I do believe Brave takes place in Scotland, which does have a strong Celtic identity. The pelt she's wear is her mother. And the king is wearing the pelt of his three sons that also got turned into bears. The blue flames are the wisps, they lead her to her destiny in the movie.
Additionally in ancient lore wisps would lead one to fated death. Normally this would be one’s Own death, but in a world where not only her mother, but her brothers were also slain by the father that refused to listen, and the men who followed him… her death can come later.

So an interesting fact about this: if you didn't notice, the wisps from the movie (creatures in Celtic folklore) are helping her. That's what the blue flames are. The wisps are supposed to lead people to their fate - so the fact that they're helping her here implies THIS is her destiny. This is what she was always meant to do.
The father wearing the triplet boys fur gets me, like he asking for it, srsly And the will’ o wisp leading her to so cool, they established in the movie that the will o wisp were the souls of their ancestors, the bear in the movie turns into one when his soul is freed, so the bear flame would have been her mother giving her the strength to do what needed to be done, and prolly her brothers were helping to lead the way for their revenge & they wouldn’t be doing that is what he did was a mercy thing.
Brave is indeed set in the times and local of the age of The Great Celtic Clans/Great Celtic Kings as it is sometimes known, albeit in the pixar/dreamworks world version of said area. This would have been before the unifying wars, but after the Times Of Great Divide. (At least as far as i ken it)
Her accent is so on point for Merida! (It's just a small theory though!)
I also like to add to this, she did block one of the men's sword with her bow, which gives me Horizon Forbidden vibes, I forgot the main characters name but Merida's style looks similar to me and I really adore the fact that the animator took some of that game as inspiration for making this adaptation of Merida

Man, this makes me think of "Braveheart"; after William Wallace was betrayed and got his revenge. Merida gaining the might of the bear after the loss of her mother and brothers. The blue flames are called Will-o'-the-wisp's.
