That was very interresting, because i didn't know that you need Brass for the Keyboard. I always thout springs are the only thing you need for the Keys to go up or down. And yes your Video was very helpful, now i know i need brass if I want to build my own Portative Organ.
@@nippocast oh thanks! i maybe use the other method with leather i think thats a bit cheaper. Because I don't want to spend to much money into the instrument because i don't know if i am finnishing it or if i make a mistake and the entire Portativ organ wont work. I start small.
Very interesting as always, thank you. Does the brass act as both a hinge and a spring? When I saw the bandsaw I thought, "Hmm I would have used some metal cutting shears" - but your second solution was even better :)
The hinge acts as a spring just enough to hold the key up. but there are those who use leather instead of brass and the weight of the key rests on the palet.
Hi Alejandro, thanks for the question. pressing the keys with these hinges alone requires about 10 / 15gr of weight, the rest of the weight I will adjust with the springs of the pallets
That was interesting: I thought springs (flat or coil) would be used for keys to return. What about "metal fatigue"? Will those brass hinges need to be replaced after a few months/years/decades? Or will their spring properties last? And BTW: funny that even a skilled craftsman can hurt a finger :-) Hope it heals well!
Hi Sir Synth, the brass hinges (hard-drawn brass) last for decades with this little amount of excursion, try to think about reeds, they vibrate hundreds of times per second and last for years. About the finger, it's even more funny because I hurt myself by taking off a shoe and not working😂
Hi guys! Another quite technical video, I hope it will be useful, the next will be the last one concerning the manual.

In fact there are those who use leather instead of brass and the weight of the key rests on the palet, they are two different methods.

@@animalistiktiero3835 OK, a thick strip of leather, at least 2 mm
very interesting, never thought the hinges would use bending!
Hi Gary8thomas, yes, it's hard-drawn brass

Ciao Massimo come state? Grazie!
Now you see the key bouncing a lot, but when the action and felt stops will be installed the key will stay still

@@nippocast Brass-info thanks! Finger&shoe: ROFL!!! Have a nice weekend!
would you even need to use hinges if you just used buttons as keys?
if you use buttons no hinges are needed
Ciao Nippocast, la lastra è di ottone? Comunque bel lavoro!
Ciao e grazie. si, è ottone crudo, per rimanere elastico.
Grazie! Invece lo spessore quanto è?
Cleaver. The hinges have "no moving parts" as they say.
Di che materiale è fatto la linguetta in metallo?
Ciao Angelo, è di ottone crudo
