    Some myths will never die. The Strv-103 was more than just some super ambush vehicle. It was a designed as a main battle tank, used as a main battle tank and was just as deadly on offense as it was on defense.

    • @MrAnton275
      @MrAnton275 7 лет назад +1

      Back in the day all tanks had to stop to fire, so yes, back then it was almost as good as a turreted one.
      However Ill give you the thing about urban combat, it probably wouldnt be as good there as some turreted tanks of the era. But then again, rule #1 for tank warfare is pretty much stay the fuck away from cities.

    • @ArtietheArchon
      @ArtietheArchon 7 лет назад +14

      All tanks struggle in urban situations but I'd rather be in the S-tank
      than a Leopard 1 because at least if infantry is sneaky and hits me with
      an RPG in the front or the side or the back I will survive. Furthermore in real life gun barrels don't pass through buildings and boulders and trees; a turreted tank sweeps its gun in a much larger arc

    • @solace6633
      @solace6633 7 лет назад

      Artie the Swolest Man in the World still very bad in urban environments and cant be dug in like most other tanks. RPGs are only effective against t54/55 and that era of tanks.

    • @5uxxo2
      @5uxxo2 7 лет назад +5

      sam, would you mind sharing the sources you built your opinion on? would like to have a good laugh.
      "cant be dug in" - thats what the dozer-blade is for. make a nice pile of dirt to hide behind it. no need to dig it in.
      T-54/55 era (Gen 1) - the leopard 1 (Gen 2) was a papertank, with it's focus on mobility and firepower, you can read that up.
      a RPG still can give you headache if it hits your rooftop, even on modern tanks. or just any tank without composite armor, which is everything older than the m1 abrams (Gen 3).
      and as you talk about RPGs in general, the FGM-148 is also kind of a Rocket Propelled Grenade and is quite effective against every tank without a hardkill system, due to it's top-attack mode.

      Shame? At least, Strv was intimidating Soviets to think twice before invading Sweden and it wasn't a wise choice for Soviets to go nuclear during that time. Strv defended Swedes before going dirty, shedding blood and tears.
      Think of Afghanistan, Romania, Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

    • @GraemePryce1978
      @GraemePryce1978 7 лет назад +24

      Always surprises me when people say 'shame this tank never saw action'. Seeing action would mean that it had killed people in horrible ways. Being in a tank that is fired on by another tank is a very, very violent thing. If a shell properly penetrates it either throws molten metal all over the crew or throws pieces of shrapnel around inside at great speed. Tank warfare isn't like the early days where everybody jumps out and runs away. People lose limbs, have parts of their skin melted off or are literally cut to pieces.
      It is never 'a shame' that a tank has never had to do that to real living people. If a tank never sees action then it has done it's job better than if it ever did.

    S-tank was made for the forest in the north. A quite "short" body and gun. it can easy move around in thick forest.
    S-tank also did have several options like mine swiping equipment.
    In the late 90´s did also did try to make i remotely controlled but i think that time and the technology was to far apart.
    A great tank. It is quite funny that Sweden nowdays is not at war for like 200 years but we build the most deadly things..

      And the blade provided more protection.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 Год назад

      Indeed though the Bulldoser blade actually was mainly for armor.
      They also downplay how the creation of the S tank was largely for political reasons. Sweden was neutral and so buying tanks from either NATO or the Warsaw pact came with a lot of diplomatic implications and a lot of trouble. They were using Centurions at the time and so the S tank was also a political statement of Swedish neutrality since it was very heavily associated with Nato.
      The 105mm gun is not the famous British L7 that was used by most of NATO but is a Bofurs version. The Swedish did upgun their existing centurions to the L7 so they had it in their inventory. They just didn't use it on the S-tank again for political reasons.
      Unlike what they say in the video the S-tank used a different 105mm shell than the British L7. Though the gun could fire British L7 shells if it needed to.

      Well, battles are dominated by soviet meds and all of them have 100 mm guns - in a good position Strv will be pretty much immune to them. Including HEAT spam.
      Heavies will auto-pen Strv, though. But you can use standard "E-25 vs blind heavy" tactic and just kite them around the map...

      Followed Gaming
      Overmatch removal was postponed. Even if they bring it back in the next patch, that's still 3+ months ahead from now.
      I think tier 8 UDES would benefit from it more than tier 9 and 10. Those two already have 40 mm of armour so only 121+ mm guns can overmatch it. Tier 8 only has 20 mm of armour so now it gets penetrated by everything - even 75/76 mm guns on tier 6 tanks can overmatch it.

  • @Yuthrayard
    @Yuthrayard 7 лет назад +1

    To enable fire on the run they should have used a gyro stabilized sight. When the gunner presses the fire button it sends a signal to a gyro on the gun at which angle to fire as the hull bounces up and down. You don't tell the gun when to fire but what angle to fire at. This way you can fire on the move.

    • @nilsvikstrom3167
      @nilsvikstrom3167 7 лет назад

      Peter Huang Did you even watch the video? The gun can't move. Not in any way, you have to move the hull to aim.

    • @TheCynicalOne
      @TheCynicalOne 7 лет назад

      What he is saying is... I have my hull pointed at an enemy and I am driving straight towards them (unlikely but for the sake of examples) When the gun reaches a certain angle of elevation then the gun will fire at the perfect time to strike

    • @nilsvikstrom3167
      @nilsvikstrom3167 7 лет назад

      Blaze Boyfire This would be extremely inefficient in this tank. The hull would have to be pointed at the enemy tank, not allowing for maneuvers.

    • @apersson850
      @apersson850 6 лет назад

      That's the whole idea with this tank. And with all tanks. You always try to aim your front towards the enemy, as your tank is strongest in the front. But you can't fire just because the gun is at the correct elevation. It will move while the projectile moves through the barrel, and that will make it inaccurate.
      It's not that the strv 103 can't fire while it's moving. It can. It just can't hit anything smaller than a barn, and it should preferably be inside that barn then...

And tell the devs to bring the Japanese tank destroyers. There are enough designs when you include blueprint tanks that didn't enter production, to create an additional line all the way to tier 10. I've checked it out myself. And give us an Italian tech tree. The Semovente tank destroyers would be a blast. That line could run to tier 10 as well.

    Tanks like IS3 IS4 can still be Roof overmatched by nearly anything

      It's built for the Swedish terrain, and there are lets say a very bumpy terrain to say the least.
      The Land isn't flat(Hills everywhere) at all and most of it is cowered by forest. This makes the S-Tank perfect
      with its low silloette it's almost invisible. To detect a S-Tank..
      You'd have to sacrifies one tank to do so... and when you know where it was,
      well maybe it drew away into the woods. It's a defensive hit'n run kind of tank you could say.
      With a fire rate of 20 rounds a minute :-P
