Great video Michael! I have a suggestion that saves some time & the results are great. Next time you need to cut a woven strap , use your little torch to heat a small nail held in your vice grips to cherry red. Use the nail to cut the strap. This produces the sealed edge you are looking for & is very easy. This method is also very useful to put holes in straps if needed. Love your videos - keep on building!

I will be adding this mod to my teardrop too. I have the old school crank out windows & they swing out too far & hit the aluminum body. Thanks Ed for the Idea & Camp & Camera for sharing. Love your channel ! Cheers from California

Yea! Jeep Wranglers (at least the one I had back in 1998) used the strap method to keep the doors from swinging open.

I just put a couple of rubber bumpers on the outside to keep the door from swinging all the way. I can see the advantage of this though, in that you don't have to put any additional holes in the outside of the camper.

I’ve yet to try it in the wild, but in the garage it’s working well. I hope they hold up well.

Hey Mike. David here... another great video ( of coarse). One more thing you might want to consider is the force that the strap exerts on your aluminum door trim. Too much torque may bend the trim and allow water to get in while you’re going down the road if it’s raining. Happy camping

    Hi,
Love your take on the teardrop. Build came out great.
Just interested on how comfortable in regards to temperature your camper is compared to a camper with single sheet wall.

On that lite Wt door you're probably fine. On bigger doors , or if a big wind catches that door. Anyway to the point. Seatbelt strapping is the STUFF of legends. I've used it on my old 50s 60s farm trucks that the metal thing gets worn out on , then the door can hit the fender. Seatbelt strapping never seems to stretch or rot. You took a little more pride installing yours than I did mine in something that was gonna haul overloaded loads with tho for sure 😃👍

  • @rexford71

Might want to consider doing 2 per door to save on wear and tear on the one strap, plus it helps you hide the other set of t nuts 🤷🏻‍♂️😎

Good idea but not new , should have asked him where he got the idea from , old cars used them , I had a 60's and late 80's dodge van used them to keep doors from opening to far and also had pins so u can unhook strap to allow door to fully open...
