Well I'm gonna say it. I reckon Jett learnt something from this session with AJ. Watching him at Salt Lake 1 he just looked so much more relaxed and confident. I reckon those 1 handed drills and the attack position deets have helped him a bunch. The kids gonna be unstoppable!
I’m very new to motocross (been on a track 5 times). This video is amazing. Thank you so much AJ and Jett. Those riders are so lucky to get that expertise
Love you AJ, your logical approach got me back into the sport enjoying it now as an adult more than I ever did even as a teenager/kid. The biggest thing I’ve noticed that makes it hard for people to feel like their attack position is working for them is that most people ride in too low of a gear while trying to develop these good habits and consequently end up having a hard time initiating their core and upper body into their acceleration.
The biomechanics term for the leg component he is describing is called hip hinge. This is typically driver by hamstring and hip flexor shortness from too much sitting (called lower crossed syndrome). This also generates lots of back compensation (tucked butt) and responsible for most non traumatic back pain in developed world. I fix 75% of my patients pain/dysfunction who have lower crossed syndrome by restoring their flexibility and then once they have the needed flexibility, the strengthening finishes off the rest of their issue. This mechanism is what is used for the deadlift.
These videos are such a great help. I’ve been off the bike for quite a few years and never had any training. I’m planning on running some XC races once mid summer rolls around and these are letting me keep my old good habits and break my old bad ones. Thanks for doing these.
Great stuff boys! I am constantly telling myself to continue the things I learn on your channel while on the track. No joke, this last few months I’ve become much faster by just riding smoother and more efficient. Thanks AJ! 👍🏼
This immediately made me think of the analogy Ryno was talking about on the Gypsy podcast. With the exception of the ankles, having the the body flex characteristics similar to that of a tree provides the ideal form; planted and firm down low while allowing more movement as you progress upward 👍
I'm now realizing I need to work on mobility. I lean forward with my knees because my back is so damn tight and I can't properly hinge. Jett can just pitch over and touch the bars with his chest, that's some insane flexibility.
Thank you aj I've been loving your channel trying to learn all i can currently saving up for my fisrt bike im hooked once a friend let me try it out man I've been missing out now i want to learn everything and really try yalls sport out thanks aj for helping me out

I think it's mainly because jett is gifted, he can just hop on the bike and ride it however, he knows all this stuff but he does it without knowing, like changing gears or whatever, he just doesn't think about it

Hey AJ been loving what you've been doing lately. Really cool the spot that you've managed to carve out for yourself in this industry. Props! You probably don't remember me since it's been so long but I used to race NESC, most notably in the 85 A class battling with Jimmy and Hacia and those guys and then a bit in 125's. Steve Lyons 238 on a Yamaha with an orange helmet lol. I actually remember you on a 65 and then just moving up to an 85 as I got hurt. Where I'm thinking jett and hunter used to learn how to ride is up at glasshouse, all the terrain is different there, red clay, mud, sand, loose dirt and gravel all in a little space with plenty of hills and straights.
For younger riders, this may be an easier position to attain. You have to be pretty flexible in the hamstrings so a bit more difficult for older riders to get right. It’s one thing to get yourself in the position on a stand but to bend at the waist while riding and not collapse forward you have to be loose and flexible in the hips and hamstrings. Any exercises for this? Yoga maybe lol.
Mark it, I guarantee Jett will win the 250 Outdoor National (don't look at the date I posted lol) Jett has a long career ahead of him. Great personality, Americans love Aussie's and he is not a bad rider to boot. :-}
