Great video! I have always been a gamer, since the mid to late 80’s. I had been waiting for mainstream VR for 25 years. We have a quest 1, quest 2, PSVR1, and now buying 2 quest 3’s for me and my son. I really feel that the VR community is much more enthusiastic about the games instead of the platform you’re playing on. We have both Xbox series and PS5 and love both, however I find this community is so much less toxic than others. I hope everyone has a blast with their new quest 3 if they’re getting one, and if you’re getting or have something else I hope you have fantastic time with it.

Hell yeah dude, I'm so hyped for this! Even just the fact that it removes some of the compromises that limited the Q2 (one screen panel, ipd, etc) is good, but the better lenses, AR functionality, and the new chip make this device even more exciting than the Quest 2 was!! It's crazy that already we're seeing a jump equal in size or better than the jump from Q1 to Q2 was, and that was a pretty impressive jump!

Questions. Does it remember multiple room layouts , or do you need to map it each time. Is the room mapping adaptive IE ? It will recognise that the couch table has moved and adjusts. If it recognises an object as a table or bed. Will it allow you to sit or lie on it without it freaking out, thinking you just broke the 5th wall. I'm disabled so I'm hoping I don't have to re map every time I generally always play sitting down. My VR space is in my room with one of them double beds that lift up too yhe wall, so I curious to see wether or not it will think I'm in a different room if it's lifted up. I often play with the bed down as I'm sitting anyway.

I think the question that I haven't seen answered anywhere is what sort of material is the stock facial interface. I had a VR Cover replacement for my quest 2 that made a night and day difference that makes me wonder if I'll need to do the same for the quest 3 to make it better for long gaming sessions.

How is the tracki9ng volume? (specifically the tracking volume, not tracking quality.) can you hold the controllers above the headset and still move your hands around, like with the pico 4 and quest 2?

@@SteveKnows I use a HP Reverb G2 Rev 2 for PCVR and there are no ScreenDoor effects at all, but with my Pro there is. How is the Q3? Since the resolution has improved and is now almost as high per eye as the Reverb, my hipes are, that we now finally can get some straight lines without this moving effect when we tilt the head. Can you confirm this? The thing that really bugged me with Q2 and Pro is, that I can see the pixelmatrix on both, which is an immersion breaker for me. With the Reverb there is just smooth beautiful graphics. How is the Q3 in this regards?

@alongal407 well actually at the start i ordered more accessories like the elite strap and active straps but canceled the order and upgraded to the 512gb version instead just for future proofing, and i didnt mind spending the money at all since its something im passionate about, but you have a point there about thinking about it more, but i still dont regret it 👍

Not sure about that, I'm a huge vr expert, I know almost everything about the Q3, but the quest 2 wasn't made for outdoors. But given how much improvement they put into the Quest 3, I don't have an answer but I'd say no. They haven't talked about sunlight damage at all so I assume it's not any different from the previous Quest.
I would like to know how are the black levels? I played all quest models and I really was immersed in quest 1 in horror games. And lcd doesn’t put you in proper dark and is disappointing.

Sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic headset and if the fov will really be 110 horizontally and as fov is a big thing for immersion o think other pc vr headsets will be blown out if the water . I own an index and am on a downer now because if the fov of the quest 3 is going to be better and wireless with graphically good mobile games on par with pc then index sold and a day one purchase for this lol
RUclipsr @Paradise Decay got to try the Quest 3 at one of these press events and he wrote in a comment to his video that he found out after the press event that the Assassin's Creed version he played was the Quest 2 version, and that the Quest 3 optimized version was not ready yet. This excited me, because a lot of people have said the graphics didn't look stunning, especially after seeing Red Matter 2. Have you heard anything like this personally or from other content creators?
I have everything for the quest 2, the quest 2 headstrap, carry case and hand straps. Do I have to buy all of that again for the quest 3? Or can I re use some of them ? Also how is the standard headstrap ? Should I buy a pro strap
i cant confirm but i feel like i saw an elite strap from Q2 on a Q3 at the event. youll have to try it out =/ the carry case looks like it will be good though for sure. straps again not sure just yet. but ill answer these with my full review

I want to know how tethered USB works.....will it transfer as actual video this time like type C standard.....or will it use the same poor video over usb data method like the q2 does? meaning restricted bitrate etc. Also,, can it maintain a charge while longer gaming wired, which the q2 couldnt do, and accuracy of hand tracking eg for flipping small switches in DCS world
It's still transcoded but it supports AV1 now. One way to get much more charge out of the Quest 2 while plugged in is to use 72 hz or get a powered USB hub/PCI card.
@@Thezuule1 interesting.... Where did you read that at as not found anything on it. Guess av1 on the pc will add some more work as a downside unless the GPU supports it in the hardware
@@midnight7297 AV1 decoding is built into the new SoC. There is such a thing a DisplayPort over USB-C but it isn't common. Pico 3 used it and then promptly ditched it to go back to transcoding with the Pico 4 which probably means something. I'd personally love to see standalone headsets like Quest 3 include a DP/HDMI port on them for direct connections but transcoding has become really good on NVIDIA cards at least. My daughter uses my 4070 series card from across the house on her PC using Moonlight and you honestly can't tell the difference from sitting at the machine locally. NVENC is pretty amazing even not using AV1.
@@Thezuule1 Unfortunately means to get benefit from the AV1 you'd need a 40 series nvidia card to support AV1 encode (dont know about AMD side of gpus), unfortunately I''ll be sticking to the 3080 until at least the 50 series cards
Will the Quest 3 controllers work with the Quest 2? Reason being, I switched to the pro controllers when the Quest 2 ones wore out. Quest 2 is going to my granddaughter. Would be nice not to have to buy or fix the originals.

This is looking pretty good. I probably should have waited for the quest 3 before I bought a 2nd Quest 2 headset for my 10 year old (who now is able to use a Quest). The fact that it is lighter should make it easier for her to play games. Hopefully Roblox and Gorilla Tag also support 10 year old VR users.
yeah those controllers are pricy but they have their own snapdragon chip in each one :P so kinda make sense but tracking on those is amazing! like absolitely amazing
Good info here. There is a hint of cinicism as you list the accessories and their prices. As a PCVR gamer who's always used 3rd party straps and batteries, I'm not enticed by pricing here. I'll get the 128gb thanks. It's more than enough for the 4 or 5 native games I touch while travelling. Steam will provide my AAA experiences as it always has.
All I want to know is if it's better than the Quest Pro for PCVR with a 13900K, 4090? I know you have the same spec PC, did you get to compare in PCVR?

In the states the typical credit options for buying electronics are very predatory. Shorthand you don't really want to use them if you have the option. On average you'll be paying about 1.5 to more than three times the price by the time you actually pay it off.
The UK it is totally different thankfully, there are many companies that let use buy things and pay it in say...4 payments interest free Even PayPal here lets you pay in 4 payments for anything over £99 and often buy now pay next year
@@marklola12 A lot of things are better over there. It isn't as easy for corporations to put their wants above the people. But yeah, here in the US there's often 5-20% interest on the ideal side of things. Some companies offer interest free or interest options if you sign up for and use their credit card. But any non-big end that will offer it when your credit is less than ideal is vying for your failure to pay it off in time.
I bought prescription lenses for my quest 2 for like $80. I was hoping they're compatible with the quest 3. I think that's the only thing I would be concerned about if I were to upgrade in the future.
The VR lenses are totally different in size and shape. The 3 is more adjustable so maybe you can get by without your glasses, worth a try if you can find one to test out first.
The mistake I made with my Quest 2 is buying the official Quest accessories before I found RUclipsrs like Steve showing me that the Kiwi (and other companies) accessories were actually better products for less money.
I wouldnt feel comfortable saying with out having a side by side comparison as its just a 15% increase but from memory it felt icer but could be due to the optical stack.

100% agree, but tbf we are paying for it. Quest 3 is more expensive. Eye tracking would have sealed the deal imo

i would guess it would because it would be connected to the headset via usb C input. the dock will use ins on the front of the device.

It still supports Link and Air Link. No idea about 72hz. I run my Q2 at 90hz for PCVR stuff so that's not something I considered.

Shared spatial anchors is solved but it requires a game developer to utilize it.

Bottom line the Quest 3 is awesome, don't buy the official accessories they are over priced, wait for 3rd party accessories.

Outdoor use with Quest 3, can it be done? Mark said something about taking it anywhere you want; I want to take it outside.

Sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic headset and if the fov will really be 110 horizontally and as fov is a big thing for immersion o think other pc vr headsets will be blown out if the water . I own an index and am on a downer now because if the fov of the quest 3 is going to be better and wireless with graphically good mobile games on par with pc then index sold and a day one purchase for this lol
RUclipsr @Paradise Decay got to try the Quest 3 at one of these press events and he wrote in a comment to his video that he found out after the press event that the Assassin's Creed version he played was the Quest 2 version, and that the Quest 3 optimized version was not ready yet. This excited me, because a lot of people have said the graphics didn't look stunning, especially after seeing Red Matter 2. Have you heard anything like this personally or from other content creators?
I nabbed the 512 model with the elite battery strap and hard case. Cant wait.

I have everything for the quest 2, the quest 2 headstrap, carry case and hand straps. Do I have to buy all of that again for the quest 3? Or can I re use some of them ? Also how is the standard headstrap ? Should I buy a pro strap
i cant confirm but i feel like i saw an elite strap from Q2 on a Q3 at the event. youll have to try it out =/ the carry case looks like it will be good though for sure. straps again not sure just yet. but ill answer these with my full review
One of the 3rd party strap makers is going to offer kit to adapt an old Q2 strap. I forget who, naybe Bobo?

I want to know how tethered USB works.....will it transfer as actual video this time like type C standard.....or will it use the same poor video over usb data method like the q2 does? meaning restricted bitrate etc. Also,, can it maintain a charge while longer gaming wired, which the q2 couldnt do, and accuracy of hand tracking eg for flipping small switches in DCS world
It's still transcoded but it supports AV1 now. One way to get much more charge out of the Quest 2 while plugged in is to use 72 hz or get a powered USB hub/PCI card.
@@Thezuule1 interesting.... Where did you read that at as not found anything on it. Guess av1 on the pc will add some more work as a downside unless the GPU supports it in the hardware
Damn quick search suggests av1 encode only in 40series cards and not my 3080 (on team green anyhow)
@@midnight7297 AV1 decoding is built into the new SoC. There is such a thing a DisplayPort over USB-C but it isn't common. Pico 3 used it and then promptly ditched it to go back to transcoding with the Pico 4 which probably means something. I'd personally love to see standalone headsets like Quest 3 include a DP/HDMI port on them for direct connections but transcoding has become really good on NVIDIA cards at least. My daughter uses my 4070 series card from across the house on her PC using Moonlight and you honestly can't tell the difference from sitting at the machine locally. NVENC is pretty amazing even not using AV1.
@@Thezuule1 Unfortunately means to get benefit from the AV1 you'd need a 40 series nvidia card to support AV1 encode (dont know about AMD side of gpus), unfortunately I''ll be sticking to the 3080 until at least the 50 series cards

Will the Quest 3 controllers work with the Quest 2? Reason being, I switched to the pro controllers when the Quest 2 ones wore out. Quest 2 is going to my granddaughter. Would be nice not to have to buy or fix the originals.

It comes with both models. Just the 512 gets Quest+ as well. So he stated it correctly.

This is looking pretty good. I probably should have waited for the quest 3 before I bought a 2nd Quest 2 headset for my 10 year old (who now is able to use a Quest). The fact that it is lighter should make it easier for her to play games. Hopefully Roblox and Gorilla Tag also support 10 year old VR users.
it was worse when Quest 2 dropped and people jsut bought the Quest 1!! harsh times. keep the Q2 it will be good for cooperative titles

Lots of people have issues with the pro controllers. You may not actually want those.
yeah those controllers are pricy but they have their own snapdragon chip in each one :P so kinda make sense but tracking on those is amazing! like absolitely amazing

Good info here. There is a hint of cinicism as you list the accessories and their prices. As a PCVR gamer who's always used 3rd party straps and batteries, I'm not enticed by pricing here. I'll get the 128gb thanks. It's more than enough for the 4 or 5 native games I touch while travelling. Steam will provide my AAA experiences as it always has.

quest 3 is more resolution more comfortable to wear for a long session but pro is better colors due to his oled screen but not by much
@@Taha-Aamamou I know the specs i'm interested in the experience. Quest Pro with a top strap is the most comfortable headset of the 8 I've owned, no facial interface is so much better. Not sure I want to go back to one.

In the states the typical credit options for buying electronics are very predatory. Shorthand you don't really want to use them if you have the option. On average you'll be paying about 1.5 to more than three times the price by the time you actually pay it off.
The UK it is totally different thankfully, there are many companies that let use buy things and pay it in say...4 payments interest free
Even PayPal here lets you pay in 4 payments for anything over £99 and often buy now pay next year
@@marklola12 A lot of things are better over there. It isn't as easy for corporations to put their wants above the people. But yeah, here in the US there's often 5-20% interest on the ideal side of things. Some companies offer interest free or interest options if you sign up for and use their credit card. But any non-big end that will offer it when your credit is less than ideal is vying for your failure to pay it off in time.
I bought prescription lenses for my quest 2 for like $80. I was hoping they're compatible with the quest 3. I think that's the only thing I would be concerned about if I were to upgrade in the future.

The VR lenses are totally different in size and shape. The 3 is more adjustable so maybe you can get by without your glasses, worth a try if you can find one to test out first.
I might just order it with the Shipt app to get it same day to my house because i’m too lazy to go to the store. 😂

The mistake I made with my Quest 2 is buying the official Quest accessories before I found RUclipsrs like Steve showing me that the Kiwi (and other companies) accessories were actually better products for less money.
One question I haven’t seen addressed by anyone is if the Quest 3’s faster processing will reduce motion sickness for those that suffer from it

I wouldnt feel comfortable saying with out having a side by side comparison as its just a 15% increase but from memory it felt icer but could be due to the optical stack.
