    Glad I watched! About to do my 1100. And mine is heavily modified. Looking at the directions with the hot rod kit seemed like way too much extra work. I'll do this in a few minutes after I eat a snack lol. My pitboss has a race car header for a stack. Moroso valve cover from a sprint car as a baffle above the stack. A-arms for bracing. My race shop logo engraved in a live end hardwood bench. Used roll cage tubing to build the frame. A rod from a blown race engine as a backstop for the lid. And a big aluminum afco shock for a lid handle. Cook on it almost daily. First trouble in 3 years.

    My igniter went out. I called pit boss and they said mine was out of warranty and a year and a 1/2 old. They wanted 50 bucks plus shipping for a new igniter. When on Amazon purchased an igniter for $14! It looks identicle and works great period! Switch out was easy don't forget to remove the rubber grommet that makes it really hard To get the igniter out..and tape a string to the igniter when you go to pull it back through! Great video

    Just finished completing the igniter replacement on my pit boss Casey combo and I would like to offer a couple of deviations from this procedure. I found that in my case it was easier to remove the fan motor by unscrewing the four screws holding it and dropping it down out-of-the-way that way you can put your hand up in to the cavity and thread igniter cable connector through the rubber grommet hole much easier. also you need to make sure you pull the cables tight so that you don’t have access cable up near the fan blade and make sure the cables out of the way of the fan blade. I also installed a master kill switch at the same time in the powerline so that I could shut the Casey combo power off to the unit and it does not keep running all the time and that way you do not have a parasitic draw of current 24 seven.

    Hey there Bummer, thanks again for another great video and info. I’ve thought several times about contacting you. We both bought our Pit Boss smokers around the same time and my igniter went out on mine also about a month ago. Going to replace mine tomorrow and like you said, have watched several videos on how to do it. I like your idea the best, using the wire method to string the new one into place. I hope this isn’t going to be an every 8 month repair. I called Pit Boss and they were very helpful. My igniter went out a week before Thanksgiving and I was really bummed out Bummer lol, because I have always hickory smoked our Thanksgiving turkey. They told me how to use the grill without the igniter by putting a small handful of pellets in the burn pot and using hand sanitizer to light the pellets. Not kidding you! lol. I didn’t like that idea so I went back to my old method of paraffin wood wafers and a stick lighter. Worked great and our turkey was the talk of the family. I used the Apple pellets for something different and like I said, it came out great.
    Why I’ve been wanting to contact you, is to see if you figured out that you can’t use the 3 2 1 method of doing Ribs on our smokers. With the constant flow of air from the fan, it’s like baking in a convection oven. Everything cooks faster. The turkey I did was a 24 pounder and it was done in 3 1/2 hrs. In my old smoker, it would have been 5 to 6 hrs. if not more. Hope I have helped you out for a change. Thanks again buddy and hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Give that lovely little food taster of yours a Christmas gift and tell her that it’s from a crippled up old man from Buffalo NY. lol

      Have tried the 3-2-1 method several times on ribs at 225....and think it's just a little to much.....I like fall off the bone, but they can almost be pulled pork..thinking abut trying a 2-2-1 at 225.....hope you and you family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year......and reach out anytime.

    I've had to replace 2 already. The first one i believe i installed it wrong and left all of the igniter in the fire pot. This time I stuck it out a 1/4 of an inch. Hope that works better/longer.

    • @BUMMERSBARBQ
      @BUMMERSBARBQ  3 года назад

      The "Control Panel" or the cover for the Po??????? the control panel is only a couple of clips on the inside if the box/hopper..........You have to take the bottom off, not very hard.

    • @BUMMERSBARBQ
      @BUMMERSBARBQ  5 лет назад

      Probably best to get it from Pit Boss if it's under warranty and get it for free, or you buy from Pit Boss.....but I also ordered a spare igniter from Amazon that is identical to the one Pit Boss sent me.

    Your motor and fan area is spotless, looks like it’s brand new, how do you keep it that way when your hot rod is used so much it needs replaced? I clean my pot boss 820D every 3 smokes unless it a long one then sooner and also clean the fan and motor area twice a year and it’s a mess.
