  • In the past few years I've purchased several watches and watch accessories from businesses in foreign countries. I'm happy to report that my experiences have been positive. This has allowed me to get several Casio watches, including G-Shock, Pro-Trek and Oceanus models, which would otherwise not be available to buy in the USA. These Japanese Domestic Market or JDM offerings are often quite attractive. Here are some detailed thoughts about what it's like to order things which happen to be coming from other countries.

Hi, hopefully this information is helpful. My wife is a US import customs broker but I asked her about the extra fees and she informed me that anything under $800 will not be charged duty fees but over $800 you may get a charge which will be collectedby the shipping company usually

When shopping internationally I think it is important to understand that Ebay is not the only option. Sakura and Buyee have long proven themselves over and over again to me in my watch collecting journey be more competitively priced. Particularly, Buyee.

I have purchased directly from sellers in Sweden and the UK with no import/duties, but have also never spent over $150 on a single transaction, so maybe that has an effect. I have also never had issues with Amazon purchases from the UK or Japan. Merry Christmas Greg!! Thanks for the great videos!

I bought my 3rd Casio Oceanus on ebay just recently. Slightly used ocw s5000 Manta and it is incredible! It even came with the extra links and I used your tutorial on how to install the pins and collars! Thank you sir!

I bought the Ellen Ripley “Alien” watch A100WE (3503) in gunmetal from a dealer in Spain. This was the only international watch I’ve ever bought. Everything went fine with no additional charges. It just took a LOT longer to get here. It was worth the wait-what a beauty.

I just bought two versions of the new GW-9500 MUDMAN from a seller in Singapore. I had no issues , seller had great feedback , free shipping and I saved over $130.00 on each watch. One of the watches was delivered in 14 days and the other in 17 days. I also bought the Casio DWE-5600CC-3 from a seller in Hong Kong on September 18th and it was delivered on September 20th , I was blown away by how fast it was shipped and the shipping was free. Ive bought from JAPAN in the past as well and have never had any issues and many times the shipping has been free. I haven't bought from the UK since the shipping is never free and the shipping cost is always over $35.00.

last year I decided to buy a Casio g-shock g-9000 from ebay and it didn't say anything about the cost of postage, so I paid for the watch. The second day the seller told me that he does not ship to Croatia, then I had to find someone in Germany to collect the watch and send it to me, luckily everything went well and the watch is still with me.

Another comfy video! I bought a $1200 Junghans radio quartz analog, titanium case, leather strap and paid around $100 to get it here. DHL had me complete a form listing out details of the watch, my actual taxes were a fraction of the $100, the rest was DHL's fee for handling the customs. I think price/materials involved affects the exact fees to be paid. I'd guess a gold automatic Rolex is going to pay a higher rate than a digital resin watch, even at the same price.

You are lucky with such high import limits in the US. In the UK the limit varies. I think for watches it about £135 before import tax is applied (below that figure the seller has to add the cost of import tax to the sale price. )
Recently bought an Oceanus S100 directly from a respected Japanese retailer which went perfectly but I was stung with the normal 20% vat plus the carriers own admin charge before they would deliver. At least I expected this because I’d done my homework. But still left me with a sour taste. UK Customs seem to be much more stringent since Brexit too so I think you have to be lucky to miss these charges.

I live in Spain and there are additional charges of more than 20% coming from Japan.
I bought a second hand watch and got hit by customs. So I paid taxes in Japan and Spain.
Nonetheles, I was still satisfied with my purchase (gw-6900 in perfect condition).

Have bought around a dozen of Casios from China and Japan, only once the seller in China didn't send the watch, and I got reimbursed from ebay without issues. I also bought a preowned black G7800 from Japan and it was in mint condition, which is often the case from Japan.

I have also purchased several watches from Japan, including 3 Oceanus watches. No duty has been charged. I think it is mostly referring to countries like the UK with a VAT tax. I have heard several UK reviewers talk about the customs charges and VAT they have to pay.

I'm in the US and I've ordered a few Casios from a retailer in Spain that uses DHL. The shipping fee is about $20 but the watches arrive very quickly. I've also bought from a retail in Singapore that offers free shipping through SingPost (eventually ending up with USPS), but it can take 2-3 weeks. Waiting doesn't bother me if I'm getting a good deal or getting something unavailable in the US market.

I have bought a fare few watches from Japan. As I live in the UK. Anything over the value of about £150:00 you will get tax on or should do. It is the total value of items and shipping and it is tax at 20%. I do hope it help with people living in the UK.

I use overseas companies all the time and most companies ship via DHL or Fed Ex and I get the items very quickly. Of course eBay has the international options, but I frequently use japan-select and gioiapura. Both these venders sell new watches and I usually receive my items anywhere between 3 - 7 days. However, recently purchased a new Citizen from an eBay international seller on 11/08 and am still awaiting the delivery :/

I bought a Japanese a Casio costing $1,600 and about a week after it arrived I got a bill for $68 from FedEX. I was unaware of this procedure. Loved the watch but was not happy paying FedEX for a home land inspection.

That's certainly an interesting watch. I wondered if I really needed a stopwatch with that many features. And THEN I thought that if I bought that watch I'd feel obligated to increase my physical exercise by, like, 1,000 percent! BUT... it's still an interesting watch and the price isn't bad. I'll have to see what our financial situation will allow after the year is over. Also... that Maverick Watch Reviews guy posted a pretty good video about that watch a while ago. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

I bought a watch from a Japanese vendor through eBay. The courier company sent me an invoice for the sales tax we pay here in Ontario, Canada. The vendor included a piece of origami along with the watch.

Are you going to review any of the new G-shock square Charles Darwin watches? They look exactly like your thing

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  6 месяцев назад +1

I'm thinking about those. They use the same module I already have in other watches with solar, bluetooth and Multiband 6. They're just a little pricey because it's a special collaboration AND they're a Japanese market exclusive... but I will keep my eyes on them and try to figure out what to do.

We in the United States due to our consumer protection laws do not have to deal with the things people in some other countries have to deal with. The Republican Party is trying to do away with those very consumer protections, go figure, they only do things that hurt the average person. I enjoy your videos and they cover the topics I would do if I made these kind of videos. I have had the same experience for the most part. I did have one bad experience with one seller from Japan and Ebay made me whole with no problems. Thanks for the video I am sure it will help others.
