Little John! Thank you for the interview. This really brings back the memories. Thank God for youtube. Without this the youth coming through wouldn't have a clue about the various strands of dance hall and the role played by artists like Little John in the development of the music which went on to feed so many other genres
Little John big reggae dancehall artist from long time and still going strong , don't stop what your doing john big up .. Wayne lonesome doing a great job every time ..
Listening to Little John about dancehall, is not so it really go Little John. I been around a very long time before Little John, I been going to dance from the 1960s, 1970s, and little John is in the 1980s. But the word dancehall came from a big room is cover top with a door where you haveto pay to come in.It is not the music named dancehall music, it is the kind of building. If played at the club,it is clubhouse dance,if you play at the hotel is called a ballroom dance,if you play at a school it is called a schoolroom dance,if you play at the house, it is called a house party, if you play at the street, it is called a street dance.if you play at a open barbeque, it is called a lawn,if you play at the beach, it is called a breach party. The rubber dubbed sets is different from the should sets, they only played strictly rubber dubbed music. I you used soul sets like Yellow Kenairie, Afrique, Stylistic, Gemini was a soul sets before he changed to a more robber dudded sound. Most of the big sound systems they only played strictly rubber dubbed music reggae music,no other kinds of music. But the soul sets played all kinds of music, so you will enjoy yourself at those sets. Little John is still young according to the time I know him in the 1980s, I guessed he useto lives in Trelawny. I remembered him on a little set from Calabar Rio Bueno, I heard he was from a place named Clarks Town in Trelawny. Because he could really sing as a little youthman when I saw him,he mostly useto sing.I don't remember if it was him little John useto played the amonica, which they called mouth organ .Is since I left Jamaica living in the United States I heard this thing about dancehall music, but you cannot tells these younger generation in Jamaica nothing. Most of the people Little John is calling, they are in 1980s,and 90s DJS he is talking about. He does not know much about the 1960s, and 1970s DJS at all,I useto living near to King Tubbys in 1960s and going to Black Scaprio by drew land before Sassafras was the DJ there. One DJ do a style, and everyone doing a version off it.The longest song in Jamaica with about 50 version of it,is death inner arena, sweet Carolina, and a rainy night in Georgia, I been going to King Tubbys in 1960s and 1970s before police mashed up the sound system in St Thomas.
