This was a lovely slideshow
haha underrated comment
My eyes.
this HAS got to be the funniest comment I've ever scrolled down to see after watching a video.
@@YooItsADAM ikr LOL
Oh snap 5 years later and it's still not great. I had to put it down to the lowest quality and it finally played.
Honestly I love both Joel Grey's version and Alan's, even if Alan's is my favorite. Comparing them is like comparing an apple to an orange. They are two completely different things. Grey's Emcee was all about being weird and slightly creepy. He was supposed to make thing unsettling and off the wall, but still interesting and fun to watch. Alan's Emcee, however, is more about inviting the audience in to his world of mischief. His Emcee some how manages to be alluring, sexy, and mysterious, but also adorable and quirky with his little "mraw!" and his giggles. He is pushing all the limits. They are both accomplishing different things. I think comparing them is pointless.
Yes. The characters or "versions" of the MC are tailored towards these two actors strengths and personalities. They are two completely different portrayals, each awesome in their own way. 10 points to Griffindor.
Yeah, because Joel looked like a clown marionette..zero sex appeal..alan brings overwhelming sex appeal to the role
@@veggigoddess I found both to be sexy in their own unique way.
I've been through every single version of this particular performance on youtube... and I have to say, Alan does the best Emcee I've seen.
By far!!!
I love his voice
For me Alan Cummings (and the way he presents the Emcee here) is the perfect Emcee. Naughty, Cheeky, Dark, Seedy, with a strain of honesty. Awesome!
Saw it in 1998 and 2015. Amazing!!! Allan is even better!!!
Martha Oliveira You know the awesome thing is that Alan wasn't the only one to be in it in 1998 and 2014-15! Helga was there too!
He's amazing. It's like this role was written with him in mind.
He's the perfect Emcee. I just want to go to New York to see him be perfect at what he does. BUT IM POOR *cries forever*
Me too but saw it in 99 and may go one more time anyway, only thing I ever saw on bway may go back
Clexaholic911 I’m so sorry I accidentally thumbed down😂 your comment is such a mood, I love him sm
I got sent to NYC from Silicon Valley for work in 98, bless their little hearts!
@@breaks0 How Long was it before Mr Cumming filmed Annie?
To the lady who recommended this to me on omegle. Thank you xD
Alan is the sexiest man alive. I love him way too much.
This is the reason I'm not str8.
Me neither! Hahahaha
Oh yes!! I have seen it in Hebrew, Spanish, German, and of course the play and the movie in English and I have read Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, etc.... So gay am I lol!
That's funny, this is the reason I wish I was a gay man. When I turned 17 my parents bought my bf and I tickets to this. I'd told him how badly I wanted to see the show and he relayed the message. They have never really known what the show was about. It was the best show I've ever seen and I've seen some good ones.
Sadly though, it did not feature the great Allan Cummings.
Because of Nightcrawler from X2? O.o?
If anyone was to play the new Frank N' Furter, It would be him
Funny you should say that... Tim Curry played the Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 Annie, and then Alan Cumming played Rooster in the 90's version. Both wonderful actors!
And Joel Cairo in a modern "Maltese Falcon" adaptation
alan was without a doubt born for the stage and was destined to be an amazing entertainer/performer.
Alan Cumning is awesome
I wholeheartedly agree. His performance is one of my most treasured memories of my NYC visit in 1999.
I completely agree. Alan was absolutely mesmerizing in this role.
I love Alan Cunming.
I can't believe Alan played the MC and Eli Gold. It just shows how versatile he is.
I agree. I was amazed at his “Eli Gould.” Then, to see him in “Cabaret.” Couldn’t be more opposite. So incredibly talented.
I would see him in anything.
Why do people look at an actor performing a character and assume, because he did it so naturally, that he must be the same in real life?? Come now, use your imagination.
Joel Grey is a hard act to follow and Mr Cumming has made his own version. Excellent work.
You can tell this was for an awards show as it is so much tamer than for example the London version at the Donmar in 1993.
HAPPY TO SEE YOUUUU 😁
I am soooo in love! he is such a powerhouse performer
His take on the emcee is so different from Joel Gray's that it's hard for me to remember that they are ostensibly playing the same part XD I like both, for different reasons!
Alan Cumming makes me giggle so much.
Now I understand why Alan is a star. I love his Cabaret performance above all others. ❤
Alan Cummings
I'm actually taking a class on Cabaret, it's many versions, and its history at my university. And GOD is it dark!
this is my favorite adaptation
Alan Cumming is so boss, I love Cabaret!
Looking forward to his return to this role on Broadway.
he's my favorite emcee. :)
I love this song. Three languages!! It almost beats Two Ladies
Bedeedle Dee is fun
Cabaret was the first musical I ever saw, as well as the first play. It was fantastic!
Now, Drama is taking over my life. Theatre, and musical Theatre in particular, is just spectacular.
alan cummings is a beast on stage!
He's the ONLY emcee for me.
Saw him appearing in Loser (2000), and I knew I recognized him. In the credits there was "Cabaret" listed, and I recognized that has the song they were singing. From there I went to wikipedia. There they had a list of productions. In the 98 production they had casts listings. I thought it would be hopeless to find it, but then the words, "was highly sexualized, wearing suspenders". From there I found Alan Cumming's name, and from there I realized where I recognized him from. He was Fegan Floop.
This is one performance I will always remember seeing on the original air date!
i absoulutley adore this play!!!!
Wow, he's really good in this =D
I saw an amateur performance of this song recently and the guy in Alan's role really captured the energy. Love it.
Thanks for posting this. It's prolly the only way I will ever see him in this role.
excellent!! i love alan..hes wonderful!
OMG!! Have this on repeat. Freakin love Alan. He is so perfect in this. I have always that this show and song in particular is intended more for the performance and quality/personality of the singer rather than a great singing voice. He has a great voice, but it is great because of the quality he brings to it not so much about vocal technique.
Alan Cumming is brilliant! Bravo!!
My god. He has the most beautiful bone structure I've seen in a long time.
Alan Cumming is a genious!
Always makes me want to be up there on stage! So awesome.
so creepy and yet so awesome...
i cant stop watching this! Its amazing!
weird how this performance choreography and everything in unchanged in 2014
That was done on purpose. It was supposed to be a almost direct revival of the version that won the Tony (most likely cause they didn't want to do the trouble of trying to come up with a better version)
*is AstridLana
Sorry, I couldn't finish this video. Alan Cumming's sexiness paralyzed me temporarily. ;D
i totally agree.
Love the "hello!" at 2:19. I agree he's not as on point as the recorded performance, but he's still wonderful. And I fully approve of the outfit. Alan in less clothing is a GOOD thing.
Saw this in NYC, I feel blessed!
You should see Alan Cumming in Julie Taymor's film of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus if you like his performance in this!
NGH ALAN!!!!!!!!! you have stolen my heart!!!! and my ovaries...
every time i hear this song, it of course remind me of the evening i saw it! And i keep laugh every time! And, I like this song!
Filmed on a calculator?
Alexandra Bunny potato more like 😂
Love him in this!
Thank you, I JUST found it last night. I loved it!
Well, Joel Grey will always be MY "Master of Ceremonies". He was my first;and for years-my only.
But, Alan is amazing in the role. Turn around, and he's 'Eli Gold'. He can do anything. I'm crazy about him. I'll watch anything he's in.
thnx you.
alan cumming... i love you...
*sigh*
Like this if you think Alan Cumming should host next year's Tony Awards opening up with this number!
i miss our Cabaret!!
huh... i would've never thought of Alan Cumming in this part, but he's good at it!
I've been DYING to see this since it came out. I was a tad young. There was supposed to be a Made for TV movie of this in 93. I've YET to find it online. Can't see it, can't buy it, can't even download the damn thing. I love Alan Cummings. This looks like his perfect role from the bit part he played in Burlesque.
I know this is 10 years later - but the 1993 filmed tv performance is now on youtube if you search it up ☺️
Alan is Definitly the best! he's sexy and knows how to pronounce the German correctly. Love him!!! Woot!!
Alan i SO hot!
its nice to see a fresh interpretation, but ur right joel does own it, i love this tho, its as close u'll ever get to recrating joels magic, i love allan!!
Imagine if he was the host for the Tony’s that night, what a way to introduce the host 🤭
What’s Floop doing in a German night club? Nine years ago, I saw a college production of Cabaret staged like this when my high school was attending a theatre festival on the campus.
I like when he just laughs out of no where XD "Ahaha" 2:02
FLOOOP!!!!!!!
I think most people thumb down a comment they don't agree with and vice versa. It's not necessarily an "attack" on the commenter.
(we want him for our own) Yes we do.
"Cabaret" has, at times, some of the best music ever heard on Broadway. But I agree, as a whole it's by no means the best musical ever. Songs like "Meeskite" bring it down.
Love this ,will young ex pop idol played this character very well
Yeah this is alan cummings☺
That awkward moment when you find out this is the same guy that has shown up in multiple children's movies, such as Spy Kids and The Smurfs.
And Annie
His skins so pale. (Randomly noticed.) Loved it and will try to find the original to understand it better. Thanks for putting this up! ^.^
love this!!
haven't seen this in time! XD
I LMAO'ed when he went RAWR at 1:20! XD
FLOOOOOP!!!!!!!
I agree.
the made-for-tv movie of cabaret from '93 IS on youtube!
Thank you for your input. Buh-bye.
I'm glad the revival changed things up a bit. The original was very androgynous and subtle in its overall execution of the show. The revival was the exact opposite and was hyper-sexualized. It gives all the songs a different flavor.
espesially because my world studies teacher looks sort of like him now i have to see him every day...
no he didn't. I knew him well and he always spoke glowingly of the film, especially Liza Minnelli's performance as Sally Bowles. He was flattered by Michael York's choice to play him.
I feel the same way...
......Peter Florrick isn't gunna be too happy about this.
I watched this like an hour ago
Roundabouts touring with cabaret in 2016
I wish I could've seen him preforming the whole show ;-;
joel grey was PHENOMENAL!...from the first second you see him onstage...
LADIES an' genl'men.... My favorite part!
oh la la! Alan is a babe.
oh my god his entire mouth his grey. I never noticed that before.
I thought he was absolutely entrancing in this role. However, I was really irritated to read that he made some relatively disparaging remarks regarding Sir Lawrence Olivier. I don't understand that kind of attitude. But...he is talented.
Oh Alan Cumming I will remember him from Goldeneye but this is very great.
@AliaSparrow I did watch part 1 and it was much better than the Tony performance because the song wasn't chopped up. And I will definitely watch the rest of it, thanks.
Seriously, if someone has a DVD of this, I've got paypal.
