Loneranger47: The degree of development of Vasiliev's leg muscles allow him as a dancer to fuel the short bursts of energy needed for jumps and turns, without losing fine control in slower movements. Genetics, nutrition and practice play a part, of course. From a muscular point of view, dancers are somewhere between gymnasts and distance runners, with specialised training for the body required for their art.
@@elizzy8754 If LoneRanger meant the comment as being derogatory (he's also around 5'10", so not the 6'2" a lot of the Bolshoi men are), I would respectfully disagree. Dance is motion and is less about how you're built than how you make your body, whatever its imperfections, move in space. I understood people dinged Osipova (why, oh why, could they not have preserved their dance partnership??) for having "short legs." But who cares once she starts moving? I'd watch a dachshund or a Welsh Corgi dance if it had her technique. Fonteyn and Fracci were also proportioned a little more like regular people than the legs for days aesthetic that's taken hold at the Bolshoi. I love Zakharova, but it's more her technique and musicality that I admire than the fact that she can stick her kneecap in her ear. (Thank you for coming to my TED Talk)
There is no dancer today with the unparalleled virtuosity of Ivan Vasiliev. His precise and extraordinary physical ability surpasses all great dancers of the past. Vasiliev, a son of a great dancer, was born to dazzle. Even when he is standing waiting for a partner finish her sequence, palpable energy emanates from him as if his body is in motion. Vasiliev's grand jetés, fouettés and pirouetes defy the laws of gravity and physics. But his deep cambrés set the standards of how to finish a dance routine. Vasiliev is simply unmatchable and purely superb.
It would be nice if his Red Square Talisman variation was included in this complication. A big dancer using up a very big stage. There's nothing quite like him, he's unique.
I thought the editing was a little strange. Most of the clips are from Flames of Paris. I have been fortunate to see him dance live three times. He is a dynamo that’s for sure.
Great compilation, Ivan Vasiliev is amazing. However it would be nice to give credit/links to the accounts that originally shared this content on youtube in the caption, as many channels that share compilations do.
I was especially curious about the one that was in slow motion, the only one I didn't recognize. It looked like he got off a third beat in that second cabriole!
@@minissa2009 Yes, that is at 2:19 and I have just re-watched it twice. IV is in practice clothes on stage somewhere. I counted three beats each time - phenomenal! Thank you for drawing my attention to this.

I don’t like those compilations with jumps which make them look like circus numbers with the audience clapping on every jump or pirouette . Are we talking about dance or monkey numbers?
I understand what you mean, but it is possible that most of these performances were for Russian audiences who are typically generous and demonstrative with their appreciation!
That’s probably Russia. Years ago my husband and I were on a flight and we landed in Paris. Everyone clapped! We were astounded and thought there must have been something wrong with the plane that we didn’t know about! Just normal in Europe. Everywhere has their own thing, Russians are very appreciative of good dancing. Truly, I think they’re the most appreciative in the world. One sided here I know but I loved his partnership with Osipova ( I know they were a couple for a while) - together they had ‘IT’ 🩰🩰👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Wonderful, thank you. I think Vasiliev is marvellous . I think he’s retired now. Wonder if all that stress injured his back. Still, he was wonderful. Especially when partnered with Osipova. They were a wonderful partnership together. 🩰🩰🩰👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Has Vasiliev ever heard of the laws of physics???? Amazing!! Wow!! What else to say? \o/
No he obviously have contract with devil 😂😂😂😂
Ivan is beautiful I love him🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

For having such enormous leg muscles he is certainly breathtakingly nimble.
It's also odd to see such a flexible back with such a strong center.
@@minissa2009 It's a lovely combination arising from genes and continuous practice, I suppose.

He really throws himself inside music, role and choreography! His dancing Thrills and moves! Unique!
Eccezionale

Ivan definitely has a flair for the dramatic and really connects with the audience. ❤❤❤
Absolutely powerful and magnificent, WOW! 👏👏👏

He's a great stand-up comédien - - and Vasiliev can do the Russian leap quite well! People admire you - - Ivan Vasiliev - - and I do too!
what is the russian leap
@@_p1ckleA Russian person leaping! It’s called “The Russian Leap”!

As breathtaking as ever. Today I am particularly noting the angle of his body in the air during double turns such as between 1:57 to 2:09.
Il mio ballerino preferito😍! E' talmente bravo, fa BENISSIMO TUTTO! Lui Osipova sono la coppia d'oro
Wonderful compilation! I love Vasiliev!

Are we calling that flying or what?
Vladimir Vasiliev ( not Valery), premier of Bolshoi Theatre has not related to Ivan Vasiliev.
