So that muscles can absorb the maximum impact and support the shin bone. Focus on strengthening the muscles like Calf muscles, Thigh muscles & muscles around the hip region before starting to run. ( strengthening bone with calcium supplements is a very long process but worth a try) 2. Get a good running shoes with soft and big sole/ bottom. So that shoes can absorb the impact while running and hence putting less stress on the bone. 3. Don't forget to warm-up and stretch before running & do warm down stretches after running. Following these helped me to avoid shin splints.
