    Thanks for the video a couple tips for viewers: there is another oil drain plug opposite the one he shows that is much easier to get to. Also if you look at the maintenance schedule it does say to change the oil after 25 hours for the break in period.

    I bought this generator a couple two or three weeks ago from Costco and it works pretty good so far. I never did any break in time on it and I sort of spaced changing the engine oil on it, so it now has 150 hours on it with the original oil, guess I better go buy some new oil lol! But I mean it still works so that's a plus, must not be too terrible of a generator. I live in my fifth wheel full time so it gets a lot of use, I probably run it 15 hours a day on the weekends and 5 to 7 a day on the weekdays with really no issues, although it doesn't like to run both of my AC's on full blast and sometimes it will trip if I run 1 AC and the microwave with my desktop and 3 battery chargers... lol, oh and the fridge. But I'm not sure if it's the generator or if it's the surge protector in my camper that's being sensitive to the loads. But either way, for $500 at Costco it's cheaper than any Harborfrieght generator and has more features. I'm interested to see how long this thing lasts though and seeing as how it gets 200 or so hours a month on it I'm gonna find out real fast. In a couple months if I remember I'll try to do an update to see what it's at.

    • @dedalliance1
      @dedalliance1 4 года назад +5

      So an update, has 550 hours on it now on 8-3-19. No major problems, sometimes it likes to not want to start when I select gas mode with gas in it, but if I just put it on propane mode then it starts right up and I switch it real fast back over to gas mode and it stays running. Usually it doesn't do this but it has a couple times which is an interesting quirk but probably just some dumb sensors or something on it. I've been running Amsoil in it and the cheapest gas I can find, I did put some Seafoam in it at about 450 hours to help keep it clean, not sure if it did anything or not but who knows. I feel like 550 hours is a lot on it. I've started running it pretty much from 6:30 AM to 8-10 PM every weekday and probably 11 to 12 in the morning to sometimes 1 or 2 am on the weekends. But even on 95-98 degree days I'll run it all day and it just keeps going, so over heating hasn't been an issue yet.
      Paid $500 for it, so essentially I'm at less than $1 per 1 hour of life so far plus fuel costs of course. But I don't see it stopping anytime soon (Hopefully). Hopefully I can get several thousand hours out of it, but only time will tell.

    • @dedalliance1
      @dedalliance1 4 года назад +7

      So, 9-5-19 another update, Generator is up to 900 hours now, no problems yet really at all. Still running strong, using nothing but Amsoil in it small engine oil. Hopefully it keeps running good.

      This is super helpful, thank you for the updates

    • @dedalliance1
      @dedalliance1 4 года назад +4

      @@TacticalTaco41 No problem. It's at about 1,070 hours now, but for some reason the little choke lever got 'Loose' or something so now it likes to vibrate into the choke position and turn itself off, I tried tightening the screw on it but it didn't feel like it went in anymore so I'm not sure what's going on with that, I had to tie a string around it to keep it from moving. A couple times it has also shut off and then starts dripping gasoline out of it and I'm not even sure what the part is called but it's that black cylinder behind the air filter location but if you switch it from the gas fuel selector to the propane one it stops dripping, so I think it's a computer problem thinking it's still running and trying to send fuel to itself but then it back flows and starts leaking out or something I'm really not too sure.

    • @TheLowlyTraveller

      @@dedalliance1 I think that black cylinder is the vape canister used for emissions purposes. Thank you Commiefornia 😡. I'm not sure if it could be bypassed.

      Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: everyone needs to see this safety reminder to be safe whenever using portable generators. This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Portable generators can be dangerous if not used carefully and they need a lot of maintenance. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. I bought the same unit in November of last year. After 24 hours of no power and freezing in the house, I decided to go look for a generator and got the last unit at Costco for $649. I'm pretty pleased with this unit. Lately, I got a interlock installed on my panel with an inlet outside and I love this setup. We lost power again for half a day 2 weeks ago and it's so easy to just power everything in the house without running extension cords.

      Awesome. I plan on doing that myself one of these years. That generator should power my well pump and most of my appliances with the exception of the range, dryer and water heater. I also plan to run it off my big propane tank. That should keep me powered for a while.

      During the power outage 2 weeks ago, I powered furnace & water heater (both gas), all lights and power outlets (you just have to be aware of the load you put on) and my wife was using the stove (electric) to cook something. The generator had no problem at all running all this.

      Also, it would have no problem running the dryer (electric), I would just not run it at the same time as the stove though.

    Thanks for the video. I just bought this same one 3 weeks ago. I started breaking it in today. I took the spark plug out and injected a small amount of Lucas Oil in there. I also mixed some with the oil that came with the generator when I started it up. I ran it for an hour on a very light load and put it away. I will change the oil tomorrow and repeat the same procedure. It ran flawlessly on propane and I am not sure I am going to run it on gasoline or not. I haven't decided.

      I'm sure it would run on natural gas if you changed the jet in the carb or orifice to a slightly larger one. Natural gas has fewer BTUs per cubic foot than LPG, but if you put a larger orifice in it you're good to go. The engine will run on it.

Please make sure you fill the generator with the oil supplied before pulling the pull start or electric start(if it has one). I live in grass valley area if you are close by and you need help with your generator, just reply back. I do not want anyone to suffer from the idiots of PGE!

      break in is:
      1 hour no load...listen to it hummmm smooth..
      then plug in about 2500-3000 worth of whatever (heaters are easiest) into it..(about half of its total capacity) for another 2-4 hours. This will seat the valves correctly. You will hear the generator idle up and down during this period. That's how it's supposed to work.

Hope this helps. Thank you. Hope you stay safe. All generator safety rules are required to be followed carefully.

      it really depends on the load...the new refrigerators run on half the amps then the old ones from 10 years and beyond ago.
      Rule was dedicate a circuit for a fridge... it's still a rule but new fridge is 5.3 amps compared to 11 amps from old ones.

    I just bought this generator today. Is it ok to only use propane? I’d like to keep it gasoline free if possible. Also, once it’s broke in my plan is to store it...are there any tricks or tips for extended storage (other than what’s in the manual)?
    The manual says to run it once a month for 30 minutes (I think).

    • @TheLowlyTraveller
      @TheLowlyTraveller  5 лет назад

      It is highly recommended to break it in for the first 5 hours. It will allow the rings and valves to properly set thus making the engine last longer. You can use the oil provided for the 5 hour break-in. After that I recommend changing it and using Amsoil small engine or Royal Purple HPS 10w30.
