Hey Nick Murray. Excellent real time demonstration making clear what is unclear in Porsche's own online tutorial but how does Porsche ACC operate in stop and go traffic jams? Say hello to Albert!
I never listen to the crap that seems to spill out of any dealers mouth. This system works perfectly fine under 50km/h (30mph). The only thing to note is if you come to a full stop the car will show the 'hold' light and you will need to touch the gas pedal to give the car the go ahead to start moving again. It will then resume matching the speed of the car ahead. This system is worth it for the PAS system alone
1. I have only driven 4,000 miles in my car so far so I don't know how it will fear long term. Has hard cover over it. 2. No I have the Escort 9500ci radar in my car and it does not interfere with it at all. Glad you found the video helpful
Firstly yes the PAS is on all the time regardless of the ACC being on or off. The PAS will not however stop your car in an emergency without you intervening. It will start the backing and preload the brakes and give you just enough warning but you need step in. I believe they made it this way to stop the car braking if you are taking it on track days.
A wonderful video for sure. Very informative and helpful. Just a word of warning, you have documented for the world to see that you are breaking the posted speed limit. Not only that, but a handful of states also have this nasty little law that states if you are doing 20MPH over the speed limit its considered reckless endangerment. This normally results in you being arrested and the car impounded. You would not be the first person to be busted after the fact because you posted it to youtube. You might want to remember this for future videos.
The ACC will brake the car to a stop. The PAS is designed to be less intrusive because this is a sports car and they did not want the system to interfere with track driving etc. So it is more of a warning system. It will reacted and give warnings and even a jab to the brakes so you have time to take the action needed to avoid the accident without being too intrusive.
I just ordered a 2014 911 C4S Cab and after driving a 2010 Mercedes "S" with the ACC and PAS, I would never drivie a car that doesn't have it. I only wish Porsche made theirs like MBZ...I've driven 75 miles in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic and never touched the gas...when the car comes to a stop, after the car in front moves out a safe distance, the Benz began to accelerate on it's own. Oh well, I can learn to just have to step on the gas slightly. Great video.
Not sure what you meant by saying "worth it for PAS sys alone!" Ive just bought white one with ACC on, the dealer didnt recommend it, but ive taken it, ur video made me happy, great one thx.
Thank you for answering. So the ACC system in the new 911 unfortunately behaves like many others out there. Snappy and too hectic. For a quick speed increase of about 10-15mph I think NO downshift is needed even if the car is at low RPMs in 7th gear. It's a waste of fuel and every downshift adds additional wear to the drivetrain. The only manufacturer so far that sets up its ACC system just right in my opinion is Mercedes. Overall it works way more relaxed and does its job exceptionally well.
No the car was not in either sport mode. Remember that when cruising it moves into 7th gear which is very high indeed (fuel saving) so even a light prod of the gas has it drop back to 6th gear. It does like to catch up quickly for some reason.
I am not sure I agree, the downshift has nothing to do with the ACC it is simply the nature of PDK. 7th is very high so regardless of ACC usage or not the car changes down with even the slightest increase of power. A friend of mine has a MB E550 with the ACC system and we both agree the Porsche system reacts far quicker/ work better. His car is older 2011 so maybe they have improved with the newer models.
The front plate is never pretty. I live in CA and CT and they both require the plate as well but so far I have never had one and got aways with it. Looking at the front bumper the plate should still clear the ACC radar no problem.
First of all - very nice video! I would like to ask you if during your demonstration of the ACC system on this video were either the "sport" or "sport plus" modes activated? I'm curious about this since I find the downshifts that the ACC system automatically engages when it's trying to catch up to a car very odd. I personally don't think that those downshifts would be necessary since the engine is potent enough to accelerate quickly enough even at low RPMs to close those narrow speed gaps.
Hi Nick, just want to thank you for this ACC-PAS review. I was on the fence about adding this option on my order, but now I have decided to include it. What do you think about Porsche Torque Vectoring ? Is it worth it? Thanks
Hi Nick, yes Porsche Torque Vectoring is an option for all 2015 Cayman models, including the new Cayman GTS. I have read that PTV just an additional enhance performance feature on top of the standard PSM. I have chosen the 981 because of emotion:), it seems so suitable for my style of driving. I just finalised my order today. Now the wait begins. This is my first Porsche, and the option list can be so overwhelming, I have been watching your reviews, thank you very much for helping me decide what's best :)
Have you done any fault finding videos, I ask has my acc/pas has a fault symbol stating it’s unavailable, I’m suspecting it’s a low battery, due to the vehicle not be used over the holiday season.
Hi, I have just bought a Cayenne S Diesel with this feature. I'm wondering if the PAS system will completely stop my vehicle in an emergency situation without my intervention. Is the PAS stays active regardless the Adaptive Cruise Control on/off status? Thank you for your great video!
One more question: Are there any options and settings available to the ACC system? For example in Audis there is a myriad of different behavioral settings available like "comfort, dynamic, normal" and so on which affect the behaviour of the ACC system as well. This is true for many other ACC systems within the Volkswagen/Audio empire. Are there any available for the Porsche one? [I suspect that the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" settings available from the center console affect the 911 ACC system]
nice video very informative and well filmed. not sure you should be doing 90 with evidence of you doing so though on film (on the open road that is :) )
Hi Nick. Think this is a 2,000 option on the Cayenne but you'd recommend even if you don't do a ton of highway driving? Still do some highway and debating if I should add to my build?
Nick Murray Thanks, Nick. That would appear to be the answer then, to those who want to avoid rushing up unnecessarily on the car in front and to save fuel.

Thank you That was a really great example of these features
And I have to see your accent really made it seem super professional

2. No I have the Escort 9500ci radar in my car and it does not interfere with it at all.

Thanks for making your demo videos detailing real world feedback of the technology application. Keep them coming.
Just getting my 2015 cayman in a few weeks. Watched all your videos very usfull and informative. Keep them coming thanks a bunch.

Yes Dark Blue. I really like the color, it was easiest choice on this car for me.

Oh Australia, what a sad country you are becoming. Bring on the backlash.
AntonHu Sorry, just realised you are in the USA. Sadly, they lost it years ago.
Wonderful. Now the only thing I still need is a Porsche to use the knowledge I gained by watching this video. Anyway, nice video.
Lol me too!

I got this on my A6, it's awesome. Did a 9000 mile road trip in 3 weeks so easy.
Again another very nice video! Keep up the good work! They're very helpfull :)

Brilliant demo, and very well explained, thanks
Slow traffic is where this system really shines I find.

Excellent explanation of these two systems

very good feature useful for people who likes to speed :)

leoninsf Is Porsche Torque Vectoring an option? I think it was standard in my C2S?
Hi Nick, yes Porsche Torque Vectoring is an option for all 2015 Cayman models, including the new Cayman GTS. great concise video. thanks!
Please try Cayman radar - lane assistant , what with hard carve?

Thanks for this video. Is you car color Dark Blue? if yes how do you like it?
Thanks for information

Can the system automatically bring the car to a full stop, either at high way or city speeds, or when the car in front does an emergency braking?
I wouldn't use that because you might go over a bump and then the computers will go out and you'll rear end it
I'm quite sure Porsche thought about that scenario, I'd trust this system but still keep my foot on the brake.
Does the adaptive cruise turn the brake lights on when it is slowing down?
Hi Nick. Think this is a 2,000 option on the Cayenne but you'd recommend even if you don't do a ton of highway driving? Still do some highway and debating if I should add to my build?
Yes even better with the new Cayeene
Fair enough
Is PASM a must on 2015 Cayman S?
R u in nz???
Dumb question (?) Do you have to be over a certain speed for the PAS to intervene with autonomous brakes?
PAS in the 911 will never intervene only warn you
What does the car do if you are following a car that accelerates faster than your own car?
but surely it would lose the car and the system would just have to cut off
Will the PAS stop for pedestrian, animal or cyclist?
No, it only reacts to vehicles. The new generations will add optional pedestrian recognition.
Does the PDK down-shift when a car moves aside even when you are in manual mode?
AntonHu No it will hold gears
Nick Murray Thanks, Nick. That would appear to be the answer then, to those who want to avoid rushing up unnecessarily on the car in front and to save fuel.
U did better than Porsche!
