I bought this guitar in 2017 and it's even better than described here! These pickups are like nothing you've ever heard on any other Gretsch. Sustain that lasts forever too!
I finally got to see The Cult live in Prague from the 2nd row two months ago after being a fan for decades. Billy and the band killed it! I couldn't believe how good Ian's voice is still. Thank you for the guitar pick Billy and a great night of rock n roll!
chello70 he lead the charge in turning Brit Pop guitar into metal. Turning ordinary guitar pop chords into bone crushing riffs. Are The Cult the forerunners of grunge?
Listen to the Cult song 'Soldier Blue' from the album Sonic Temple, there's a short section of power chords right before the guitar solo. Bob Rock's producing + Billy Duffy on a Gretsch, it's a really amazing, HUGE sound. Billy took the Gretsch sound a lot further than anyone in rock/alternative/metal did. He has yet to be recognised for it.
The back & forth from color to black & white extracts from the message and is lame. It would probably be a good idea if the MC/host(ess) of this video knew what products the manufacturer (Gretsch) actually produced.
Everyone hears about Fender, Gibson, Pearl and Ludwig for electric guitars and drums, but Gretsch has been making fantastic guitars and drums for a very long time. I'm not a drummer, but my two Gretsch guitars have a unique, fantastic sound and are so playable. You chose well Shanda. White Falcons of any variant are fine guitars. Not just sexy, but they purr and they roar. Hotter pickups can change the tone some, so the old school, lower output isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you want to drive distortion you need a bit more output get get much more from it.
Im sure Malcolm would have played it more, if it wasn't bigger than him 😅 Billy looks great with it!!! Saw the Cult open for Ozzy in "89. Orlando, great show!!! 🤘
Ha, my b'day is June, 29th. I share a b'day with Gretsch!EDIT: there's a Firebird behind Billy. A White Falcon and a Firebird V through a Mesa is all I need. Now, I just need a Billy Duffy White Falcon!
I think at 0:44, Billy is thinking, "Either both of these people really like guns, or she's subtly insulting him for having tons of guns here because HE subtly insulted her for not knowing that Gretsch makes drums. Either way, I wanna get outta the middle of this."
ever time I'm in the. music store about 20 miles from me I pick one up and just dream about owning one in sunset orange but even the Korean ones are out of reach. Mr Gretsch please see. make these affordable ??????
How unfortunate they gave the broad a quality mic, and Duffy gets a god damn fisher price mic. I want to listen to the guitar player, not some talking head say "Yeah" "Uh, huh" to every sentence. Terrible interview.
All semi-acoustic guitars give feedback, it's an inherent design. The closer you get to the amps the more resonant feedback you get! It actually takes more than just learning some notes to play one of these monsters but jesus do they deliver!!!!!
All big hollow bodies have that issue. That's the main thing Billy is talking about in regards to the Falcon being a beast to handle. A man's guitar. Nugent plays a Gibson Byrdland, infamous for their feedback when played like he does. To be right on the edge of controlling it is awesome haha.
I think John Lennon also admired and played gretsches. Didn't he sing a song, "magine that Gretsch made an orange falcon"? Whatever the lyrics, it was some contorted commy balad that conjures up confusing ideas that communism would fill the highways with more than just black or white automobiles. I've never been to England, but I can imagine how horrible it is there if that's the only 2 colors autos come in. I think before the Beatles, everything was in black and white. Even in an early photo of the Beatles, they were too. I'm glad that all changed, except for the Gretsch Falcons.
Oh dear. Yet he lives in LA. One of the most violent cities in the US. But if you have the security that he does around you perhaps it's easy to be "uncomfortable" with firearms LOL. It's a big world. Lots of places to live. Go ahead. Move. Make my day haha.
The US ones are priced competitively with Gibson, the Electromatic collection is very reasonable and the Japanese ones are not much either. Actually they are the opposite to over priced really.
Dunno where you have been looking but Guitar Village and GAK have the Falcon at £2500 competitive with Gibsons and PRS'. The Electromatic versions are under £1k these are aimed at the more budget market. I think the £8k-£10 is for vintage instruments.
I can tolerate her . . . and always a treat to hear Billy Duffy talkin about his gear . . . but seriously Fred have you looked in the mirror lately . . . GET A FREAKIN' HAIRCUT you look ridiculous for a guy in his 70's. YIKES!!!!!
Billy Duffy rocks. Hugely underrated guitarist
Very True!!!
It’s always great to see Billy. Such a classy gent and a great musician.
I bought this guitar in 2017 and it's even better than described here! These pickups are like nothing you've ever heard on any other Gretsch. Sustain that lasts forever too!
I own three Gretsch guitars and I love everyone of them. You can't go wrong with a Gretsch.
Billy Duffy,a real gunslinger of a guitarist!

He wasn't actually a part of SDC, he and Astbury began as Death Cult, but yeah gotta love his legendary guitar work for sure.
No you didnt
Billy Duffy wasn't with Southern Death Cult.
I finally got to see The Cult live in Prague from the 2nd row two months ago after being a fan for decades. Billy and the band killed it! I couldn't believe how good Ian's voice is still. Thank you for the guitar pick Billy and a great night of rock n roll!
It does not get much better than this, two guitar legends in one place, love this.
I'll be at The Cult show on November 20th in Phoenix! 😁
This is great Love Billy and The Cult
I love that beautiful sound of the Gretch
Awesome clip, thanks Billy! Now I want one of your sig guitars!
Love this guitar. I wish I could get one.
Billy is way too humble. He deserves the kudos.
Underrated Underdog Underground LEGEND.
chello70 he lead the charge in turning Brit Pop guitar into metal. Turning ordinary guitar pop chords into bone crushing riffs. Are The Cult the forerunners of grunge?
great interview and and interviewer
Billy and the GWF are legend together

And they put 'The Cure' in the rock& roll hall of fame?
Sea and Sky is a great Cult song which shows off the potentialities of the Gretsch!
Guitars and Guns , my kind of store!
Just purchased a gretsch!! Now the sonic temple pose !!!
Sweet salvation at that sanctuary
BD is as relevant today as ever. How many guitarists can say that from his era?
So amazing and beautifully crafted guitars hang on her walls collecting dust and nobody can play them (least of all her clearly); that's nice...
Lol nothing but the bussiness, not the art/craft :-) to each his/her own
I had a duo jet, $2500.00 when I bought it. It was so beautiful I polished it all the time instead of playing it! LOL
Billy Duffy and Neil Young- two of the coolest Gtretsch Falcon playes. There is a lot more.........
Very Nice!
Woof!
Billy is such a cool and humble dude!
Dude is a legend. Acts like a regular guy...always deferential to others etc..love the guys playing and love his personality
Sweet Billy
❤
I cannot count on two hands how many times I've heard Billy saying the whole "reverse engineered" stuff
The back & forth from color to black & white extracts from the message and is lame. It would probably be a good idea if the MC/host(ess) of this video knew what products the manufacturer (Gretsch) actually produced.
Rock on billy

The power of these pickups are amazing. Seymour Duncan did a perfect job designing these!
Im sure Malcolm would have played it more, if it wasn't bigger than him 😅
Billy looks great with it!!!
Saw the Cult open for Ozzy in "89.
Orlando, great show!!! 🤘
Billy is cool but Fred is very coooool!
Nice guitar. ...would love one but alas i couldn't afford one

Right
ever time I'm in the. music store about 20 miles from me I pick one up and just dream about owning one in sunset orange but even the Korean ones are out of reach. Mr Gretsch please see. make these affordable ??????

Not sure if you read this Billy but did you ever have feedback issues?
He did, and stuffed the body with foam and or t shirts.
All semi-acoustic guitars give feedback, it's an inherent design. The closer you get to the amps the more resonant feedback you get! It actually takes more than just learning some notes to play one of these monsters but jesus do they deliver!!!!!

Don't believe him .. Duffy came up on the tiles in Manchester .. he's a hard lad.
do you get the feeling that Fred on the right there isn’t really “with it”? strange answers!
What the heck is she talking about guns for?
If there one person that shouldn’t of done this interview it’s her
Gretsch guitars are made to be played not sitting around collecting dust.
I agree.
I love my Gretsch Snow Whitecrest, no other guitar has that sound or tone.
billy duffy and a lespaul,, does ir for me.
Why not just say you were in T.O.H. ?
Shandra, it is a shame to hang that guitar on a wall just sitting there doing nothing, it was built to be played
Both gentlemen are going to look lovely in her home?
Thats alot of healthy lookin woman!!
She's hot!
Um, has Billy never heard of Poison Ivy? Probably brought more people to Gretsch than anyone. “Man’s guitar” pffft.
I think John Lennon also admired and played gretsches. Didn't he sing a song, "magine that Gretsch made an orange falcon"? No idea Beckham played in the cult
a mans guitar. You want to check out Nat Allison
my theory is he played one to distract from his massive cranium ;^)
Gretsch Guitarrs, Drums...and Guns? I know this is how things are done in America, but...I'm out.
pussy
hey, it's reno. what else is there to do there besides gamble? you go boonie busting and you plink guns.
You have no idea "how things are done" in America...Yeah good, stay out.
Hans Grueber how did you come back? I watched you fall to a splat ;^)
Grow a pair.
I bet she plays a mean skin flute!!!!!!!!
You could tell how uncomfortable Billy Duffy was when she mentioned the ‘guns’. Poor guy, being surrounded by idiots.
feck off pole smoker
Oh dear. Yet he lives in LA. One of the most violent cities in the US. But if you have the security that he does around you perhaps it's easy to be "uncomfortable" with firearms LOL. It's a big world. Lots of places to live. Go ahead. Move. Make my day haha.
This is so rock and roll,
lol, cringe
aren't most gretsch guitars overpriced? no counting for struggling musicians.
The US ones are priced competitively with Gibson, the Electromatic collection is very reasonable and the Japanese ones are not much either. Actually they are the opposite to over priced really.
Djarra, thanks for responding to my post I appreciate it. :)

In comparison to similar guitar types they're actually a bargain!
So way over priced
I can tolerate her . . . and always a treat to hear Billy Duffy talkin about his gear . . . but seriously Fred have you looked in the mirror lately . . . GET A FREAKIN' HAIRCUT you look ridiculous for a guy in his 70's. YIKES!!!!!
