About the album:
Joe Satriani’s 16th studio album is What Happens Next, a high-energy album that takes the legendary guitarist’s skills to exciting new heights.
The new instrumental album features a power trio of Satriani on guitar along with two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees: Deep Purple/Black Country Communion bassist Glenn Hughes and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, the latter reuniting with Satriani for the first time since their work in the supergroup Chickenfoot with former Van Halen vocalist and bassist Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony. This unparalleled rock rhythm section gives What Happens Next a depth of groove that sets it apart from Satriani’s other work.
Satriani once again teams up with producer/engineer/mixer Mike Fraser on What Happens Next. Fraser has recorded and mixed every AC/DC album since 1990’s The Razors Edge and has been a frequent collaborator with Satriani since the release of Crystal Planet in 1998, producing, engineering or mixing Satriani’s solo albums as well as both studio projects by Chickenfoot.
This 12-track album showcases Satriani’s gift for constant evolution and reinvention as a bandleader and composer of intricate guitar-driven rock. What Happens Next finds Satriani discovering sounds and textures never before heard from an instrument he has unquestionably mastered over his three-decade solo career.

This guy never runs out of awesome riffs.
Hell yeah he has. And in so many different ways. Long may it continue. Will take this over recycled pop shit all day and everyday.
Just like you have. You're just jealous you keyboard warrior.
SDI I really don't know what Satriani riffs sound the same to you
SDI and what have you done the last 20 years?
Devadvo has cold play mastered on guitar hero
This song makes me want to get in my car and drive into the path of an approaching strong thunderstorm. Oh the adrenaline rush.
It's a trip Brother! I've done that very thing more than once.
joe is the best electric guitar composer of our generation!
Blimey, this was just what I needed. Joe always seems to achieve the perfect balance between raw power and heart wrenching melody.
Never stops creating inspiration...
Man I've probably watched Satch play 100 songs with my own eyes, every time I hear one of these songs it nearly sends me into a trance, teleporting my mind to the wild experience that is a Satch concert. Luckily for me the last couple tours were very homey, roots based shows in very small theaters. It was amazing! I sure hope I get the chance just one more time.
Caught him live in 2018 in a smaller venue. One of the best shows I've ever been to apart from AC/DC on the Black Ice tour.
How does he keep coming up with such WILDLY different sounding tunes???
He was definitely born to be a musician.
Satrinai never gets old ... this is mind blowing
Fireproof in your ideas Joe. You never get old. Thanks
IN THE BEGINNING THE SKY THUNDERS, I AM TRAVELLING STARING AT THE MOUNTAINS FULL OF TREES, THEN IT STARTS TO RAIN(LEAD STARTS), IT THUNDERS AGAIN -WIND IS BLOWING HARDER, RAINS AGAIN, RIVER IS FLOWING WITH ITS FULL FORCE, TREES ARE DANCING WITH THE RAIN AND WIND.
this is y i love joe.
Ashish Dhakal. His Music is a Magic that touches Human's soul. . . Amazing song
YA. I love to imagine situations and make some music. Joe really inspires me on what music is and how to approach on.
yep... same thing. this track is so visual... it stimulates your imagination... all of his songs do... love Satch... reason why I started playing guitar seriously...
It's all poetic and a true work of art. I agree
He's a shapeshifter reptilian 😄😄
Bach, Segovia, Mozart and even Beethoven would be saying, "Play it again." That's the LEVEL of Satriani. 👽🎸🎶
And Satch would nail it AGAIN note for note.
Yes sir he definitely is.
You said it man! I get so much deep enjoyment from listening to JS recordings, I can’t help but to think that future generations will discover his music, and his fame will only grow, to where he will be up there on the Mount Rushmore of the musical greats you mentioned. I’m certain Joe himself would laugh at such notions but I’m completely serious!
I think it's because Satch has always been humble and low-key yet others who sought fame and weren't as successful, faded away as Joe kept making amazing and consistent music FOREVER. 👽🎸🎶
Best comment!! 🎉🔥
Joe's playing is so imaginative and full of feeling!
This sound... It sounds like the air is really charged with high voltage!
What a riff after intro!!
This guy has an unstoppable momentum :D
That's because he's an extremist

@@RodFelix I always feel like I'm.. flying in a blue dream when I'm listening to him.
Nothing can stop the real rock 'n' roll.
Pretty much outlasted all of the mid 80's bands didn't he?
Modren classic 👍 🎸 keep on rocking 🎸🔥
Already hooked. Thank you for giving us outstanding music these past 30 years.
Ben McLendon love the profile pic
This cant stop being awesome ..
thousands play fast, but Satriani is one of the very few who blend composition, emotion and interstellar maestry.
Joe Satriani would be a cool character in The Matrix lol
Some program leftover from the 80's thats still rocking
Joe is the matrix...didn't you know 😱
Yup
@@lexluther6683 whoa
He IS the matrix
The intro has some nice celtic mood.
Péter Kiss kinda reminded me of japanese shamisen music.
No it hasnt. Its just a bassdrum
Jimmi Vedsegaard Pedersen It has it if he feel it.
He's never get old.... Keep on rockin joe \m/
TO MY EAR THIS MAN, THIS GUITAR SOUNDS THE BEST OF ALL.
His 90’s tone is back
James Evans just curious, what made you give that assessment? I'm a fan of Satch's music, well at least casually, yet I'm not much of a tone afficionado myself. Maybe you can shed some insights on Satch's tonal pursuits throughout the years? Thanks!
He is just talking about the tone that was used in the different albums. If you listen to albums such as The Extremist, Surfing with the Aliens, or even Flying in a blue dream, you will hear this rocky, loud tone that was commonly used in the 90's. Joe's last album, Shockwave Supernova, was greatly criticized because it was a different tone, and people just assume that an artist belongs to a single tone - kind of music, which is naive and wrong.
So I have to agree with James Evans, that his old tone is back, since it's one we have listened to for years, but it could be anything else, as long as it keeps being so instrumentally awesome, I couldn't care less. Joe is Joe after all ! :)
Thank God the peavey debacle is over
James Evans It’s a 4 channel 100 watt Marshall Satriani signature model.
He’s been touring it for a few years ironing out the bugs.
I have a friend who owns one and loves it.
Been listening to Joe since Surfing with the Alien was newly released and been a fan ever since. I don't think his tone has changed but i will concede that there have been some songs that show an evolution in his musical writing. Shockwave Supernova was a great album with several really good choices in songs. I have never found an artist that produces albums where i like and enjoy every song and Joe is no exception but he is the one artist i would go see live and I HATE live performances in general. So many songs of his just hit that right nerve for that right mood. His music, for me, is therapeutic and completely enjoyable. I don't think another guitarist is his equal and it's hard to compare and he has taught many of the great guitarists on the scene. This man is by far a genius and a god when it comes to that guitar.
Joe Satriani master!!!
Chrome boy is back rippin as usual 😎
Can't believe this guy is 61 and looks that good. Amazing!!
Oh yeahhhh. Let's hear the thunder roar. This is massively heavy Joe. Thanks for the music.
Satriani is awesome. He creates awesome riffs and beautiful melodyes. I fell in love with his music since the first day I listened "If I Could Fly". What a great musician.
The radio needs to share this music with the world. Pop listeners need to discover this great music. I'm sure they gonna love it
IICF was the first song I heard back in the day, game on.
Best song I've heard from Joe in years!! I love it from front to back, just a great rocker!! No extraneous shreds, just perfectly executed melodic riffing... Amazing!!!
Agreed man...Satch is legend status at this point IMO.
0:1😅2 😂
The more I listen to this one the more it stays on rotation. Thank you Joe. Blue Buffalo
The drums and Bass sound amazing on this album!!!!!!
at the legato part im feel like "we are riding with 1000 horses to steppes and yell Haillll Haill at middle of the war" youre always perfect Satriani. i love you so much keep on rocking
*Epic*
I AM ALREADY LOVING IT... LOVE U JOE.
Joe's probably the only musician that makes each album as if it were the first, never gets out of ideas, never boring, never sounds as if he just works the contract, even when he's self-plagiarizing
Guess well of the instrumental if escencial greething satriani 💪🤘
Wow...agreed with everything you said right up to the non-existent, hyphenated miscarriage of English right at the end. There is no such thing as "self-plagiarizing." Please look up the definition for the word "plagiarize." Spoiler alert: to plagiarize is to take the work of SOMEBODY ELSE and try to pass it off as your own. You can't steal from yourself... Wow...
@@labgrunt1961 Self-plagiarism is commonly referred to the cases when authors reuse own ideas in creating new content. So, go BACK TO SCHOOL, stupid kid and stop trying to jump in before the adults 😁
Educate yourself and check your ideas every time you post something - it makes you look dumb 🤣LOL
Sounds of other galaxy. SATRIALIEN

Played this at Merriam Theater in Philly during G3 tour. I almost pounded the seat back in front of me into the ground. Thank you Joe for a wonderful night.
The Satch at his best. Composition + shred = totally awesome. You can feel the thunder.
Drums are amazing along with Joe's guitar! I dont know how many times did I listen already!

Never really listened to Satriani but this is pretty damn good. Great riff and melody.
what a Talent.... never-ending you are a genius my friend.... Thankyou
A little tinge of “ wind in the trees “ and “ oriental melody “ with the grunge of “ souls of distortion “ made my day .
Oh, shit! 👌

Awesome #JoeSatriani you always amaze me and you are a huge inspiration for me and a lot of people! Thanks for your hard work! 🎸🎶🤘🏻
Wilmer Lebron its not hard it comes naturally.
the satch is back !! amazing!
Joe really is a smooth bastard on guitar. Incredible
Another great track, Joe! Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
The tone of the last chord at 4:31 is like a juicy cheeseburger and crispy fries with a smooth and creamy-thick milkshake!
Inspiration brother Joe!
Joe Satriani is once again unmatched guitar god
Pure awesomeness
Saw him in Reno, there for a jazz competition from Oregon in High School. Broke away from the class and got tickets from a scalper. First row in a small setup. Was rad. Stu Hamm had an hour long solo set after. Dude is an animal too!
Two of my favorite rockers together, I didn't see that coming
Brilliant...again...expected nothing less from you and never have and never will!
Hats off maestro!
Mental! Awesome. I grew up on a diet of Zep,Purple,Sabbath etc. Joes inspiration takes heavy but melodic rock to another level. Long may you reign Joe.
Mountain - "Mississippi Queen" vibes on the heavy part.
The chrome boy is back!
That ending from 4min ❤
This guy can get us to the roof and back down again!!!
That solo combined with that trademark Satch tone is fucking beautiful. Long live the alien!
This album is so amazing, and I cant wait for the G3 Tour
On of the prettiest songs I've ever heard, great job Joe!!!
So much energy
Joe 🎸🎶🔥👍👏🤘❤️
Joe...stop being this awesome
Power
Joe being Joe..awesome!
Şu yaşta hala üretebilmesi müthiş... Harika Joe! :)
Joe plays like he's f...in 20! I hope I go before he does cause I'd hate to not hear anything new by him after I die. I even named my daughter after his songs Rubina and Rubina blue sky happiness. And I couldn't be prouder of her as I am of these songs! Thank you Joe!!!
thank you Joe
Satch+EVH+SRV= GUITAR GOD!
EARGASM
This man is a storyteller...
Just figured out his rhythm section is Hughes and Smith, no wonder the whole album is amazing!
THE MAN IS A FUKN ABSOLUTE GENIUS AT EVERYTHING GUITAR !!!
High on the MOUNTAIN!
RIP Leslie
this intro would be so sick live!
Galactus rolls down the windows of his planet devouring worldship cranking this tune so loud the universe trembles in fear.
bruh feeelin this
The tonal range and power of this guy is phenomenal.
damn that was epic
I learned everything I know about melodic phrasing from listening to satch for the last 9 years. The man still never fails to impress me
I can see Joe on mars cranking out this tune!
So glad i discovered this! This guy is amazing!
You have a long strange journey ahead of you my friend, through some "Strange, Beautiful Music". Enjoy the trip! Let me know if you have checked out any of his 16 other albums!
Echoing supr chicken - man, if you’re just discovering JS, start out with some best-of playlists, but DON’T you dare stop there - out of his 15 ( I think) studio albums I can only think of a handful of songs that I don’t really care to listen to. The guy has recorded well over 100 great, memorable songs.
I got the reference to Mountain in the title as soon as I heard those Leslie West power chords. The big man is no doubt diggin' this track. Props to you Joe for giving him some love here.
What a manly riff!
Amazing...one of his best track after 2010......
Holy HOW!!! Even at this stage this guy is immensely creative. #JoeSatriani #TheGREAT
I'm a huge fan of Satch's older stuff like "Not Of This Earth" and more, but I'm really digging his newer, aggressive and more organic music. I don't know how he does it, this guy is a beast.
