Over more than six decades, the people from the Western areas of the province of La Pampa in Argentina suffer a process of desertification. After the construction of the El Nihuil dam in San Rafael, in the upstream province of Mendoza, the flow of the Atuel River was interrupted for the province of La Pampa. This fact, that allows the irrigation of the south of Mendoza, triggered a process of impoverishment in the West of La Pampa, which is reflected in the lives of the local people. The protagonists tell us how they co-exist with the notion that there is a river that belongs to them but that they never saw flowing regularly, about the problems that they have confronted over the years as a result, and about the loss of the memory of the river water among the new generations.

Soy un muy "orgulloso padre" de todos mis hijos, y Valeria es la segunda de mis cuatro bellos hijos, por lo cual seguramente pierdo objetividad, pero simplemente quiero decir que hasta ahora nunca había visto un documental donde se conjugue, con tanta armonía y objetividad periodística, una denuncia testimonial con un mensaje esperanzador con mucha belleza plástica y sensibilidad social.

Parece una historia de ciencia ficción, no puede ser que un estado provincial se apodere del agua en desmedro y perjuicio de otro estado provincial. El cause de un rio debe seguir toda su trayectoria desde el nacimiento hasta la desembocadura. Ningun estado o particular debería realizar obras que alteren o disminuyan su caudal.
