  • Hello sewing friends! Today I am sharing my sewing room before and after! We moved into a new apartment almost two months ago, and I haven't been able to get in here and sew because this space has been a total DISASTER. I finally tackled this space and got everything in its place. Now I have the sewing room of my dreams: clean, organized, functional, and peaceful.
    I'll also share a few of my sewing room organization tips--how to store all those little notions and patterns and FABRIC! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think, or if you have any questions about the items shown in this video :) Thanks for watching!

    You did an excellent job. I love to watch videos of how people put together their sewing space. It gives me ideas. However, most of them go into to much detail as to where they put each tiny little item and how they came up with their ideas. You truly gave us an overall look at the room. Where your placed your furniture and why it works for you, with just enough detail to make it interesting. Thank you.🥰

      Thank you so much! Oh, I had a lot more I filmed 😂 so hard to narrow down what to show so it's not too granular! But I'm with you, I like more of a general overview, too, for projects like this! Thanks for watching :)

    Fantastic space! I put all my patterns in large envelopes, like you do, but I have mine in the large fabric bins that go with the kallax unit. The fit perfectly! I also organize those by woven and knits, one bin each. Ikea is a wonderland for creative people! Congratulations on a welcoming work and creation zone!

    We have so many similar items in our sewing rooms! I also have an old industrial machine that at some point I should probably get rid of... and the same ikea trestle desk! I have a built in wardrobe along one wall, one wall is windows, the third wall has a door into the bathroom.... I moved into this place about three months ago, and I set up the space pretty quickly, but now that I've actually gotten to sewing.... it needs a bit of work for organisation... I'm constantly moving things around, not finding what I need, not having the space to put things in-between times... I'm on a bit of a sewing room organisation binge at the moment! This has started me off well, however, so thankyou!!

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  2 года назад

      Too funny! There are a few things I might move around now that I've been working in my new space, too. Hard to know for sure until you get into the thick of it! Thanks for watching! :)

    That Kenmore will probably still be sewing strong long after your computerized models will have died an (expensive) death. I'd hang onto it. I replaced my $$$ computerized model with a 1961 Rocketeer when it kicked the bucket way too early. I love it!

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  2 года назад

      Oh yeah, that thing is a beast!! My Pfaff is not computerized and I really prefer that. The Kenmore sews great, but it just doesn't have the same precision/control/speed that I can get with my Pfaff. So I sew primarily on the Pfaff. But it is nice to have the Kenmore as a backup for sure!

    Just discovered your channel recently and I am binging your videos right now!! Lol! I have been a novel sewist since I was about 7 years old and I asked momma to teach me! I am now 51! I have always wanted to learn pattern drafting and even bought a few books on the subject. The one by McCunn “How to make sewing patterns “ seems like a good one but I haven’t really tried it. Thanks for your suggestions on books!! Happy sewing 💜

    Your room looks great. Spray some Pledge on the window tracks, it should help with the sticking windows and make them easier to open. (Depending on how bad they are, you may need to spray a few times, opening and closing the windows in between each application).

    Lovely to listen to you like the tip on putting fabric onto card, mine is a total mess atm, can you tell me how to make the cord bowl ?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching! The cord bowls are super easy--I should eventually do a tutorial on those! Just coiling the rope and sewing them together on the machine (I bet there are tutorials here on youtube).

  • @Escape10mom
    @Escape10mom 2 года назад +1

    Looks great! Do you have a pattern or video on those rope baskets?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  2 года назад +3

      Thank you! I don't have one off the top of my head and was actually thinking while making this that I should do a video on the process! If you search how to sew a rope basket here on RUclips I think there are several tutorials. They are pretty easy! I got the cotton rope from an online store called Knot and Rope Supply and have also used fabric scraps wrapped around the rope (the one my plant is in).
