I’m organizing my garage after buying my grandfather’s house and inheriting all his tools and it’s soooo satisfying! I can’t tell you how many duplicate tools I’ve found because he was never the most organized and would buy what he couldn’t find. And there’s something so satisfying about utilizing pegboards. I can’t wait till it’s done!
I have to be in the 'zone' and in the mood when i organize cause it usually takes a lot of brain power, Having someone else do it who isnt emotionally attached and is just doing it for logistics purposes is awesome. I imagine her business is booming
My dad had his work shop in the garage. The garage was a car and a half wide; so, could really only hold one car; but, he built the cabinetry and the work bench. The work bench was built in a way that it could fold up out of the way and fastened with a clip to the wall. He and my mom built the garage and he opted to not put wallboard up. He could use the cross beams that fastened to the studs as extra shelving. The one thing that I remember him building was a multi tier carousel that could turn. I don't know how many baby food jars it held; but, he fastened the lids to the jars to the bottom of each disk. Then he would keep small items in the jars, like extra screws, nuts and bolts, nails, and the like. He was pretty creative.
We did this one day in August. The garage had so many cabinets and drawers and things were just tossed everywhere. It took almost the whole day but I can't tell you how nice it's been when I need something to go right to the drawer and it's there.
It looks like the tools & supplies section of a nursery, which is probably a good thing. I need to think like a store manager for the stuff in my life.
I never thought as much about taking everything out of the boxes to be able to find/grab it easier at home! Which is funny, because I helped maintain a workplace inventory of all kinds of supplies for years, and that’s exactly what we did to make stuff easier to grab and fit into our tiny space more efficiently.
life is multi faceted and i liked seeing this side of your garden/homestead adventure. We all have areas that are easy and areas that are hard so its good to see how others solve their life issues.
I'm someone who loves organising and being organised but tends towards chaos when I get caught up, so removing friction is super important for me. if I could give one piece of advice to anyone doing a big cleanout or making tweaks to their system: anticipate your needs!! - if you habitually put something down somewhere... make it place for it there so it always has a home. - if you often use several tools together or when moving around the workspace in general, stick them in a basket! - if you plan to acquire more stuff, make sure there's a way for that storage to grow or shift to adapt. hooray for pullout bins! - the wall space and visibility thing is major! having indications for 'zones' (or even just colour coding stuff) makes life so much easier when you're tired.
I love to organize, but it is painful getting there. I was transferred to a new location for my work and we had a huge warehouse/garage that was a mess. I told my new co-worker, “you are going to hate me”, he asked, why? & I told him we were emptying the building, cleaning it, and then organizing everything! He ended up having fun
Great video, I've always wanted to see the cooking aspect of all your harvest. I enjoyed the garlic and potatoes racks plus the freeze drier and dehydrating for storage, but want to see how you use your fresh produce
😲OMGOSH if this video isnt right on time🤦🏻♀️ smh...😅 I just got done telling my Hubby I have everything we need now to organize our stuff now!! This is motivating 😄👍
Great video! I've needed to organize my garage for so long I'm definitely stealing the floor to ceiling pegboard idea. I like the idea of a cooking vlog, have you thought of canning any of your crops? Make some of your garden salsa?
I currently did a remodel to my house and never realized that I had so much stuff until I started to take things out of the kitchen, closets, bedrooms, I mean, from every where. So many three or four things of the same items. Kitchen items that I didn’t remember I had. Everything was organized, but at the same time could not find or remember what I had. Now is all to a minimum and it feels great, I’m even more relaxed 😎 You guys did an awesome job, it looks great. I’m looking forward to what will happen at Jaqués 😊
What a dream come true! I was shocked when she even organized the garage as well ! Have you done a video of how to keep the shears sharpened and the rest of the tools clean?
This video has been inspiring for me as I have hoarding tendencies 😬. I would definitely like to see more varied videos including cooking. I don’t have a homestead but have a small home and decent sized yard. I don’t think homesteading is just about gardening - there’s more to it than that, like what you do with all the bounty of the garden. And for those of us who cannot garden year ‘round, other topics would be of interest.
I love it. My house is so disorganized while at the same time I am always organizing. Lol. The one thing I would do is if I had enough stuff to necessitate more shelving is to add one shelf in the middle because the shed is quite large and a lot of unused space in the middle and it appears there would be enough room to manuever around. Could be anchored to the ceiling.
Life changed when I discovered the Day Labor housecleaner had insane organizing skills. Five years now and she's allowed us to live like humans, not feral folk.
Love it, thanks for sharing! I have a shed that could use some serious help. I recently bought a yard tool rack and a pegboard kit, but I feel like it wasn't really enough. Seeing Amy's process, I think I need to move some shelves and storage bins back there, and really go ham with the peg boards.
All the things! You are such an inspiration in the garden, and your cooking experiments are fantastic to watch and see how they turn out. One that stands out to me is the EPIC sourdough bread you made with the famous Garden Hermit. It's a lot of fun to see what you come up with. Plus it gives me ideas on how to update/organize my own space. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the 'behind the scenes' of how it all gets done.
Having a system that can deal with something new (or seasonal stuff, etc) is the trickiest. It's one thing being an aircraft mechanic where every tool has its place, and something else entirely when tools and especially supplies are coming and going or completely changing. Hope this is a good flexible foundation for you!
This was very inspiring and helpful. I have pegboard that’s just sitting there unmounted on the walls, because I wasn’t really sure it would be helpful. But now I see exactly how and where I need to use it!
I cannot count the times that I've purchased something new when I already own 2 or 3 of the same item, which is a bit insane. I think I need to have a professional organizer step in and save me from myself!
@@epichomesteading My garage needs some help!! -_- Glad to see your space coming together.. AND the reality that we need to call on people who have strengths in areas where we're weak.
Love this! Am watching my daughter and partner unpack into a new apartment in a new state, so this is very timely. Would love to see some cooking vlogs, as your baking bread one was fantastic!!!
Yes videos like this are great.. and since you asked…. You can just video the day(s) in the life of you….you seem to make everyday life seem something else!,,,thanks for sharing.. I love how you showcase and lift up others.. cooking stuff would be fun to watch…just some ideas..
Oh man, this came at just the right time! I've been eying Waverly Organizing for a while, but every time I get ready to give them a call I remember I have broken every organizational system I've ever put in place. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet...
This would be my dream job, I already apply these techniques at home and in my tiny garden shed. They did an amazing job for you, you will definitely love using the system and if you apply the same thinking process you will be able to expand and remain organized.
They did a amazing job, that road bike you can hang from the ceiling with hooks to have even more space, i would hang my mountain bike with those hooks.
So, where do you put all your shovels and rakes, what happened to all your long tools? I can't tell if you ended up tossing them out, ran out of space, or need to build a new home for them too? It would be great to see an update...!
I need to do some major organizing...unfortunately, it's harder to get excited about it cause I don't have the funds to buy containers and such to get it done. Hopefully one day.
This type of content is awesome. I feel it still fits with your overall theme. Cooking would, too. You grow all that food so it'd be nice to see how it's used after it's harvested.
Hi. Consider outlining your tools on the peg board with a heavy magic marker, that way you n everyone else knows exactly where the tool goes or what is being used. She did a great job !! Peace to you and yours
the ''secret'' is that everything has its own space/place. When we remove something to use, put it back where it belongs. xD this way there will be no mess.
With those abilities I seriously need her to organize my life. And does anyone knows where can I buy blueberry plants online with international shipping? It's really hard to find it in my country Algeria and even harder to find an online shop that ships here so HELP please
I definitely need help from a pro. I get annoyed sometimes because finding all the tools and screws and materials for a project takes longer than making the damn thing
I'm a very organized person. My mother was German, and I was raised with the phrase "Ordnung muss sein"...i.e. there must be order, or everything has its place. My wife was not raised like this. 😬
