I dont expect a lot of non K-pop fans to really gasp how important GD is to the whole hip hop/pop scene in Korea. He’s much loved for many reasons, his unique rap tone, his quirky style, his shy personality but bigger than life onstage persona, keeping his integrity and sanity despite haters and Korean authorities trying to drag his name through the mud, his passion for his music and artistry, gosh the list goes on. Even after listening to more of his music you might still not get it entirely.
I only recently started delving into Sth Korean music in particular hip hop and K-pop and of course I’ve listened to G-dragon. He’s hit and miss for me in terms of his music but he’s such a nice human being period. I recently learned he suffered mental health issues and was mercilessly hounded by anyone and everyone, fans, haters, the media….when he stopped his music career to serve in the military, other members of his unit constantly watched his every move, they even spied on him as he showered and made sketches of his (entire) body to send to their girlfriends/sisters/the media etc, his fame and people’s obsession with him was disgustingly damaging to his health and then when the army tried to protect his privacy and gave him seperate quarters a lot of the soldiers and public turned on him for getting “preferential treatment”. I actually like this song more knowing the struggles he’s faced. The guy overcame years of depression, intense public scrutiny and the ugly side to fame and now feels like he’s got back to a place of having power over his own life and choices. What a champion for coming back to music and still being true to himself.

The list of accomplishments and ways this man has revolutionized the kpop world is LONG. Im sure you will see a comment explain it soon 😂, but to put it simple, every single idol group out today can claim this man right here G-Dragon as THEIR IDOL.

In South Korea....G-Dragon aka Kwon Jiyong is the hands down King of Kpop. He is a trend setter in all aspects of music, fashion, or whatever he touches in life or goes. He moves the needle. He is a living legend and still killing it at an elite level and absolutely NOBODY on his level. As Kpop is now featuring 5th generation singers & groups....G-Dragon is from the 2nd generation which he mentioned as himself as a limited edition. There is ONLY 1 him and he is him. He was born in 1988 as you say the #88. He started his music career at the age 8. From a group band name BigBang which you should definitely check out. BigBang = Bang Bang Bang G-Dragon Solo = Michigo & others have mentioned "Crayon" There a couple songs to start with. G-Dragon is a very intelligent lyricist and this man does not play. People don't get how big he is, he speech, even the way he walks, can affect the whole of South Korea, not just in the entertainment scene but even politics affected by G Dragon, in Korea as the whole north n south... He's influences in Korea are literally bigger than Michael Jackson in America. He speech, talk, manners, affect all other industries like the business industry, tourism, technology, education, real estate, law, even medicine, that's how big he is .... This man is not just about money n stock prices, he himself are just that important
