I do both (and also snow and wakeboarding) and I'm not so sure about the "WAY" harder but one thing I'm 100% sure of is that skateboarding hurts a LOT more and it's WAY scarier than wakeskating when trying to go big (water vs concrete probably ;). Actually to me skateboarding is technically the most difficult of all of these sports. But I just love them all.. same spirit!

Wakeskates get their pop from building pressure against the water. You wouldn't nose dive either unless you kicked the shit outta the very tip of the board. If your feet were in nollie position and ollied it would still pop from middle/back of board but not very high.
