tyvm for the quick turnaround! just 2 points to clarify - wired PCB does support VIA; ISO is dropped out due to the right screw hidden inside the case as an unfortunate compromise
I might have become jaded with the whole custom keyboard group buy culture, but having a group buy interval of 2 weeks during which people can basically order unlimited amount of boards sounds pretty good to me. Miles better than those pesky raffles and FCFS's that go out of stock in 30 seconds. P.S. the editing and music choice really emits a vox vibe lol. Hope you get noticed.
Amazing video, super in depth and I love the discussion element. I just joined the JRIS65 GB and I think I’m going to join this one as well. The budget scene has really been blowing up and I love it. I really enjoy mechanical keyboards as a hobby but as a student who doesn’t have the money to buy $300+ dollar boards, innovation within the budget space is always welcome.
The watch analogy was actually pretty eye opening for me considering I'm new to the watch hobby, and have been in the keyboard hobby for many years at this point. I've thought about it but never put the two together.
never ceases to amaze me, the level of quality that you're able to provide this space. still considering if i should get this or just hold out on another 65 (like the hibiki) D: amazing video!! the qk60 looks amazing too, i love the two-tone materials.
I really like how you show the process of finding a preferable combination of switches and plates for your build. You show a part of this hobby that some content creators tend to gloss over: Fine tuning and personalization. Not everyone has a perfect plan from the get go on cases/kits that are pretty fresh to the scene. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this, good work, keep it up :>
Really appreciated the exploration of the balance between value, stock, and innovation. As someone who was into watches long before mechanical keyboards, I definitely saw a familiar pattern forming, in terms of tastes and attitudes. The debates around clone keycaps were especially familiar. This has been a fact of life for all luxury goods for ages, and I'd argue some amount of it is healthy. It'll be interesting to see if keyboards evolve similarly -- a la, the difference between homage and replica watches. Anyway, this is the most I thought about these comparisons, and it's thanks to you dedicating time to that exploration.
while i understand the notion of not stocking boards, when you have such a high demand for a product like the qk65 it only makes sense to at least have extra units on standby especially when its a "budget" option....i myself wanted one but i missed the date so i just got something else and im sure many others did the same so its a missed opportunity for qwertykeys
at 9:07 you used a Grand Seiko watch to represent a budget quartz watch. when in fact Grand Seikos are the premier Seiko watches and are very much not budget.
Do you feel like alu top would help improve the sound? I'm contemplating whether to go with interesting smokey plastic top, or go full alu build. Awesome video and really feel that connection with watches. You can also compare it to the recent boom of microbrands in watches. New players who are more dynamic and take more risk than the old players when designing new watches and usually at a more competitive price point.
@@Isaacthedank thanks haha, got the PC top for more uniqueness and sound. In the meanwhile tho I've also got link 65 so will have both full alu and mix covered up 😅💪
I noticed that you bought the pink one? How true-to-color is it compared to the renders? I'm kinda scarred with how Zoom65 turned out in terms of render vs reality. Thanks!
It’s a plate support fork! It keeps the plate in the proper position while I push switches in. Not necessary for an alu plate, but since this one was a bit tight, it tended to want to go down with the switches.
Do Owlab release plate files? I would love a lot less flex than that. It's a great option if you are entering the hobby and want to tell owners of TGR that your board is better.
"I don't have final packaging so everything is just in a cardboard box". Nah bro, thats the final packaging. My QK65 came the same way. LOL. Great video though.
I was under the impression that Owllabs stabs (Liquid metal) was one of the best stab options out there with no wire tuning needed? Im new to this hobby so i can only say wht i have previously tried. Any other better stab options I would love to try new ones
@@figgletinkle Im experiencing all the issues you listed above, after building 4 boards I thought i was my stab tuning and mod skills. Ill for sure give TX a try. Unfortunately i bought 4 packs of owl stabs after getting sucked in by marketing
There's a new almost-perfect not-that-budget keyboard every week tbh, gonna come back in 2 years or so to check what the market looks like. IMHO, thock is a meme and most pretenders are just dull, dead sounding keebs. Gaskets are not that great either. VIA is an absolute must. Things will change, we might see some nice clacky boards with fr4 plates and via in some time. Personally I don't like the qk60 sound at all vOv.

It's a shame that we ISO users are so often left out. I would love to have the GK60, but definitely not as an ANSI layout.

This feels more like an educational vi-doc instead of a standard product review, and I am here for it! Very well done, reminded me of Lemmino

All these budget boards you can't purchase.
we simply underestimated the quantity and moved forward to other layouts like qk60 etc - can't please everyone at once
at 9:07 you used a Grand Seiko watch to represent a budget quartz watch. when in fact Grand Seikos are the premier Seiko watches and are very much not budget.
What's the point of removing keys if you're going to criple the layout by adding and extra key afterwards?
Not like it makes the board any smaller..
Hey, just want to say great job with the summary at the end regarding accessibility and luxury
Great video guys! The details, styling and information!
I really really like my qk65 but this seems interesting, the only thing is that I don't like the colors 😢. They need to do a dark blue
you are the best keyboard youtuber
i love your style !!
You mentioned that you are not a big fan of owlstabs, could you explain why and what stab you would recommend?

Your editing reminds me of Vox, really impressive and informative 👍

Alu increases the build quality and weight but pc top is cheaper but better sounding.

This almost felt like a documentary at the end there dang
QK60 feels definitely more refined!
Great Review as always.
Hey what‘s the song during 3:12? It‘s really epic! Would love to know :)
What would be the best foam config for this board?
Is the pcb 1.2 or 1.6 mm thick? Was wondering which tx stabs I should grab! Great video!
1.2 !

what about the jris65? is it better??
@2:41 the white stick between plate and pcb. what's that?

Yes, we take a lot of inspiration from vox’s motion graphics.
