Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey when he was with wings. "Live a little, be a gypsy, get around, get your feet up off the ground, live a little, get around". that lyric is all kinds of highs and lows and I know I can't sing it for all the gold in the world.
You could make one on Phil collins, his singing on songs like "sussidio", "I don't care anymore" or the 1987 Wembley version of "mama" is crazy enough to deserve a video! :)
Yes, so glad someone mentioned this! I love how his voice gradually transitions to a growl when he sings "awake" in the line "Smiles awake you when you rise." Then he goes back to a soft and sweet tone by the time he sings "rise." It is so damn good. It's "raise the hairs on the back of your neck" good.
I've always thought that McCartney had more incredible overall talent musically than anyone in history but I don't think his voice is nearly as good as it was even 15 or 20 years ago.
I truly think he's the best vocalist in popular music history. He had perfect and absolute control of his "main" voice, and he was also able to morph the way he sang and sound like someone else if he needed it for creative effect or to simply 'glue' the other beatles' voices together, since the other two had such distinct (and non versatile) voices. He also sounds incredibly meticulous in every song he sang in, to a point in which theres very few examples in which you can say he made the wrong call. This guy put thought into every single thing he did, and still managed to make it look efortless.
Yeah man, I thought the same thing watching Get Back the last few days. On the song of the same name, he almost sounds like he's impersonating somebody else, but it still sounds sooooo good
I agree...ive been a fan since hearing his voice on the radio in the mid 70s with wings when I was an infant...obviously his beatles stuff is off the charts, but to me his wings over America singing is just incredible

I've said it for years and most people look at me like I'm crazy because they've never really thought about it - but apart from Freddie Mercury, who I think had more control and vibrato in his clear upper range, Paul McCartney was the greatest rock vocalist in history. There are a lot of people who could come close to what they could do, but in terms of sheer range and style-switching - and excelling at every style - those two just can't be touched. McCartney has NEVER gotten the respect as a singer that he deserves, because the talk is often about his songwriting alone - but the guy was just a vocal BEAST. It's just ridiculous what he could do with his voice. Even in the "Get Back" documentary, when he's just playing around, you can see him doing things most singers simply can't even come close to doing.

I’d add Chris Cornell to the list too. John Lennon also had a very unique and great rock voice, and I think McCartney sometimes gets overlooked. McCartney does have one of the best voices in the genres, and I’d put him easily in the same league as the other great singers. One of the many attributes the Beatles possessed was the freakishness of two great vocalist in the same group. A strong argument could be made for three great singers. George was certainly an X-factor.
Some additional notes to further appreciate his voice; that I didn't include on the video: ✪ Spot number 2 was LIVE, so no chances for a second take! Just makes the vocal line even harder and goes to show Paul's great technique and its live consistency. ✪ Spot number 0 is probably sung through M0 or vocal fry/growl mechanism, which leads us to conclude that Paul explored (literally) every vocal register and excels at it
@@continentalgin I would think it’s a combination of him abusing the hell out of his poor vocal chords and all those years of having to strain his voice so he can be heard during Beatle concerts
His recent (last two decades) performances of ‘My Love’ are crazy. Mid-concert, a guy in his sixties/seventies switching registers so precisely (for a vocal line that wasn’t even in the original song no less) has my jaw on the floor. Have you seen him live? He doesn’t drink ANY water and shows are 3 hours
@@walrusgumboot And he keeps right on while the rest of the band takes a break in the middle of the show. (This is consistent with what the members of Wings reported when they toured in the Seventies; namely, that he never had to go to the loo and would stay on the bus when they made a rest stop. His bladder must be as amazing as his throat.)
Just by his voice alone, you can easily disprove the Faul conspiracy. No other person can exactly match the insane range, timbre, and control that Paul has
Right? Finding a lookalike for one of the greatest bass players, or songwriters, or singers of the 20th Century would be hard enough, but finding someone else who was all three at the same time? Impossible.
I read somewhere that George Martin said Paul's voice on Wanderlust was superb. Not extreme or performatic, but clear and with the right timbre. Love that song
Even his normal speaking is affected. My own voice was "broadcast quality" at one point, but now I sound like your prototype "geezer" with a raspy growl due to an exhausted larynx. I didn't demand even 1/3rd of what Paul used in his career. One aspect of Paul's career that he can take great pride in is that he never had to "cancel" or "postpone" a show even though his concerts lasted nearly 3 hours. Some singers, especially women who sing in the higher pitch, are known to say "I can't go on tonight." It's not primarily that they are divas or moody, it some times is easily explained that their voice is shot and their throat is sore. It's a lot of work and stress on the voice that professional singers go through. I marveled that guys like B.B. King could be out on the road 250 nights a year both playing and singing. Yet, working musicians figure that is part of the deal if you haven chosen to "sing for your supper" to make a living.
Great video! There’s so many examples of McCartney delivering insane vocals. I love that he recorded Yesterday on the same day after recording I’m Down. How he sings yesterday so cleanly after his performance of I’m Down is mind boggling
Thank you for sharing what most fans don't realize about voice ranges. It speaks volumns about Paul's work ethic, putting every piece of himself on the table for the sake of the art.
When you realize that "You Never Give Me Your Money" is all Paul. At one point, he's the sweet gentle man then the next song is like a totally different man but you still recognize it's Paul. No wonder he was called a man of a thousand voice
I never realized how good at singing Paul was until this video. Also, could you do Thom Yorke eventually, he’s probably my favorite vocalist so it would be really cool
Only 3 min? This video diserves at least an hour. Paul Mccartney's voice has to be studied. That man has so many voices. You can hear it on every record he's ever made.
What so cool is you can hear him do crazy powerful notes as late as albums from 2007, or arguably even 2020's McCartney III. I think the Girl Is Mine one was pitched digitally a bit.
In Oh! Darling he hits an even higher note than what you mentioned. The second time he sings “When you told me” it is followed by “Woo Woo” which is so high I can’t reach it anymore and I sang 2nd Soprano. He is truly amazing!!
First time watcher. Terrific video. I appreciate how you are respectful of my time, this is excellent solid and interesting content about Mr. McCartney told in just over 3 minutes. Your point was excellently made in detail. I got more info in 3 minutes than on most 20 minute videos. Subscribed.

The song "Hey Jude"....the single I bought as a 9 year old kid in 1969....amazed me then,...and still does....the range (not necessarily in notes, but in emotion) displayed from the lush and smoothly delivered melodic beginnings to the controlled hysteria at the end,...makes it, for me, the Greatest Song by the Beatles, by far.....Paul was the real Heart and Soul of the Beatles.
thank you for this video! Paul's voice is truly a masterpiece that is soooo underrated!! p.s. another one crazy line is in the end of 'Let me roll it' (4:25). i was really shocked when i found out that is FREAKING PAUL'S VOICE NOT THE SPECIAL DEVICE idk how to call it lol
Paul's vocals on oh darling were not only insanely good but revolutionary!! he completely changed the idea of what rock n roll singing could be and although Freddy Mercury is the best rock singer of all times , Paul is definitely the most influential one
The first time he sang 'Yesterday' live in 1964 was utterly amazing. He held his voice while he was crying. Not a single waver anywhere. It's just pure magic how a human can possibly hold their voice, not miss a single key, not waver the slightest bit...I'm sad that wasn't mentioned, but I also know that it's not "crazy" like the ones you did mentioned.
This was a great video- seeing an analysis of Paul’s range isn’t something I’ve seen before- he’s amazing. If you haven’t looked at Mike Patton check him out too. Cheers!

We're so blessed for living in the same time period with him, a truly legend who was gifted with a magnific voice. Also, his pasion for the music is so evident so I can't find reasons why he always tries to do his best in whatever he does. Long live to the legend, long live to his legacy! Ps. a kind invitation for all The Beatles fans who just know him for his contributions like a beatle. His solo career has a lot of treasures, I hope you can give a chance, you won't be disapointed.
Hello! I loved your video, can't find many detailed reviews of Paul's vocals and yours is great. Can you tell me what's the technique that he uses on THAT part of Oh Darling and how to do it? Same goes with I've got a feeling. It'd help me a lot.
It’s hard to say if we can’t look inside the singers throat, but it’s my firm belief you can achieve the tone of Oh Darling's C5/D5s through mixed voice (M2) + rasp. This way we wouldn’t destroy our voices… since Paul always had great vocal health, I’ll assume this was his technique too. Of course I can’t know. If you need more help or wqnt to talk more look me up on Instagram :) @marcajax. I love the topic of mixed voice
Maybe not the most difficult song to sing, but his vocals on the demo version of "Here There And Everywhere" are utterly gorgeous.

What I love about his vocals is not any of that, or his “heart”, either. It’s that he’s a virtuoso vocalist with several distinct voices and an incredible level of creativity
Fab Four is cool, but have you ever heard of the Drab Four? Please do Peter Steele of Type O Negative's craziest vocal lines. I'm sure there will be more crazy low register vocals than anyone else, ever.
he definitely scratched up his voice over time with his impressive singing it's remarkable it's even in the good condition it is at his age, especially with smoking in early years and such
I remember reading that Paul's Father played piano, & at family gatherings, everyone would sing & play. So he was raised singing. I'm sure he's explored almost every aspect of vocals just from his time in professional singing... I like Paul's voice, but prefer John Lennon's
I like John Lennon's voice also...but it's different...but also great. Put Mac and Lennon together to harmonize and try to sing songs like "If I Fell" , "This Boy", "Words of Love", "Because"...Great!!!
@@artguti1551 totally agree! I love "If I fell" especially. Maybe bc John Lennon's voice is more dominant. One of the many attributes the Beatles possessed was the freakishness of two great vocalist in the same group. A strong argument could be made for three great singers. George was certainly an X-factor.
Some additional notes to further appreciate his voice; that I didn't include on the video:
✪ Spot number 2 was LIVE, so no chances for a second take! Just makes the vocal line even harder and goes to show Paul's great technique and its live consistency.
✪ Spot number 0 is probably sung through M0 or vocal fry/growl mechanism, which leads us to conclude that Paul explored (literally) every vocal register and excels at it
He cannot be that talented, it's just don't fair 😅
But was it abusing his vocal chords responsible for the present condition of his voice, pretty bad, or is it simply old age?
I’m a relatively new fan of Paul, but the song “oh woman, oh why” impresses me more than anything I’ve heard by him. It’s amazing
Just by his voice alone, you can easily disprove the Faul conspiracy. No other person can exactly match the insane range, timbre, and control that Paul has
Can't believe that people still believe in that conspiracy
Funny, because the people who do believe in this conspiracy NEVER listens to Paul's solo work.
He is beyond words when it comes to explaining his talent
Paul is a beast! Not only is he probably the best songwriter of the past century but he also amazes with his vocal and instrument skills.
Is Paul even serious man? This is crazy.
He certainly was versatile with a huge range. His pipes are shot these days, but he isn't a young man any more. Thanks, Paul.
Terribly sad but true, and I say that as a loyal lifelong fan.
Great video! There’s so many examples of McCartney delivering insane vocals.
I love that he recorded Yesterday on the same day after recording I’m Down. How he sings yesterday so cleanly after his performance of I’m Down is mind boggling
his high backing vocals on Blue Jay way are pretty fantastic as well, always loved his part on that song.
Paul is definitely underrated as a singer.
Underrated ?
@@eduardomota2429 Yeah like Jimi Hendrix, who is definitely also terribly underrated as a guitar player, haha!
@@pimfeijen8203Yes,, hahaha
paul and underrated in the same verse. What a stupid thing to say.
Like no other...truly amazing the range he had...class all his own.
Thank you for sharing what most fans don't realize about voice ranges. It speaks volumns about Paul's work ethic, putting every piece of himself on the table for the sake of the art.
The best singer and songwriter of all the times. His voice is a present for us.
Well as one man said "He's the Man of a thousand voices"
When you realize that "You Never Give Me Your Money" is all Paul. At one point, he's the sweet gentle man then the next song is like a totally different man but you still recognize it's Paul. No wonder he was called a man of a thousand voice
Amazing Sir McCartney.!
Paul dejaba todo en sus canciones.
Genial....Gracias por el Video.
And I thought I couldn't be more amazed at Paul than what I am now. A true GOAT!
Subscribed.
Thank you so much for your comment. I always try to keep my videos to the point as I used to get really irritated, as a viewer, with those videos who didn’t! Sort of took my stance against it. Glad it’s appreciated. Take care friend.
Paul is so full of talent its terrifying
The song "Hey Jude"....the single I bought as a 9 year old kid in 1969....amazed me then,...and still does....the range (not necessarily in notes, but in emotion) displayed from the lush and smoothly delivered melodic beginnings to the controlled hysteria at the end,...makes it, for me, the Greatest Song by the Beatles, by far.....Paul was the real Heart and Soul of the Beatles.
The last note of the buildup before the da-da-da's is an F5, so the range in notes of Hey Jude is pretty impressive too.
@@davidjordan2336 what's da da da? I know I'm missing.
Paul is a fantastic singer !!
thank you for this video!
He was the greatest male vocalist ever
Paul's vocals on oh darling were not only insanely good but revolutionary!!
he completely changed the idea of what rock n roll singing could be
and although Freddy Mercury is the best rock singer of all times , Paul is definitely the most influential one
Oh Darling has always fascinated me. Such a crazy song
He wasn't crying, it was sweat...
@@StevenTwoTwo Really? It looked like tears to me.
Oh, man. Thanks so much for this. Excellent work.
I’m so glad you liked it!! Thank you
I was shocked when I learnt that in "We All Stand Together" Paul sings all the parts, including the frogs and the queen fish!
And that high tenor "A" that peaks out "Silly Love Songs" [love isn't silly at AAAAAALLL!]. I have to practice it in B-flat.
Monkberry Moon Delight is the best example IMO
This was a great video- seeing an analysis of Paul’s range isn’t something I’ve seen before- he’s amazing. If you haven’t looked at Mike Patton check him out too. Cheers!
Really great video, Paul is for sure one of my favourites singers
3:05 I cut this piece out once and listened to it hundreds of times over and over ... it still arouses emotions in me as if hearing it for the first time..
Could you tell me what that song's name is?
I'd appreciate it a bunch :)
@@juanlanda5797 It's "My love". And this one is from Good Evening NYC concert.
Love this format, very interesting. Quite short though, I'd happily watched if it was a lot longer
You forget the most extraordinary demonstration of Paul's vocal ability..
-Helter Skelter-
There are tons of examples of his amazing voice.
Skelter
My favorite songwriter and vocalist of all time.
The guy is a freak !! So much talent OMG.
Paul tinha muitos recursos vocais. Um cantor extraordinário.
Can't believe Monkberry Moon Delight didn't make it here. Vocals on that track are INSANE (in the best way).
Paul seems to never fail me with interest in his vocal and bass lines musically
People haven't realized but Paul had one of the greatest range/voice in history.
Glad to see that Paul McCartney is finally getting his credit as a vocalist. It's his songwriting that usually gets all the attention.
My favourite Paul’s vocal line is in I’ve got a feeling, he did such an amazing work with is voice in that song
Oh Darling was the first song I thought of. Then Helter Skelter with that first “SEE YOU AGAAAAAAAIN!”
@@CrazySinging You're amazing! Thank you very much!
Great channel! Love Paul!
Wow, guy is a beast. Really nice! Man, you gotta do Fabio Lione, he has some real crazy vocals
Good suggestion. He is a monster
How can he do this! It's amazing!
Maybe not the most difficult song to sing, but his vocals on the demo version of "Here There And Everywhere" are utterly gorgeous.
Hey :) Very nice video ! Paul McCartney is one of the most talented artists of modern times. He's also a workaholic and I like to think it is possible to achieve certain things with a looot of work. Of course, he also has an exceptionnal vocal tone.
The insane thing about Paul McCartney is how well his vocal cords lasted and after screaming so much in his songs.
look at Sia, ruined her voice with bad technique and yet some people think it sounds good - she's broken and so young.
Heck yeah Paul!
If I had to rank Paul’s Greatest Vocals…
10. Helter Sketer
9. Let It Be
8. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely…
7. Maybe I’m Amazed
6. Oh Woman Oh Why
5. She’s Leaving Home
4. Hey Jude
3. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End
2. Monkberry Moon Delight
1. Oh Darling
Thank you for making this video. Great stuff. 🙏
Holy crap 🤣 How Paul just freaking how 🤣 My guy be a literal alien istg 🤣
What about "The Back Seat of my Car"? from the Ram album. There he does both ends of the range.
paul was the best and most versatile voice in the beatles....
Wow,,,thats one of the things that made the Beatles so wonderful!! ✌️♥️
Do one of these for Brian or Carl Wilson.
What I love about his vocals is not any of that, or his “heart”, either. It’s that he’s a virtuoso vocalist with several distinct voices and an incredible level of creativity
The A1 is madness.
Hi Marc ! I am an old Beatles fan and musicologist and i appreciate your videos.
Wow I’m so glad friend! I made a new one on Paul too. And Lennon
Fab Four is cool, but have you ever heard of the Drab Four? Please do Peter Steele of Type O Negative's craziest vocal lines. I'm sure there will be more crazy low register vocals than anyone else, ever.
he definitely scratched up his voice over time with his impressive singing
it's remarkable it's even in the good condition it is at his age, especially with smoking in early years and such
"Oh, yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhh" From 'Soily' in Rockshow concert video.
This was super knteresting! Paul is fantastic!!!
I always liked Paul's melisma background vocal parts on Rain
Disappointed that “Beware My Love” isn’t here, but this still a rad analysis. Paul’s pipes are one of a kind.
It’s not sustained, but I wonder where the third “NO” ranks (from the studio version vocal intro, I.e., “Whoah Whoah Whoah, no no NO!!”)
In "Oh! Darling", I think it's wonderful that were blown by Paul's work.
Their voices just had that perfect meld which complimented each other and resulted in amazing music. The closest I've heard to that is Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. They all are gifted singers individually, but as a duo, they're untouchable! With the exception of Layne. I could listen to him 24/7 and never get bored.lol
