I was a resident at hillcrest from 1999-2004 when i was there we took the tunnels then eventually we went to above ground line movements. I will never forget hillcrest.
@@oregonfreedom8984 wow, I guess I missed exploring & filming it. At least I got to go to Sedro Wooley, Wa. and walk around the Northern State Asylum and film.
I graduated from Robert Farrel in 2001. I don't know why they got shut down. I don't remember too much about the place but it does look ALOT different. I really hope they don't tear down the history that the building has. That is something you can never replace. I don't remember there being bars either.
They tore down nearly all of Fairview (the laundry building will be kept and repurposed with the same old style look, I met the owner and he told me) I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of most of Hillcrest too :(
Those buildings look interesting. It seems like this place is heavily guarded now for 24/7. I've been told that there has been multiple break-ins recently in the past few days, I think. Last night, apparently a group of people broke in in one of the buildings. About 20 police cars showed up on the property and arrested them at the end. It's seriously sad that there are some people who don't show respect to abandoned places nowadays.
I went there as a kid with my mom and siblings to visit my older brother. Pizza and board games is what would distract us in such a place. I had no idea as a kid. My brother was bad tho. Now serving time again in a Oregon prison. Once institutionalized always institutionalized. At least for a long period of time. Crazy stuff.
I was incarcerated here when I was a youth on an intake unit. Personal opinion due to the abuse, assault, and corruption, it needs to be torn down and buried.
This place was also a school for unwed mothers. There is a lot lot lot of history. They should not demolish it but also should do a dig there... I bet they would be interested to see the finds. The tunnel underneath that connected to the oregon state mental hospital was in bad shape 20 years ago I wonder if it's still intact. Even if it is the steel doors are likely impenetrable
This is looks a lot different from the outside looking in! I was there for a few years between 2009-12 Omega Unit! It was chill not as crazy as they make it seem!
I was out here today but wasn't sure about venturing onto the property because I wasn't sure how well it was monitored. Did you have any problems with security?
I was there in 2009 to 2010. That place was hell. The violent nature I learned, the ability to fight, the violence.. it all came from there. And it was mostly the cops. It's not the building that was the issue, it was the staff. That's why it closed.
@@oregonfreedom8984 I heard security and someone else is supposed to be guarding this site. I got questioned for it on what was I doing. I told them I only came here for pictures and they understood. Unfortunately, they escorted me out of the property and I asked them if I could have permission to check it out. He then said I'll have to contact some owners online. I couldn't find any more info.
@@oregonfreedom8984 first off, there were no bars. it wasn't a prison. sure, we were confined within the dorms, but that's because the doors were locked.
Former home to Courtney Love. Salem, the Capital of Oregon, is one of the most depressing cities I’ve ever been to.
Yuppp
Thanks. My hometown is far from something to be proud of ...
Can you say why?

I never got to use the tunnels, all aboveground, hands folded line movements.
I was there 2000-2001.. only went in the tunnels a couple times. Gotta love asbestos.
I’m getting access to go inside and explore next week. Can’t wait.
I’m jealous I want to go lol. How can I get permission to go?
Awesome’ 🙂👍
How did you get permission into this place? I was thinking about get permission to go in as well!
How did you get permission please tell us 😭😭😭
We just went there today. It’s a creepy place for sure. Like Fairview Training Center up the road, this place needs to be preserved.
I’m still so sad they took down Fairview!
