very true indeed i agree. in malaysia, as malaysian, we stay unique with our own heritage, culture, religion but we are integrated well harmonies and united.. thats what we called malaysian..
in the 60's and 70's there are a lot of british teacher were sent to Malaysia to teach, my mom's english teacher was a british women, there were also a lot of English Nuns during that time.
Yup, we are like that. She 's like my sister in law. She's british. 😊 She lived in Malaysia until she passed on fews years back. She was 70. Good person.
CiP CiP, thank you for suggesting this video. Thank you Miles & Phezz for your reaction. Yes, the message behind this video truly a testament of what diversity is all about. We MUST preserve this uniqueness that can only be understood by people who love unity, peace and harmony! Stay safe everyone and God bless!
The scene shown was in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s where there were still many teachers from England came to Malaya (now Malaysia) to teach English Language, Science and Technical in selected schools and polytechnics. In the early 1970’s there were many American teachers under the program of American Peace Corps came Malaysia to teach in selected schools.

A decade ago when I returned home, the KLIA (airport) taxi diver--an elderly Malay gentelman--asked where I'd come from and I said, "the US," and he dialed the station that played Metallica's Enter Sandman. He probably found the song awful, but damn, I felt welcomed.
It's not surprising that many Malays have British ancestors because Malaya was colonised by the British for more than 100+ years. There are many Malay accent words originally adapted from English words, for e.g. "book-ku" soon became "buku" in Malay.. "school-lah" soon became "sekolah".. "curry puff" became "karipap" and many more
I think this kind of video, based on someone's real experiences, highlights how much Westerners (not all) would like to experience that sense of "homecoming" or belonging. Genetically, many people's ancestors from America (and Australia) often come from far off lands; now living in a different land (which is still home or where we were born) but these new "lands" lack that sense of long time belonging. We are fundamentally without roots. Whether our distant relatives came because of war, turmoil, or greater opportunities, there's still that lack; a primal sense of connection is missing.
You guys most welcome to Malaysia. Malaysia is family country. You will love us. Huhuhu... Thank you for doing reaction for Malaysia culture. Thank you again. Love from Malaysia.
When u stop being against something new and unusual to ur world.... u learn n grow and discover every single person, family, culture has something to offer, something to teach. America is filled with hatred for its fellow man, its lost the ability to accept without judgement.
In the early days we had many teachers, officers and then expats from the UK mainly from South of England which influenced our English came here for a short stint but many stayed put. We had a long history 200+ years of colonialism from Siam, Portuguese, Dutch, British and last Japan but we don’t hate. It’s integrated into our harmonised plural multiculturalism. We had many teachers from US in late 90s through Peace Corp. Malaysia is truly Asia truly unique.
Still remember my old friend Rob N TC, typical American... first they said this country is funny... after a year... they going back to America... sure that old guy miss Malaysia
