I just found a strategy that seems to work quite well: Put all your troupes on the following tiles with the following layout: -> 4 on Addis Ababa (the capital) -> 5 on Harar (montain tile just right to Addis Ababa) -> 2 on the airport south of Adis Ababa -> 2 on the the hill south of Harar Use railroads to move them. Now the weird part: convert all your armies to the elite template (Kebur Zabagna). Even if the divisions will be low strength it seems to frighten the Italians AI into not attacking you for a while. On my run, they didn't start attacking semi seriously until July, and waited until September for an all out offensive. (It seems a little exploitative of AI behaviors) This gives time to get some advisors (Infantry Expert, Army Defense, Army Regrouping or Conscription law). It also gives time to reduce the lack of equipment. I trade the only CV factory for steel right from the start (you desperately need guns). In term of focuses, I start with Political Effort for the 120pp (for the Infantry guy), then Industrial Effort, Armament Effort 1, Construction Effort (otherwise you don't have enough enough CV to trade for the steel), then the other Armament Effort with an Army Effort in the middle (time it to sync with one of the third doctrine). After that, banking pp is probably the best bet with maybe another Construction Effort. In term of research I tend to start with "Support Weapons I"" and "Superior Fire Power". Then "'Production I" and the second doctrine, then third doctrine (with the Army effort boost) and Concentrated Industry. Then the hard part starts, resisting until you get enough equipment. You will need to cycle your troupes between tiles, reinforcing the tiles that are low org and moving the units without org on less hit tiles for them to recover somewhat. You may loose 1 or 2 tiles except for the capital (but you lose all 3, you are dead). As soon as you have you have some guns in excess, train new units (Elite template, increased to 20 width). It's ok to deploy them early, they will be trained quite quickly by the Italians. Specially if you are about to lose a tile, deploy them directly in the fight. When you have pumped out 4 or 5 divisions, you should be able to resist the Italians without losing org. With a few more divisions and maybe artillery, start launching an offensive in the south taking the ports and encircling a portion of the Italian troupes. Then try to grab the port in the north with maybe the Allies'' help as you should be around September 39 by that point. Finally, reduce the big Italian pocket in Africa and the rest is up to you (Italian invasion? conquests in the middle east?). Yeah that's fairly standard. ISorrow did it on Road to 56 mod. There you get 10000 guns from Germany, but it glitches for me. All that does is it speeds up how long before you can counter attack. I don't bother with arty. Once you push, yeah group the ports and encircle and bobs your uncle. Cycling gets bloody tedious that's for sure.
I'd like to see you do smaller challenges cause they're interesting and I think there would be more opportunities to find fun exploits which is why I started watching your channel. We all know you can conquer the world.

I'd like to see you do some more 'conventional' gameplay, so I have this challenge: Win the Winter War. You can't declare war on anyone or join a faction until the USSR declares war on you. You must stay non-aligned or democratic. Victory condition is up to you but must include holding all your original territory by the end of 1942.
So i fought myself through most of your great videos, and I dont want to play HoI4 anymore, just watchin them fullfills my needs. And i do like those shorter challenges much more to be honest. Conquering the world is doable for everyone after you reach certain breakpoint in size, but getting there as a small country is super interesting. Keep up the good work man!

A suggestion would be to make your challenges 2 part, one where you do the challenge and the other one just do some crazy thing like in this case take out soviet as Nordic Empire (go Sweden!), would love to see a video about that where you continue on this save
I often don't have time to watch the long challenges so smaller ones are nice. The big ones are usually also just collecting all the needed states after some point because once you're powerful enough, no one can stop you anyways

I like this sort of shorter video tbh, once you get halfway through the normal video it’s pretty much a snowball so it’s a matter of time before you defeat everyone anyway
I loved this. I'm terrible at this game and I followed along exactly what you said to do and was successful. Felt like I learned a lot and could start branching out on my own. More would be amazing. Side note: it would be great if you could add some text on the side of your screen that lists your current research/focus.
I did the Northern Lights achivement a while ago. I used a strategy I call the Turku Tackle. Just ignore the north, and launch a naval invasion to Turku. Works every time, and it is faster.
I know this is late but I am new to hoi4 and I really like that you made it so I can replicate this to hopefully understand more how you get good at the game
This Video was pretty cool! I didn’t replicate this exactly. Did it without historical focussed so it was even easier because the Soviets didn’t attack Finnland at all.
Thanks Taureor! This method worked pretty well for me expect for me doing a a few different focuses and research because I kept going on to paramilitary so I was a bit behind. Also the sending your troops to sea thing doesn’t work anymore lol I just did military support alongside civil and I was able to keep 8 of my divisions. Danish invasion was alright capture Copenhagen and lost everything else but my troops were able to push into the rest of Denmark. Norway was swift made about 20 Calvary and blitzed the hell out of them Olso of course wasn’t defended. Finland was also pretty easy I racked up enough troops and decimated the Finnish forces and had no issue with naval invasion although in the end the soviets took some land so I reloaded the save file because I wasn’t playing on iron man lol and I did the same thing expect better micro management and I switched a few units to Calvary to be a little quicker. Finland was done with before the Soviet’s could even declare. The soviets were justifiably angry at me so they started justifying on me immediately. I joined the axis and took care of Britain with 20 division no issue whatsoever, except in during the peace conference I wasn’t able to take any of Britain (and France) even though I pretty much single handily conquered them. I got most of India and Nova Scotia and Vancouver. It sucks because I can’t release India for manpower because Italy already puppeted the raj in one state. I’m low on manpower now and I’m at war with the soviets they pushed a little into my land but I only put a frontline so neither I or the soviets are attacking, I’m hoping Germany will just deal with them I’ll send a few troops down to help maybe they’re at million losses already. I’ll ride out the game a little longer even though I suck at mid and late game hoi4 because I don’t know what division to make and such. Thanks again and sorry that this is a grammatical mess.

I like the short quick challenges but I think it'd still be best mixing in some bigger ones here and there. Especially for something like a Christmas special :P. World conquest as Luxembourg?
Unfortunately this strategy is no longer usable. The civil war exploit has been patched, and it simply takes too long to switch peacefully or gain enough military support to finish the civil war quickly. I was able to take Denmark easily but at that point Norway was already guaranteed. My options now are to attack Finland in 1939 without having Norway or the Kalmar bonuses, or to take Norway and then fight Stalin for the chunk of Finland they take in the Winter War.
I like the videos where you create various empires with the decision options. It could also be interesting to do videos on how to get various achievements
I like how you explain the Naval Invasions. when i started out i went for the same gameplan but i couldnt break into Copenhagen and i kid you not I figured out how to paradrop and used this before i realised the Naval invasion key was right next to it
Do the Ensieg mod 1945! (Suggestion for rules: 1. Survive the invasion of Allies and Comintern until you've gathered enough units to counterattack 2. No Cavalries but you can use air and blitzkrieg tactics 3. Defeat both of the Allies and Comintern)
When I do Sweden I take Finland first. IMO it’s easier to take Finland early and Norway late than Norway early and Finland late. Finland builds enough units to make annoying garrisons that prevent naval invasions
Honestly my favorite part of HOI4 is micromanaging units, air support, and especially naval combat. There's a few areas you could imrpove upon, but your macro skills and timing amaze me, that's not my forte.

The Winter war started in 1939 so he would have less than 3 years to prepare.

When I do Sweden I take Finland first.
IMO it’s easier to take Finland early and Norway late than Norway early and Finland late.
Finland builds enough units to make annoying garrisons that prevent naval invasions
I like it its arguably more interesting and helpful as a sort of beginners tutorial (more mechanics are learnt)

Honestly my favorite part of HOI4 is micromanaging units, air support, and especially naval combat. There's a few areas you could imrpove upon, but your macro skills and timing amaze me, that's not my forte.

I'd have wanted to see this done with Finland, but I love seeing any challenge you do. Besides, we all knew this was Sweden's plan in the 30s and 40s.
