Program note by Kees Wieringa on the premiere night in 1986: Solo Duiveldans is basically meant to be played by one soloist, but does not exclude more musicians, either simultaneously, or the one after the other. There are sections (or bars or groups of bars) in the composition that must/can/may be repeated. The number of repeats depends on the opinion of the musicians. Watching live videos of the 9/11 attacks, the only expressions you can hear all around you, as the planes hit the towers, are 'Jesus fuckin’ christ!' and 'Holy shit!', repeated a thousand times. United States culture is so limited, and yet it's the most powerful nation on earth. I fear it portends the end of the world, sooner rather than later.
