- Mark Graham, New Zealand's player of the century, New Zealand's sports hall of fame inductee, Otahuhu Player of the Century, Auckland Rugby League Immortal, and Australian Rugby League Hall of fame inductee. These are merely some of the outstanding achievements in the career of a man who most people in rugby league circles would say is New Zealand's greatest of all time.
As a man of faith, growing up in Otahuhu, Mark Graham proudly played for the Otahuhu Leopards before making the star-studded 1977 Auckland side that defeated Australia, England, and France in the space of 20 days.
Mark won a premiership with Brisbane Norths, played for the proud North Sydney Bears, as well as captaining his country on numerous occasions, and played in the 18 - 0 victory over the Kangaroos in 1985. He played for Wakefield Trinity, and went on the Coach the Auckland Warriors for 2 seasons in the National Rugby League.

This is a fabulous interview. I met and shared a beer with Mark back in 1986 and it was a thrill to hear his stories of growing up in Auckland and learning his craft. Thank you very much for this.
Mate you're welcome. And it's a privilege to have interviewed Mark!! Thanks for watching!

Great to hear some of those stories. As an Aussie kid in the 80’s I used to think Mark Graham was a legend amongst those kiwi players.
Wow, thanks so much for watching and commenting. It was amazing to chat with MG. Was a super star!
One of if not the greatest player I have ever seen in a kiwi jersey and the reason why I changed codes and never looked back
Oh wow, who did you play for?
@@pointofdifferencerugbyleague I was just a teenager but did well playing rugby for ponsonby ponies our coach was the caretaker at Richmond rd primary school then jumped ship after watching this man playing for the kiwis and went down the hill to Grey lynn pk play for the Richmond bulldogs, Fred ah koui brought Mark Graham to our prize giving and got to meet him and I was absolutely star struck in 1987, he's is a wonderful humble man
@@tamataua4370 that's just beautiful mate. I'm star struck meeting guys over a Zoom chat, let alone meeting them in person!! So cool!

Glad to hear it!!! Had Gary Freeman, Kurt Sorensen, Motu Tony, Darrell Williams, and Shane Cooper on the poddy too. Now there's some great listens from more Auckland Legends!
Love this man, the myth THE LEGEND!
Wow. What a player. I am Australian and still rate this guy as one of the top 5 ever players. He was next level.
@@TheMarathonomahos that's so cool mate!
Just watched the first test from 85. Mark wasn't just cleaned up, a cheap forearm from Noel Cleal knocked him out before he hit the ground. But thats how the game was played then, noone was an angel :)
That is so true. The gloves were off for young and old back then!
Wow Mark Graham - Love this guy!
@@kane3396815 he is the greatest player and the greatest human too!
Mark is correct, something is definitely happening in regards to a South Island NRL team.
KIWI LEGEND and earn it for sure
Loved this so much
@@mattieherewini1 thanks Champ, glad to hear it!
A great player who played our Kumuls
One of the best!
Mal Reilly is the English lock Mark is trying to think of. Turned himself into a super coach after his illustrious playing career ended.
Correct! I put a photo up of him in the poddy. What a weapon of a player!
Dave, I think you need to get Alan Ruston on your podcast next lol. Great yarns to be heard.
🤣🤣🤣 I know, right!!?? That would be epic!
I was like a 10 year old, snotty nosed kid, i didn't know much of anything then, but i knew 2 names Olsen, & Mark Graham...
Lol, they are both Legends. Thanks so much for watching!
Go you Bears!
Dallas Donnelly i think Mark is trying to recall.
