She would grab her purse, stand up, wave and head out the way she came in, to thunderous applause of course. So I'm almost shocked seeing another person make Lucy move down from the main seat. That was a strange time. Joan was at her peak when this show was axed. Joan's husband took his own life. Joan's career temporarily fell apart and her life fell apart. Fox made a big mistake. The Late Show did not survive the loss of Joan Rivers. Fox lost money. Joan's audience was building. Her ratings, at that time, were healthy. Fox never lost money with Joan. The situation between Edgar and Barry Diller must have been ugly for Fox to go to that extreme.
