Hey, love your videos! I've been drawing for last two weeks non stop using your tutorials. Geometric patterns have suddenly become important to me again. It's like they've always been there in the background but now feels right to start creating with them. In a world of madness, I need to return to what makes sense - the fundamentals of reality itself.
I was trying to draw a Celtic knot circle and finally searched “how to divide a circle” and found your VERY HELPFUL video. I've watched others of yours and am amazed at what you create. Thank you!
Excellent tutorial. Quick and to the point. I make custom jewelry and I’m working on a ring for a client that will have a checkerboard pattern of “cells” to be filled with black and white enamel. I’ve already made the ring (11mm wide) with the outer walls and a raised inner line down the center making two “tenches.” I made a rubber mold of that ring and now have a wax copy of it to work in further. I’m needing to divide the circumference evenly into square cells. This video will make it simple and precise. I’ll draw it out on paper and then mark my divisions in my wax model so I can inlay perfectly sections of wax wire. Thank you!
Lookup "Clickspring dividing plate". He shows a technique that lets you divide a number into any number of equal segments, using a self correcting method where you walk along the perimeter of the circle
Perfect! I need to create a template for drilling points around a wooden circle for my wife, who needs it for the rope baskets she makes. This will be the "bottom", and must be sewn in using the drilled holes around the wooden circle! Now, thanks to your vid, I can do any size she needs, and not be restricted to one size only. Perfect! (again)
Gracias mil !! Eres un genio a mis ojos, no solo por esta explicacion, tus videos me han llevado de vuelta a la geometria que era lo unico que me gustaba de la clase de matematicas. Pero no solo eso, tambien de vuelta al arte y a la creatividad. ❤
Thanks for this, I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point! I was watching an old King Crimson video and Bill Bruford had a bottom hi-hat with ripples around the edge and I wondered how one would lay that out. I work in the trades so always open to new geometry tips, thanks!
I have struggled with how to divide a circle for a long time and you made it so easy. Thank you. I also enjoy your videos, they are so relaxing to watch.
My buddy wants me to draw him a compass for a tattoo and I’ve got a compass but I’ve just been trying to eyeball it to make the segments. None have been perfect and it has been driving me nuts. This video was exactly what I needed. Thank you a million.
Nice video with easy to follow instructions. I need this because I'm making a guitar and need to figure out how many tiles (and how big to make them) I need for the decorative rosette around the sound hole!
I became hooked on your videos a few weeks ago. You are amazing and so inspiring!! I LOVE doodling with mandalas but what I struggle with is drawing petal shapes - if you know what I mean. A tutorial on that would be useful. It calms my mind just watching you draw and love hearing what you have to say. Please please keep them coming. Namaste x
thank you for this refresher... 35 years since I learned how to do this, never used it before. I'm about to glue magnets onto a cd, glue that onto an old cd burner spindle motor, and create an induction heater. low electrical usage, and I already have plenty of energy generation/storage systems set up for projects like this
I have been following you for a while now and have completed 6 of the seven Chakra designs using your guidance. I came here to find out how to segment a circle into 36 equal parts. 32 is close but not quite what I need.
Thank you for the simple and easy to follow instruction. I need to layout and mark a drum shell into eight segments for drilling and installing the tensioning lugs. This method is perfect for this application.

really nice work, but how do I go about it if I want to make 26 for an alphabetical pie? 13 on each side won't line up with halving each section. Any tips?
easy on paper, not easy on computer draw programs. like google draw. Thinking of designing a cylindrical building. using 2'x12' metal sheeting as siding (usually used on roofs) so every 2' on center there would be a stud forming a circle using 36 pieces. Interior drywall or other material could be used making 8' wide walls by skipping every 2 studs. This would provide a interior diameter of about 19' (just guessing now). The area behind the spans could be used for built in TVS, speakers, books, all manner of storage. There would be a central column to support the roof, around which you would have a mass heater and water heater. Should be able to use fireplace to heat water. Water heater would be placed up slightly with catch basin underneath and drainage pipe to outside in case of leakage. Divide interior as desired, could make it a 2 story structure. Roof could be solar panels or as it is circular you even have a crane to hoist things up to 2nd floor outside stairs, balconies, vacuum elevator even basement all sorts of possibilities. I think it would use less materials of redundant shapes and sizes making it cost less and easier to assemble. Plus inherent strength of cylinder to survive weather.
That is lovely, however, how to divide a circle that needs 26 segments (for alphabet). Not do-able as per this example because half of the circle needs to be divided into 13 on either side, which is an odd number... Would love to know how to do a 26'er if you know how pls.

Let's set the circle radius to 1 unit. The Chord length is equal to 2 x sine (360÷14)°. The Chord length is .8678 units for a circle divided into 7 segments. Of course this is also why protractors and verier protractors were developed. When l was working as a Tool Maker l needed a special indexing block for 7 divisions. Making it required a special tool with a 51.4286° angle. Which required other specific tools to make. An accurate angle plate, sine bar and gage blocks. The indexing block came out accurate to .00005" between all 7 sides to the centerline.
