So, if you have the buccaneer, isn’t the blunderbuss ability redundant? Shouldn’t you have picked a different low attack rate weapon?

It is but it's fun for the challenge because the weapon is insanely slow unlike the other starter weapons. Thats why I took other weapons later on.
