Yes I am. I use so many different heads but always seem to love the low mid fullness of the suede. Using it now even on the Gretch my church as well as my snare. It’s pretty lively on the snare so a tiny piece of moo gel works wonders. Also surprised at how defined the high end is on a snare with the black suede.
Hey! Not sure about a line but depending on if you use sticks that have a colored coated in can easily leave marks. The only time I get a discolored snare head is when i play with brushes because it smacks more area on the head and you drag the brushes across the head. Things like that can make it have dirty spots.
Hey! Tnx! Believe it or not is a simple approach. Each video I have been trying something different for the sake of experimenting and this one i really liked. To emulate analog first of all i started tailoring off some of the super high end on each drum channel around 16khz or so since most console will warm up the song some in that area. Next I sometimes use a little distortion saturation on each drum, literally like 1% of it, to add some smoothening to the transients much like a console once again. After I do that I blend the drums and tend to do some slight drum bus compression about 2-3db of reduction to "glue" the drums together. Lastly I will go through each drum channel with what is my favorite ssl waves channel strip and lightly compress with about 2-3 db of each channel. These last two videos I began doing more of expansion rather than gating on the drums because I find that in the box in preserves the transients better. It's almost like when the gate is engaged on most plugins it isn't quick enough to grab the crack of the snare. It blew my mind when I actually paid attention to that. I will say the most important part to bring the drums to live is ambience/fx. The right reverb sound and decay will make or break most mixes, especially on drums. Me personally, I am using a rode nt4 xy overhead mic right now which I don't prefer in most cases so I use a stereo spreader to widen it. I only starting using that spreader recently as well. That gives the drums some space to work around the actual song so it sticks out better. I can go on and on but that's a generic explanation of what I do. lol.... :) Hope that makes sense.
Definitely going to try these techniques out on my next video! It may seem to be a generic explanation but the result shows on video! Appreciate your time in sharing some of the techniques you use! Looking forward to more videos from you :)

Hi I'm a new drummer here I play snare for my high school and is it normal for the sticks to start to make a black line around the top

@@atthecross3581 yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s hard. It’s a pocket kind of song at the end of the day. So it’s just about feeling good.
Hey Eddy! Really love your mix bro! What kind of mixing technique did ya use? Cheers!

Can’t say it’s not possible 😂 That was from many years ago when I just started recording video so alignment and quality of video was not my forte. 😂
