I have seen a lot of footage of his interactions and believe they were some that are actually awkward than this one, this one is more oddly hilarious and sad at the same time, he genuinely felt bad, he liked her, didn't end up going the way he was expecting, I can tell because for a moment during the end when he was speaking to her his voice kind of changed to his normal voice, he has a daughter himself and I have a feeling he's one of the kindest and greatest dads on earth.
He has such a gentle heart for kids. He really cares for them and loves them.
I give Gaston props. He is doing his best to balance Gaston’s proud Character while trying to entertain the kids. Bless his heart

Viewing a second time, it doesn't look like Gaston actually upset her. She walked away from him calmly, then had that worried look of a tot who for a moment was too far from mom. The crying seemed to start when a loud laughing man off-camera ("Wanna go say bye to Gaston?) started teasing her. Same voice who later said "Say 'thank you'!"
On the other hand the little actress was doing a really great job of role-playing Belle. Could walking off on Gaston, getting upset, and saying 'I don't like you' have been part of her role-play? If so, she's got star power. My goodness, how cute was that curtsy?

Look at the look on the girls face, she looks like she thinks she might be in trouble (or danger). You ever have your parent loudly say your name? At 0:40 Gaston addresses the crowd. He is an actor, the crowd is some distance from him so he projects his voice. At about 0:42 he very loudly says, "I know..." The word "know" is especially loud, and it sounds just like the word "No!". That's the moment that frightened her. She gets away from him and then she tears up. There is a reason why people are generally, instinctively gentle around babies and small children, because they are especially sensitive to tone and volume.
This is a good Gaston. Very well played even if he got out of character for a bit.
