I've noticed that with both my Nokta relic and my racer2, on some of those deeper targets if you go faster on your sweeps it will register a bit better without so much grunt with it on DI3 not sure if it has to do with the size of the snapshots or what but unlike my Tesoros, slowing down the sweep hurts more than helps. give it a try, can't hurt. love my Nokta, makro and Tesoros. thanks for the video. best test bed on RUclips.
Everytime you change to a different mode you should always ground balance again for that mode. So important. To get good depth with the racer 1 or 2 you need your gain as high as possible. Swing speed makes a massive difference by the way as well. Any detector will work well when used properly.
Are your coins in the US copper cored? I had a Fors Core and a Gold+, l run a test using a cut quarter hammered silver coin and Roman minim ( a tiny bronze coin), in tubs of contaminated soil from a Roman villa site. The Racer 1 and 2 find them very easily, the Noktas both could`nt pull them at all, and l tried all settings. l have found with the R2 l had to put the tone break on zero for both coins, this is in 2 tone. The Tejon on British soils is poor also. You tried lowering or adjusting the tone break? I think my R2 set up my way would pull most, if not all, on your test bed.
Very unusual as its performance is supposed to be better than the Fors Core. I think you had to turn down the Iron Volume quite a bit more and get used to the sound nuances as the iron volume adds additional sound information which differs from what you are used to with the Fors, they also like quick swings for depth. Also 3 tone tops out at about 13" max on a nickel sized object (AIR), it isn't the most sensitive by far on the Racer 2. I have a Nokta Fors Core, but I'm waiting on the Impact. Thanks for the video Scannerguy.
Only other thing I can think of is the coil might not be up to par. I ran every setting many times through the bed. tried hitting the 12 ich quarter 50 different ways and settings I'll be posting a video comparing it to the core head to head. I tried the core coils on it and will not even register so have only the one coil with it.
Great video! One piece of advice, try 2 tone mode instead of 3 tone mode for more depth. Also, in deep mode you MUST swing the coil extremely slowly as per the manual. I read the main Makro support dealer mention this on the treasurehunter forums. I can't recall what he said for depth increase, but I thought it was 1" in 2 tone mode over 3 tone mode. I've got a Racer 2 on the way! Can't wait! :) Was set to buy the F75 (non SE/LTD) for Fisher's anniversary price of $599, but this smokes that machine in most areas (remember, I'm talking the NON deep mode, slower processor F75 non SE/LTD). The Racer 2 really especially shines when it comes to actually DIGGING a signal, especially when next to iron. It might be our soil here, but many guys have found the same. They can actually HEAR the coin next to the iron as a dig-gable signal (even if no VID comes up), while with the F75, T2, etc. you can't get a strong enough tone from the coin to tell that one is actually there, and it ends up being left in the ground. The direct audio stream of the Racer 2/CoRe is vastly superior to the having to process individual hits like the F75/T2 do in this regard. Several other good youtube videos demonstrate this nicely and are worth checking out. Thanks again!
I'm quite sure I missed many things with this detector. My actual test bed that I run detectors through made it struggle somewhat compared to the F75 SE LTD and especially the Core. I so wanted it to outperform the Nokta and expected it to. I put a vid on comparing it to the Nokta Forse Core. Had nothing to gain or lose doing so. The Nokta seemed to be a better detector. Again I may not have given it enough time. I ran it in every available option like the Core. One big thing on the Core was how stable it was compared to this but this did go deeper. The great thing on this detector is the massive vdi swing in numbers from even clad to zinc. Quite sure if someone gets the hang of it they would be able to separate very good.
Totally! It's amazing for classifying once you get the VDI experience. Just wanted to mention one other thing. I've now watched both your F75 and Racer 2 videos back to back several times over. One thing that is worth mentioning, is several of the hard disc. targets you clearly gave the F75 a point or two for, and then when you watch the same targets on the Racer 2, you weren't as lenient. Not your fault, just matter of human error in judgement. Like the 4 nails around a coin has to for sure be a point on the Racer 2, and IMHO in real life swing speeds and checking a target, actually does BETTER than the F75. You had to really really baby it and basically not move the F75 to pick up that target. IMHO a few of these is a few points deducted off the Racer 2 that I don't think should be, but were given to the F75 that were so iffy no one would dig them. The candle holder is another you gave points for the F75 but not the Racer 2, and the Racer 2 seemed to do better on it. The other thing is there is 6 points for fine copper specs right off the bat for the F75 which is fine, but that's a huge weighting for something that isn't realistic in real world swinging, and skews the total values hugely making someone think some detectors suck, when in fact they are tied for a REAL world usage scenario as no one is digging pin head sized copper. I would eliminate this test, or even just reduce it to one test, or even just 0 or 1 points for each (hits it or not). That would put the detector scores in a much better weighting scale for comparing. The gold & meteor tests are good though. Anyway, no offense what-so-ever, just a few things that stood out to me that you will only notice when you watch both videos back to back, that really make the F75, Fors CoRe & Makro Racer 2 a lot closer in real world results than the points you assigned would imply. But thank you SO SO much for these videos. Best detector test bed videos on youtube for sure! :)
Ease of use is another one that came to mind, that should definately go to the Racer 2 over the F75 just as you admitted in the video of all the hours you spent to try to try and learn it. The F75 is so inefficient and clunky with always scrolling around menus for each item to get into different modes to try and pick it up and test, and requires a lot of hours for a newbie to be proficient at and know what to do and how to tweak it. The Racer 2 could be picked up by a first timer and do extremely well with on the first hunt, even with the hardest targets and modes! The recovery speed by the time you actually have decided to dig a target on the F75 is so poor in comparison, that you'd already have started digging your next target on the Racer 2, nearly doubling your find recovery speeds. Well maybe not double, but you know what I mean. The Fors CoRe is very good at this as well, though slightly slower with having to twist your arm and stop all the time to change modes.
Thanks, One thing with the Racer 2 that I did not react upon during tests and hunting that dawned on me was the Big jump in VDI from say even zinc to Cu compared to pretty much all other detectors. When a good coin is mixed in iron the VDi will be lower than say the Core. It still is saying its there but being use to seeing say a 50 or 60 it ends up a 30 on the R2. A person keeps that in mind it will pull good from bad
Man I really wanted to see the first relic in these tests. I still have mine but considering they don't make it anymore I'm not sure if sending it to you for testing will make sense
For the small target test do you give a point for hitting all 3 targets? What is the benefit of hitting targets that small. I understand the grains of gold, but not the copper. I can tell you when I get this great signal and I pull out a tiny aluminum screw fragment, I'm quite disappointed. I'd take away a point if it hits the tiniest copper test..Owning a Tejon (which to me is the boss of tiny targets), I was afraid to see this video come out. Great to see it didn't beat the Vaquero!
Give two points if it can hit all three. Just wanted to cover all aspects. Not sure if you've ever heard of the Ballpoint pen test that many do but the cu. chunks do about the same. So I figured I throw that into the mix. Whether it's considered any benefit or not. Some like it. The meteorites are actually harder to hit. Take most detectors out into a plowed field meteorite hunting and you are wasting time. Which I have done.
I almost grabbed one of these instead of my fors, glad I made the right choice. Great video as always!!! I got one for your bed,a recon pro. I'm curious to see how it would do. Not well I'm thinking loI but I only use it to shoot nuggets and she's fine at that. But ya I wouldn't mind lending it your way to see how it gos...
I love watching your test videos. The Racer 2 was on my list to replace the Fors Core but I may put that on hold and wait for the Nokta Impact sometime this year. I also have an AT Pro. Why did you chose the Fors Core over the AT Pro?
+Charles Cadrin I need to write Makro. I was shocked after the test. Worried the coil isn't up to par. But seems to be. I'm going to throw a vid on comparing the core and racer 2. A person can see the difference in it. I want to get the forse relic and try that out. The Forse Core is a damn good machine.
scanerguy 1968 I have my GD detecter stolen and can buy a new one , I use mine to clean parks and schools of bad things blike needles and the aluminum things that used to cook it up broken pop cans Nails Etc we've had two kids that have been stabbed with needles and multiple kids that have been stepped on nails cuz there's been someone going around putting them in the beds of the parks but my question is do you have a detector that's good that you might feel to give me a good deal on second hand
I'll post another vid switching settings on the fly for comparing them so people can see or maybe give insight as to something I may be missing. I'm finding my soil is somewhat more magnetic than thought. I can take a detector from the test bed then to my mother in laws and it goes deeper. Think the clay doesn't help.
+scannerguy1968 I usually run lower gain in trashy areas or with lots of nails..swinging slow... once I get a target beep I use the pinpoint forward and back side to side to know I'm right over the target, then a small concentrated side to side swing...but I'm shocked about the 15" brass candle holder...in deep with the gain maxed out it should be hitting that with ease...great video just the same... looking forward to the head to head... will they be run on the same sensitivity and modes?
I'll have to try that. The Core can be cranked in DI3 where this chatters in Three tone cranked. The more I think about it the more I worry if the coil isn't 100%. I pretty much figured this would outdo the Core. No reason why it shouldn't. Tech is about the same with each I thought other than the Racer 2 is improved. The vid I will post shows a clear difference between the two.
I'd probably take the AT pro over this. But don't ask if I'd rather have the Nokta fors core over the AT pro. People might get upset. At least the AT Pro users might
Why the AT Pro at 38 of 66 vs the Makro racer 2 at 47 of 66?? New to metal detecting and will be buying my 1st detector soon and am trying to decide on an overall good detector for S Mississippi type soils and the beach under 1K.
i have never gone metal detecting , well only once with a crap $100 machine but i have spent a lot of time watching these videos and i can say this machine is one id really love too own and anyone who has a good ear and is into science physics etc can see how obvious it is that this machine responds well as does the aka as does some of minelabs machines and some of whites tdi sl .. personally the garrett would be my last option although the at max looks cool and the water resistance kinda sucks you in a bit and you also have for a decent price the quest pro even the q40 looks like it has a good response also is slick as hell .. now u can also go buy a bounty hunter or fisher or some Chinese tixuan and ad a cool coil that costs more then the machine and it mite do great but im talking about stock machines factory settings etc but back too this machine i feel for the price it is something special also looks cool and thats it folks good luck whatever you choose !!
Hello scanerguy, thanks for showing all the depth test`s, really good as best on Yutube. Would like to see your test if you ever get a XP Deus as have dought`s about mine, Thanks from the UK.
I've seen you do this test on other machines. Do you have the results compiled somewhere? Be interesting to see them. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.
Thanks and Yes I did do tests on quite a few. They would be on my channel under the metal detector playlist ruclips.net/p/PLm400E27X68QiHZkVSC8W0vRIB_udM3S6
I'd love to see the different detector scores together in a chart--or maybe your top 5 high scoring detectors. I think your tests are fair and provide a realistic view of the detector's capabilities.
At 19:15 the screen will scroll on what detectors I've done so far. Other than add the fisher f75 in as 3rd place or 2nd. It tied with the Nokta Fors core
I don't think it's your coil. I bought a R2 a couple weeks ago, I have yet to find anything over 5". I have about 25 hours on mine so far, have dug a lot of trash and some clad, but unfortunately that's it. Even areas that usually have a few really deep targets have not produced with this machine. The ground is really dry here, I'm hoping we will get some rain so I can go to the parks, don't want to kill the grass and get people po'd at detecting
I'm not going to give up on it yet. Just doesn't seem right. I'll upload s vid on this vs the Core. There are noticables differences to say the least. One being it's more chattery. There are things I really like about it and you'd think it has most the same tech as the Core from being competing brothers owned the companies which I believe Nokta now owns the Racer brand. Could be wrong though.
After using this for a month I can tell you it doesn't get very deep. I have a small bowl of clad, nothing else to show for my efforts. Will sell this machine and go back to Garrett.
Hi do you think the Core is a better Detector vs the Racer 2?i saw a few Videos with the Racer 2 on you tube and the Deep Mode dosnt impresset me much in Terms of Audio report and ID stability. Thanks for the informative Videos
I love your tests but this is the worst performance I've ever seen on this machine. I bet I"ve seen every Racer & Racer 2 vid out there and the one thing I've noticed is SWEEP SPEED! Yours is the slowest of any I've seen & I bet that's why you're seeing far less depth than anyone else. This appears to be, again, never swung one, (yet!) but it appears to be a VERY deep machine! You're F75 tests were equally unimpressive although you gave it a very high score! Keep testing & I'll keep watching!

Says right in the manual that two-tone is a deeper mode so why use three tone ? I think you should have tested in two tone mode. Just my .02

The race 2 showed up today didn't even open it and sent it back. I have a teknetics T2 that works the same or better
l`ve had T2s from day one they came out, the R2 kicks its ass.
No contest. The T2 can't even touch the Racer 2. It's not even in the same league.
hello scannerguy
great videoas always very very tranquil and clear .like youre honesty man.
thank you for all your work.

Thanks much for the compliment and watching. Have a good day from the U.S.

what is your top rated lightweight relic detector?....Im lookin to buy thanx
Where the R2 shines, is the 5" sniper in trash. I had a friend that never took it off the machine!
Great video ! Looks like the Tejon is still King
When are you going to test the new Garrett At max?
It may have hit some of those deep targets but the tone and Id numbers would mean I wouldn't have dug them. Great video!

for the irony targets the racer 2 does better with lower gain... also 2 tone is the best overall mode for depth aside from deep mode...
I'll post another vid switching settings on the fly for comparing them so people can see or maybe give insight as to something I may be missing. Cable is way too loose near the coil. You should tighten it up and increase sweep speed and repost new video. Love the videos
Can you test nokta golden sense please.😊😊
I owe the MR2 Garrett AT Max AT Pro and the XP Deus. But must say the MR2 is my favorite detector. But the Garrett wins the weather test😂
Hit that test bed in 2 tone and the score will go up.

Do more detector reveiws ! Could careless about flashlights
Im getting there. Have 6 detectors ro do. Just did v3i and will post. Got caught up in too many lights.
Nice moves your doing great as always
Hello scanerguy, thanks for showing all the depth test`s, really good as best on Yutube. Would like to see your test if you ever get a XP Deus as have dought`s about mine, Thanks from the UK.

No, may get to it though if I find a good enough deal. Or if fisher would send me one. Thinking they are kind of on the same grounds as the f75
Perry keep your comments to yourself,hi another fine video,we love them in the Uk.god bless ya.GL HH
Or are some coins ferrous cored? Try 2 tone, iron audio 0, tone break 0, disc 1, pulls the coins out of contaminated sites of habitation.

After using this for a month I can tell you it doesn't get very deep. I have a small bowl of clad, nothing else to show for my efforts. Will sell this machine and go back to Garrett.
Look into the Nokta Fors Core. Very hard to beat all around.
Nokta Fors Core with MARS TIGER COIL Yeeah:)) Stock coil gold ring 36cm with Mars Tiger coil 45cm :)

Hey Julio you wear that crap when you metal detect ? Ya look like your ready for EOD ! lmao
when doing reviews, keep your kid out of it. It really bothers me !
Then don't watch...and don't tell people what to do with their kids. Getting kids involved in this activity is a great thing.
Stuppid as!
