I read all my competitor comment sections and contact the people directly who express interest in their products. I do this daily and refresh constantly to be able to isolate their client for myself. that way, they pay for my marketing in a way and its a cool free way for me to get extra customers. I also make sure my prices are lower.
I am not sure I follow the difference in the two methods-in audience insights also, you input jon loomer and that comes up as an interest while the whole idea of the second method is if yur competitor does not come up as an interest? what am i missing here? I get the additioanl inights in method two but I dont know how that works if my competitor is not coming up as an interest. confused!
Hey Ben, thanks for your video. Your second method is not working as the "smaller business" doesn't appear neither under the interest field... Any suggestion?
This doesn't make sense.. You cant search for Jon loomer in the ads manager if he wasn't an eligible search interest in the first place. so for example, If I want to target people who like a certain skydiving page and its not an interest then I still cant type it into the ads manager . So how would I then target people who have liked a page that doesnt come up as an interest
I knew about the first tip... but the second one was mind blowing. Thanks for sharing that! I found a ton of my friends and clients in other pages I had not heard of before. Thanks for this!
Hello there! Really bang-on video, thanks! I can compare the traffic of my competitors' websites, Google and Facebook ads and much more with the WASK competitor analysis tool. I am always one step ahead of my competitors by creating the right advertising strategy!
Hey Liked your video but coudlnt follow it fully because the interface you are using has many options but mine doesnt have any things like location, page likes and all that. Please upload a new video with the updated interface of Ads manager
Hi Ben!!! Thank you so much for all your videos, they are massively helpful! I was wondering if you could make an updated video of this please? That would be wonderful, thanks again ♥ Love from Ecuador
Great info Ben, thanks. Another way is to buy pop traffic targeting Google keyword search terms and use this as a custom audience. Desktop only, one in three users will be logged in to FB.
Great video! Has helped me with additional page targeting options, but I can't seem to find the in depth details you can see on your interface in option 2. I can only see gender and age, locations and pages liked. This is in the Audience Insights section. If you could let me know how to find this level of detail in the new interface that would be great! Also, a competitor didn't show up in the interests section despite having tens of thousands of followers on their page. Is there a setting you can select for pages so they can't be seen through targeting? TIA
You can also work out WHO your competitors are targeting with Facebook Ads. Check out this video next for the details: ruclips.net/video/rtZKUBE0eF4/видео.html
Hi, setup 1 add on facebook, I have put 25e budget for 7 days, after first day i spent 1.5e,reached 5k people and facebook added 4e fee for reaching so many people. What is confusing i got 4 emails for that 1 add, one email in space of few hours, does that mean i will be charged 25e four times now?
The 2nd method is merely an extension of the first method. If there's no page or info in detailed targeting then you can't find the same info in audience insight.
The audience insight option is very nice :) I used a Google extension called " insight hero " and when you search on audience insight, it put in red the one you can't target and blue the ones you can :p
Glad it was helpful! My channel is growing all the time and it will get there, it just takes years to build a large audience in this space. But if you want to help speed that up I always appreciate a share and people spreading the word :)
Thanks Ben. Great value and awesome video. What facebook Ad strategy would you recommend for a serviced Accommodation or Holiday Let kind of business? Thanks in advance.
This video opened my eyes. I just want to know while using audience insights, when selecting relationship, education, should i choose only the variables in green colors with positive signs e.g +80%. Secondly, i want to draw traffic to my Spotify profile, i guess i should use the campaign objective "traffic"?
Hi Ben, great information 👍 quick question.... is doing fb ads by Boosting a post the same as going to Ads manager and creating an Ad from there in your opinion, Any info would be appreciated Barry.
Not really although there is some overlap. You would most likely see better results using Ads Manager - you have much more functionality there. Hope that helps :)
How would you do the 2nd option on the new version of Facebook? My audience insights doesn't provide me with anything other than my current insights, I cant find this targeted route to create an ad?
But if a page doesn't come up as an interest in detailed targeting how would it come up as an interest in audience insights? Don't both areas give you access to the same set of targetable pages?
thank you. what would you recommend for items that you will buy as a gift for other (e.g. you buy a gift for new parents) how would you target this because everybody could be the person who buy that gift for the parents.
In that case I would try to focus on lookalike audiences if you have the custom audiences to create them. If not, you can still start by targeting with interests as you usually would.
Great insight, Ben. What do you think of targeting competitor audience and enabling "expand your detailed targeting". Will that act like "broad lookalikes of competitor" and a good source of cold traffic? Thanks Ben.
Thanks for your video. The second option didn't work for me and I believe it doesn't work as you describe it? I wish it did! If the competitor doesn't come up as an option to select as targeted audience in ads manager it doesn't either come up as an interest in audience insights and therefore I can't see the likes and all of that. You use Loomer so you had no problem there but if you chose a smaller business that doesn't come up in Facebook ads manager that business won't come up in the insight section either :S
Thank you for the video! This is great. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me as none of my competitors come up. Are there other tools out there that might accomplish the same thing.?
Hi, if the name doesnt show up at Interests in Audience section, how can you get the relevant info? you type jon loomer and then were able to get info about similar pages, but if jon loomer wasnot come up there, what would you do to get info from audiences? thanks
You can actually see some part of the target when your competitors ad appears on Facebook. When this happens, go to the 3 dots in the top right corner of the ad and click on “Why am I seeing this ad?”. There you’ll see a few insights of that ad target audience.
hi, great content. I have a question, suppose I use Facebook ads traffic, to generate visits to my page ok. The question is, how can I use the ad information to improve facebook inside?
Hi Ben. It seems that the second strategy doesn't work in some countries like Brazil, as most competitors don't appear and when they do no data shows up unter "page likes". Can you please advise? thanks.
Hey Ben, love your content!!! Just one thing, when creating a custom audience comprised of my competitors customers is there no way of creating an audience comprised of the followers of my competitor's Instagram page. It seems strange that when facebook finds all its users that have an interest in my competitor's business it just looks for all those users on facebook that have liked my competitor's business page. Why doesn't it include all those instagram users that have followed my competitor's instagram page. Really odd that facebook doesn't include those people. It seems there is a huge pool of people that facebook could be using that have been left out especially as instagram is becoming more popular then facebook and many people who have an interest in my competitor's business are probably on instagram and not facebook.
hey Ben, great video. Is this option only available in a few countries like US,UK ? As I can not find any German sites at all even though they got 80k+ followers?!
Great video. Knew about both methods but never needed to use them. I tried the second method with a very large competitor that is known around the world and have 1.7 million followers and they don’t show up?
Hi Ben, I want to say Thank You for your great videos here. Can I ask if there is one (I suspect there is and I can't find it!) that shows how one gets to the analysis or results of the pixel data, please? Very happy with your method of explaining things - quick, precise and to the point. Mark.
im so annoyed because its been a year and FB changed the audience setting completely, i am not sure where i can search for the competitors and get the insights
Thanks for making this video Ben, really helps a lot. Quick question, what type of campaign objectives do you think are the most relevant to use when it comes to targeting competitors customers? Am I right to say Conversion related objectives are pretty irrelevant in this case?
Thanks a lot - glad to hear it. I would most likely use a conversions campaign - that's what I would still be after at the end of the day. If you are working with a massive budget then you could go with brand awareness.
Question Sir: If you send to your messenger subscribers a link to your video post, will they be included in VIDEO VIEWS if they just view the video inside messenger? like when you create a CUSTOM AUDIENCE for retargeting? Cos the video is shown inside messenger when you send the link.
Thanks Chris. In that case you may not be able to target their competitors unfortunately. This is not a technique that will work for every business. My recommendation would be to stick the largest competitors possible.
Hey Ben, GREAT VIDEO 1 question, Would you recommend combining the 2-3 interest similar to your competitors to get to an audience of 1,000,000 assuming each interest has a 333k audience? I know you would typically suggest looking at one interest group so results are not overlapping but in a scenario where your interest group will be too small, how do you feel?
Great video, thanks! Is it possible that due to local or regional laws, me here in the netherlands is not allowed to target anything but pages with millions of followers (instead of a few thousand)? I entered pages of huge companies that have hunderds of thousands of followers, but i am not able to add them directly. Am i doing something wrong? If not, is there a way around it?
Hi Ben, I want to target competitors. Do you suggest including competitors in the campaign for generic audience or a separate campaign/ad set for targeting competitors ?
Hi Melissa, you are very welcome :) For most business, yes I would. But not everyone has previous customers, email lists, etc. to create lookalike audiences from. Also, you can always test both options and see which works best for you.
Hey Ben, i have been watching your videos and learning a lot. You post so helpful content. I have started my small e-commerce business so i am following your videos for fb ads. I try to use this strategy but page like who shows up in audience insight, doesn’t show up in targeting search. Any solution for that?
I'm really struggling with this as none of my competitors come up on either option. I selling content templates for beauty brands, do you have any suggestions?
Hi Ben, thanks for this. My issue is that my competitors don't show up in audience insights (too small perhaps?) what can I do in this instance? Many thanks, Olivia
You may not be able to use this technique if that's the case. Otherwise I would try to find the largest competitors possible as they are more likely to show up
Hi Ben, i'm new to your channel, and this is the first video ever i have seen. And i think it's great man! Thank you so much for being so clear on so many things. I still do have a few questions. If i may: 1. If you target, with option number 1, for instance Jon loomer. Could you also target another one of your competitors. Or would you make that a different Ad- set? 2. At around 10:07, i see interest, additional interest and behaviour. I'll look after this video, but what is the main differerence between those 3 things? 3. And last one. For the second option you targetted Facebook For Business and Mari
That's awesome - glad to hear it. 1) I would make another ad set for a different interest targeting option 2) So an interest is something that someone is interested in and a behavior is something someone actually does. So you could be interested in small business or be a small business owner. 3) I think this question might have been cut off.
@@BenHeath Yes it was! Thank you for telling me. And first off all, thank you for your answers! What i meant was, do you set them both in your targetting, or do you make a different ad set? Just like the first question. Now, my best guess is to make a different adset.
Excuse me but there is something that I don't understand. If Jon Loomer would not already appear in the interests, how would I end up finding out that Mari Smith is a related interest?
Hi Ben, Thanks for your great video. I have a question. Does this also apply for instagram. My audience is more on instagram than facebook. But can you target your competitors customers on instagram?
