100% this! I enjoy seeing whatever you happen to be working on and can go back and re-watch an old video if I need to get re-caught up on a specific build.
I had a leaking rear differential pinion seal like that on my old Toyota 4runner. It turned out the diff breather was clogged, and when it got hot the pressure blew gear oil out of the seals. I fixed it by just replacing the diff breather, and extended it with a tube up into the fuel fill door to prevent gunking it up again. Good luck with your build, love seeing the old toyotas still kicking!
I also used one of those cameras when I was working at my job as a Tool & Die Maker, as a Tool and Die Maker I had to sometimes realign punches, buttons and cut steels for die stamping dies. I used the camera to make sure a punch and button has to make sure it has enough clearance all the way around it when and if they need to be realigned.
This truck already looked like the "After" picture on a restoration build. How PLEASANT it must be to work around and take apart such a CLEAN truck! Except for the leak in the diff, it seemed like no fuss, no muss. It's as though it WANTED you to pull out that drivetrain! It can't wait to be electric! Continued success to you!
Great video, Jeremey! The engine on those had an aluminum block, so the weight difference didn't surprise me too much. Looking forward to what is next down the pipe, keep up the good work!
Hey viewing from Australia we have heaps of hiluxs over here and I know the transfer should be able to be separated from the transmission they run separate oil and everything it’s just that the transfer case shifter is kind of remote mounted to the gearbox.
This was my first truck and i had 3 more after that. I've been making the weight guesses. I think i would be cool to just replace the motor and keep the drive train. Manual electric, don't have to worry about stalling. Those granny gears will tow a tank with the electric motor.
The differentials will leak from pinion seal, that's where the input shaft goes, but they can also leak through the threads where that pinion nut goes. So I would replace the seal and when you put the nut back on, use a thread locker or a hydraulic thread sealer. I keep a permatex hydraulic thread sealer on hand for those. It works well. Also when you pull the flange to replace the pinion seal, look for any grooves on the machines portion of that flange that runs inside the seal. If you have a groove, it will leak again, so you can usualy get a repair kit. It is a super thin piece of steel that goes on and covers the groove so you dont get leaks.
@@electricsupercar You are welcome. I'm generally not into electric cars as a rule, but when someone is building one as a custom job, I enjoy the creativity and ingenuity of the work. I think you do impressive work especially for a guy that didn't start in this field. Gives me a little joy to see someone succeeding in thier dream.
Regarding the front diff, if you hold the rotating wheel still or put it on the ground and rotate the input shaft the other wheel should move. It rotates the wheel with the least resistance. Regarding the rear diff, there should be a oil seal behind that input shaft.
I have a 1987 Toyota 4Runner and I've been thinking of doing a build like yours for a while, so I'm truly excited to watch this build series and see your outcome. 🤩 For my own project, I'm keeping the transfer case for 4-wheel drive but might need to tweak the gearing in the Tesla drive unit to avoid unnecessary wear and tear. Have you given that any thought? 🙂
Nice video - as usual. I have a very humble mechanical knowledge from jeeps I have owned. The front axle, might have an axle disconnect and that’s why the wheel did not turn! The hub cap locks are old but they work. Last video I was wondering if the plan is to simply replace the engine with an electric motor in order to maintain all the drivetrain, but now it seems you are heading in a different direction.
Looking good. I don't think the rear diff is supposed to leak like that. You may need to take it apart and redo all the seals. It;'s not for the faint of heart, you should get a specialist to help you with that the first couple of times. Good chance to add a rear locker.
Love your work and your videos. I like the short video's on a SPECIFIC build. OMG - you are so blessed with all that knowledge and skills. But you know, many things are better in two. You should get yourself a helper, your wife, a child, your dad, your dog or ask Elon for an optimus bot (LOL). Oh I just went to the end of your video - you are looking for help. GOOD.
Thanks! I don't mind jumping from project to project, but maybe name the videos with a clear sequence (e.g., 1987 Toyota Hilux episode name/description #02).
why you don’t fix your camera placement brother take a lens that is not that zoomed because the frame you go with is weird, even use your phone for videos or use a stand to place it far away if you don’t have the equipment for better lens
i rly enjoy watching your videos all this years but i am starting boring because i don’t see progress in the camera i don’t know if you understand what i wanna say,you are really talented on what you do keep going just try to fix the camera placement or use wider lens if you want to use the camera in your hands
and make more time in your edits because that’s rly important for viewers make some music some plans of what you do with music on background make your videos “yours” with your own edit and personal style have a good one friend keep it up
So glad to see you got your channel back. I couldn't believe you got hacked.
Feel free to jump from build to build. It’s good to see new projects in the different builds.
Thanks!
I also like the variety of seeing the progress on several different builds.
100% this! I enjoy seeing whatever you happen to be working on and can go back and re-watch an old video if I need to get re-caught up on a specific build.
Agreed. I like seeing the variety and especially the different challenges with different vehicles.

@ElectricSuperCar You are welcome, I hope it helps!
I am so glad to hear that things are moving along well. As always, wishing you nothing but the best.
Appreciate the well wishes!
This is my favorite of the builds!
Nice! 🙌
Nice build, it's sure to bring on a new crowd of viewers.
I hope so!
Don't care if you jump from build to build. Love this truck. I want one sooooo bad lol

I'm so happy you're growing!!!! Past are the struggling days 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Good to see you back Electric SuperCar

Nice to see you back ;-)
Keen to see more of the “simple” conversions. I’ve had a dream to ev a Lux for a while now. So ewe may just help with that dream.

Yes! Employees and expanding space! Sounds like things are going well! Keep it up!
Thanks, we're getting there!

That engine looks in excellent condition, super clean engine bay.
Thanks! It's been well taken care of.
No kidding!
That truck is looking so nice. Can't wait to see it upgraded.
You and me both!
I love this video's sponsor. Sometimes you find the products that I never knew existed but always needed!
Glad you like it!
Nice to see you've upgraded you gloves! I found seeing the latex gloves slowing deteriorating over previous videos very triggering 😅
Trucks looking good and I enjoy seeing all the other projects too. Exciting to hear that the company is growing and looking forward to the next video!
Right on

I knew those hub lockers were gonna get you! lol
🤦
If you have separate front and jacks built into the lift, you can remove the front wheels and place the suspension on the jacks. Good luck with it.
Thanks
Definitely will watch this, as building a generator electric Hilux is a dream of mine. That 22R engine though looked near mint.

It’s just the pinion seal that’s leaking on the differential. Easy fix. 👍🏻
Are you offering help?
@@electricsupercarsadly I’m too far way (in FL), if I were closer to you, I’d be there in a heartbeat.
love your videos! thank you for the content
Appreciate you watching!
only 1 CV shaft was spinning because since theyre both in "free" and the diff is also an open diff, it spins the one of least resistance.
Also, this is what i wanna do to my 4runner, over here in aus ahaha
Good catch, thanks for clarifying!
Regarding the front diff, if you hold the rotating wheel still or put it on the ground and rotate the input shaft the other wheel should move. It rotates the wheel with the least resistance.
Regarding the rear diff, there should be a oil seal behind that input shaft.

Yes, soon

Fantastic a new video 🎉

it turned out to be quite light without an engine
It needs a pinion seal in the rear.
Hi! just curious, how do you plan to keep the 4 wheel drive system? thanks!
Not sure yet

Since it's a manual, why not just keep the whole transmission/transfer case combo? Curious to see what motor set up you are planning to use.
