I was in Blackpool once, in 1980. Back than it was the only remaining operating 'old' tramway in the UK (in service since 1885). It barely survived: the tracks were in very bad condition and most of the trams (single deck and double deck) were in service since the 1930th. It is a similar story as it is in French: the invention of the tram with low-floor has created the mood and the conditions for modernization and new trams. And now, 2023, there are 6 or 7 tramcompanies in Britain (only Manchester has a high-floor system, all the others have low-floor system).
