I think more people are nice than rip off to be fair. It's just that the bad guys get the air time.

Help others at no cost. Certain trades are expensive and some do sadly rip people off.

That was very good of you Nick, they probably rang up one of the many call out agencies who subcontract work to third parties and keep a large proportion of the hourly rate for themsleves.

I would have been £124.00 buuuuuut then being old and having a heart I’d have likely screwed myself and just asked for a tenner.
Common courtesy and respect for others costs nothing. But the rewards can be many fold and lot have nothing to do with money. In a day and age where earning money is king its great to your ethical approach to both existing or potentially new customers. Well done and keep up the good work.

When I was in Telford you applied to the local council for passes to take a van to the local waste point.
You were given 12 in a book and when they ran out you had to try and purchase more. But that was non comertial then.
Green cable are great prices seem as good as I was getting from scrap yard without the hassle . I only strip tails and bigger cables
I agree @£250 it comes across as expensive, however I very much doubt the electrician new they were elderly and ill when they phoned, the guy may be working long hours and his weekend is only time with his family so weighs up spending time with his family and also providing at the same time.
I’m heading to the UK in July, my Mum who is 90 has an oven which is acting up, so I’ll be taking my testers with me. Also my Aunt has bulbs out and her Microwave is pooched.
Phone up the electrician and see what price he quotes you for a Saturday call out

I think Callout charges are fair but £250 is well over the top. £50-150 for 1st hour is fine depending on size of company and distance.
He may he may have not charged we will never know same as we will never know if you would have charged if you wasn’t filming this

You can take your van to tip if you have a ticket apply to council , you get 12 tickets a year .

Firstly , they were not scammed as they were told upfront the call out fee 250 . Secondly was this a firm or one man band , big difference in overheads .

You are right in that there needs to be some sort of charge but £260 seems excessive. Maybe £100 for the first hour then £x per hour after that.

You're lucky to get a van into your dump. Our local one doesn't accept anything apart from cars.
Ours allows vans in 12 times a year (no rental) and cars 52.

When I was more on the tools I never over charged even out of hours at most I charged for fuel. I had pneumonia this year so I’m retiring from being self employed
