    For correct calibration, please check hard and soft iron adjustment.

    Nice video!
    Reading QMC6310 datasheet, it informs a sensitivity of 15000 LSB/G in the field range of +/- 2 G. Could you specify more on how to calculate the magnetic field amplitude? Thanks!

      Find the magnitude of the three-dimensional vector: amplitude = sqrt( x^2 + y^2 + z^2)

      @@MichaelRuppe Your equation is correct to give the magnitude of the field vector, but not exactly what I was asking for. After some reading, I figured it out.

    how effective could you use a magnetometer, and 3 axis aligned electromagnets (coils) (preferably on the same core) to get dead reckoning of that object in 3space?

      Like all involved project - it depends! We can see that there's a pretty clear correlation between field strength and the raw reading on an axis.
      I guess the tricky part would be coming up with an appropriate trilateration algorithm. The field will change wildly depending on the magnet's pose - if the magnet is rotated in place the data will change, but the location will not... tricky!

    This video is very misleading. They do not calibrate Magnetometers. They just show the difference when between a calibrated and an uncalibrated magnetometer. What a waste of 10 mins of my life
