When you hitch all 3 suffolks to the plow you will have a Regal hitch!
Very good point!
It may have been a bit of a heartstopper hitting that rock, but it was also a valuable lesson for the two boys. They got a little freaked out at the beginning but came back down to earth after Jim settled them down. Runaway situations are no joke and I'm glad Jim put a stop to this potential one before it got out of hand. Goes to show what proper training and having the horses' trust can do in an iffy situation.
£uke really stepped up to the job didn't he.. when they set off he looked like a baby next to Baron but on the way back he looked like a horse that knows the job
I think that Skippy is living in a doggy paradise.
You handled that stone surprise like a pro,and stopped a run away, well done!
So sorry about your sled, Jim. You certainly showed how skilled you are when the sled pulled up that big rock. Nice control of the horses!
Baron and Duke did so well considering the unforeseen excitement. And also proves Jim’s mastery of his animals. So many new experiences for the coming year. New foal, new team, new pup. Have a great week Jim and Brenda….Come on people, hit that subscribe and like button!!!!
I enjoy their videos so much I would subscribe again. I also make a comment most of the time, I’ve heard from other creators that it makes a difference for them (I don’t know if they said that but I have heard more than one person say it). Maybe one day I’ll find out if that’s the truth but it’s not important to me, I’d probably comment anyways.
Baron and Duke look good together, can't wait to see Duke and Earl . What a team they will be. Keep up the great work it is very enjoyable to watch.
The Suffolk Punch boys did well, I was wondering at one point if they were going to 'run away', but fortunately, their breed and Jims steady hand contained the issue.
Jim sure is a good horse trainer
Beautiful team! I can't get enough of Baron. Duke look great too! 🤩 Glad no major accident happen! 🥴
Glad to see Baron got his "strut" back.
I think that little pup won the lottery when he came to live you. It’s a dogs dream to have that much of a playground.
That incident just shows how much Jim’s teams trust him and what he’s askin them to do!! They could have very easily just broke and run from that situation to try to get as far away from it as possible…. But, Jim grabbed their attention right then and their minds went right to him and what he wanted them to do! That was outstanding to see Jim!! I’m glad you decided to leave that footage in the video and show that it’s not always sinshine and Daisies when you take your teams out, and things can happen at a moments notice
You are far from mean so far from mean. Patient and equal and firm but so very far from mean 😊
Jim, Brenda, great video! Baron, Duke make a great looking team! Sorry about your scoot, I hope it can be fixed. Jim, that was some rock you hit, glade no one was hurt!! God Bless All Jim, Nova Scotia, Canada.
You mentioned Baron has lost weight, castration is a big operation and it takes a lot of time to heal, as you know.
Another week or two and he’ll start gaining weight again.
Baron and Duke look great together. They will make a great team along with Earl. Great video
Ah the three horse hitch for us to dream about.
Glad you and the boys made it through that. That could have been bad. If you hadn't managed to keep your feet and keep hold of the lines, they would have been gone. That broken shoe might have actually been a good thing, because it made it hard for them to get any speed up and run off. It is past time for a new sled. They are an amazingly good team to come back to hand after such a shock. You are really going to have something when they get a few years on them.
Sorry about the sled but thought the team handled it very well with you guidance, when you hit the rock!
Oh boy! It would have to be when Ken wasn't harnessed that the sled malfunctions! The youngsters did well and im so glad everyone is ok! Your angels are watching out for you Jim! You were conserned to watch out for the slushy sled but i thought you might have a hidden dance instructor in you when that sled jumped! Hugs to Brenda for dancing in the mud today as well! You two are amazing. ❤ I hope all gets fixed up tip top really soon!
Oh yes. Two near misses, sure glad Skip was out of the way 😮
Skippy is such a good dog. The horses make a beautiful team. With the exception of the mud, another great video.
A rancher in South Dakota I follow have a young Blue Healer which is doing an outstanding job of rounding up the black Angus they have. Its amazing how quickly animals in general tow the line.
Having not viewed, I am goi to predict, the calm of the breed will shine.
It took my adrenaline a sec to calm down also..goodness..Jim could have fallen and that sled could have run over him...THANK YOU FATHER FOR SAFETY.
My word Jim & Brenda, you are encountering adrenal increasing moments these last few days.
Some good camera work by Brenda. Most people panic when something like that happens and the camera gets pointed away from the action as the camera person gets away as well. 👍
Let's not start a trend of death-defying stunts by Jim and company. Great job boys, and girl.
Baron!!!! ❤
The boys look so good together and I’m sure Baron will bulk up and be back to his normal. Skipper seems to enjoy the run out to the woods.
Brenda you are a great photographer and Skippy is a good assistant.❤
You sure do get your exercise keeping up with them!
That was a very close call,lm just glad you and the horses are OK
Yikes! That could have gone south, the horses did good.
So Good video! Brenda did so good on that run through the farm. And Skip kept up
Wow the boys reacted so well.❤❤❤.
Very interesting watching how Jim and the horses handled hitting that rock. It looked like the horses started to bolt, but Jim, with his years of experience, kept them under control. Also, you could tell Baron and Duke were shaken-up by what had happened. Kudos to Jim, Baron and Duke! This got my heart pumping a little faster, too.
I hate the term "bolting" no one will stop a horse bolting..very rare for horse to bolt.( a horse that gets to that point of bolting is past the point of no return)...lots of run aways as in this case almost there but a kind word of reassurance is usually enough..
My goodness, Jim, you certainly did well jumping on and off the sled, and getting them under control! I was a good training experience, and the younger horse did really well!
Excellent video! Jim has spoken about "runaways" before, but I'd never seen one. Gulp! Jim's ability to control the situation is impressive. Jim is definitely the "leader"! Now, the horses know they can trust him! He calmed them down!
I do love Duke also!! And your whole fur baby family!
Yesss they are beautifull !!!
Jim, your expertise and experience sure showed in this one! It was amazing to watch you jump back on that sled and get those boys calmed down! Wow! Those guys make a great looking team. I’m sure any combination of Baron, Duke and Earl will be a beautiful matched team. Of course, I love to watch any of your horses work together. They are all incredible. I know you have to be super proud of all of them!
My dad used to tell about how on a hot day while raking hay, when he was young, the team he was driving went crazy and ran to the barn during a hail storm while he was trying to hang on. Your pup is having an adventure.
johnryder1888, ... wow! a scary scenario (but a funny one)
and yes, that Pup is a lucky pooch! 😂
Actually this video turned out to be an important instructional lesson on the unexpected things that can happen. Also, you found out that the sled had some concerning issues before you took it into an area that would have made it difficult to retrieve. Thanks for showing us the Suffolks together!
Under Jim's training and Ken's tutorage, the young horses are starting to prove themselves as sturdy, hardworking and people pleasing attitude. With this incident, Jim done well and Brenda having a very calm and steady camera work, I couldn't imagine any different what the team will do, but listen and trust Jim. Sorry the sled is shot but Im sure you can recycle some of the parts to make a new one. As long Ken is still being useful as a team for the young stock, it's a GREAT teacher to have!
Well that was a little exciting. Baron and Duke were fun to watch.
Brenda should receive the gold reward for filming you driving the sled , stay safe !!
When you hit that rock. Thought you were going for a wild ride there. Man that was one big rock. Great video.
Very interesting about the sled .hope it comes together what ever you do .
The team looks so nice together .
Thankyou for your videos .
Wow, Jim and Brenda, that Rick the sled hit was Huge. I was thankful neither you nor the horses were hurt. Hope the sled isn't to damaged.❤
They make an execellent looking team. Cant wait to see Baron and Earl together or Earl and Duke.
no one can call you mean Jim --those horses are so lucky to have you!!! ps Baron should be called Prancer - he's so lovely to watch!
Great camera work. Caught Jim’s reflexes in action 👍
I'm glad to see everything worked out okay after hitting that rock. Things could have been much worse. Jimmy did an excellent job in common them down. Love seeing skip fit in. Thanks for sharing, Jim ,Brenda.
You need a chain with snap hooks on those two upright poles on your sled to prevent you falling in front
Skippy is so cute and I think he will be a great asset to you as he grows.
Good update real time training good bad ugly situations great, as always like all equipment finite, time to repair/replace 🤔👍👀
amazing advancement on these two together...nice !
Good Boys .. for sure!
good calmness with them
as a team over that mishap...
You have incredible balance
Jim's an agile dude! Love how skillfully you found footing in a couple short steps to get off that sled. I shudder to think what would have happened if you missed your step in there. Sure do like them suffolds together... going to make another great matched team!
Jim, I am sure glad that you didn't get hurt, and I am also glad that the horses didn't run away , although they were a little rattled with the rock event. I am impressed how Skippy is doing at such a young age, and he is so good around the horses. Jim, Brenda, thank you for another great video, and I hope that the sled can be repaired without too much expenses, nor labour. Always something that needs repairs or attention on the farm.
Jim God takes care of you while you are working with your horse's. That was scary with that rock. The horse's freaked out a bit but you got them under control. Thank goodness Skippy wasn't near by as stays close to Brenda when on the trail while she films. Skippy goes close by the sled then backs up to Brenda. He is one smart dog.. God bless you Jim and Brenda 🙏
A thought about “de-icing” the sled where Jim stands to keep him from slipping: lay down a little fertilizer to melt the snow. That wouldn’t degrade the wood.
That little dog is a bunch of energy plus fun loving. Loves the exercise.
I would really appreciate you building a new sled and showing us step by step. Maybe the difference between one Horse sled and two horse sled
I think Duke did handled his first trip out with Baron rather well. The Boys really listen to Jim & THAT is a good thing. Adds Trust to the boys with Jim & hearing his reassuring voice. Skippy looks like he was ready jump on for a ride a few times. He is stickin right with ya'll..Good Boys Duke & Baron... God Bless
Wow...been waiting for this for some time..thought it would have been Duke n Earl..so lucky to have Baron with his experience so far...this is the part of training I have always loved with young horses..the putting of "polish" on them..of course now the big question is,, now they are working more n more..how long before you hog their manes?? Wow a big rock..good to see it happened with no major issues..
Sled needs a complete rebuild. They only last so long.
Good video! Love seeing the young horses working together!
How nice Baron has learned enough to start being a horse with enough experience to put with a less experienced one. Excellent they stopped so quickly after being startled. Interesting to see how you deal with calming the horses after the dose of adrenaline. Good to hear your tile work in a field is draining well. The sled looked to heave and buckle some when it hit the rock, and you are saying it isn't pulling smoothly, so repairs would not be a surprise. Thanks for explaining what work is ahead.
That worn runner shoe got ya'll in a storm. You and the horses handled it very well. Farming can be very dangerous, especially with heavy horses. I'm quite impressed with you and your crew. Hope ya'll have a safe and Merry Christmas.
Just a little excitement for your trip into the woods glad it didn't get out of control
I enjoyed today’s video very much! What a fine looking young team. As Baron gets his muscle back and Duke loses some pasture fat they will be even more closely matched! As for the sled, there is always repair work to do on a farm. The longevity of that “temporary repair” to the left runner is testament to your repair ingenuity. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Wow, that was very frightening, I’m so glad nobody was hurt. Love your long videos, can’t get enough. One of my favorite parts is when you unharness horses. I think skippy will need a bath 😊❤
So sad it wasn't a bright sunny day. Seeing their coats gleaming in the sun would have been awesome!
That was Scary! Glad that ended well!
Time for William to build a new sled
WOWSY! Such excitement! And as usual, informative and entertaining.
The Suffolks did very well in a crisis, thanks to Jim's skill. That was no "rock", it was a boulder. Good grief. Excellent filming by Brenda and that wee pooch Skip is so dear! Thanks Jim and Brenda, for a wonderful video. All best wishes for Christmas and the new year!!!
Well done JIm. and great camera work Brenda!. glad no one got hurt on that rock. and Duke could have created a lot of trouble if he didn't calm down right away. or as soon as he did. The tone in Jim's voice had a lot to do with that. They can tell if its a bad thing by the tone in his voice also. And in lieu of the repair finally giving up the ghost you got a fair amount of use out of that repair. so tis time. the good part is you are just the guy to come up with the wood to replace them runners. both literally and economically. again glad no one got hurt and thanks for sharing. ECF
Baron & Duke really make a great pair! That incident with the rock was something! Jim, you had quiet control the whole time. I could see the fear in the boys. They were ready to just start running! But, you calmed them down right away & helped them forget it happened! Wow. I was wondering if they might react at that spot on the way back, but they didn't seem to. Probably because you made it a non-event! Bummer that your sled is done! But it sounds like it was on borrowed time anyway! Skippy is part of the family!! He just followed the whole way--lots of new things to see!!! ❤ This video was really good! A real-time event & learning experience!!! Love you guys!! 🙂💕
PG here @ 3 mins. leading the horses out of the barn. Baron has been waiting for this opportunity his entire Life! The lead horse! Time to prove he is "a man." Grown up! Then with the rock Baron learning with being the eldest, a leader, there are a lot more responsibilities. It isn't just a muscle job, it also takes wisdom, and experiences like this. Baron will be glad to let Ken be the lead or eldest horse for now. Thank You for the video. I had no fear of runaway horses with Jim as the Teamster.
You really got a lot of use out of that sled sine I Watched you sister the runner!!, The team sure handled the moment of startle well!!!
Nice video as always
Nice team of nice horses
12:12 - Master Teamster !! Dang rock.....
Wow 😮 you have a lot of work to do on that sled , good luck 🍀👍 !!
I smiled when Jim said he likes a matched team. A true teamster and a lover of his horses. The boys did a great job in a scary situation. It could of been so much worse. Jim handled it so well, and jumping on and off the sled was impressive.😊
The suffolks together a beautiful and some what a rare sight so glad you have them
The youngsters are learning well. Glad you were not hurt when the runner caught that rock. Hope you won’t have too much trouble fixing the sled. 👍👍
They do look good together.
Wow! stuff happens hey? definitely a heart in the mouth moment.
I'm a little more than 1/2 way thru this and I was about to say all's well. Then that runner shoe caught that stone. What happens next is very important.
I sure am glad that you kept your feet after hitting that rock. I might have been a different story otherwise. The runner can be replaced and I am so glad that you didn't get hurt along with the horses. God bless and keep safe please. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THIS SEASON.
Nice to finally see the suffolks hooked up together🙌🏼They look really good❤. Love the way Barron prances! Just wondering if Duke might be a bit sore around the shoulders from hitting the rock…that was one heck of a jolt! One heck of large rock! Hope he isn’t. Nice videoing as usual🙌🏼
I noticed after the rock incident you didn’t need to use the whip anymore
Good boys! That was a giant rock! Glad the field tiles are doing their job😊
That puppy is so cute.
The boys handled the adventure well. ❤
Morning Jim. And brenda
Matched teams look great together. They did pretty well when you hit that rock, especially for such young fellas! Keep up the great content, God bless and merry Christmas to the Gordon family!
This was great. Boys did well! They trust you. (doggie too!!) And I guess you have to build a brand new sled.
