- G'day all MrPaladin here.
I was wanting to do two things today. Firstly I installed a new Eye Tracker and wanted to test it out and both show you what I look at and also work out myself what I do look at while I play spy.
The second thing I was wanting to check was playing with a spycicle in this current pyro infested environment. Many have complained that it did not protect like it used to.
So lets take a Spycicle, with a L'etranger and an Invis watch onto Merc Park with the eye tracker and see who we can spy on.

So I noticed the following things as I observed my eye movements...
1- I track threats...
2- I track targets...
3- I only look sidelong at enemies unless I'm aiming for them...
4- I look at my disguise a lot...
5- I look at the killfeed and team kill list on hud often (especially near their spawn)
6- I don't look at my health unless I'm horribly wounded... I simply assume I'm fine and pick up health when possible.
7- Because I was using an invis watch with l'etranger I was focused on if the ammo boxes were present and mostly ignored the health.
8- Yeti nipples

And you like to look at that those yeti nipples

and look to saxton crotch and yeti nipples
did not...
Very helpful, could you also have the mod that shows what key you press (wasd) so we can see how you set up trickstabs

This footage was recorded with a tobii eyeX eye tracker. What you see is a blob showing what my eyes are looking at. If you see the blob go offscreen below I'm looking at my keyboard briefly... If you see it go offscreen left, I take a look at my 2nd monitor

Using this can be really informative to how you play.
Really liked the way it added to the video, made it so interesting to watch. Would be interested to see how this would work with the other classes, like demo or sniper who might be looking in different spots
i like this. it helps me see where you are focused on. if you did this for other videos, that would be cool.

Good point but it still stands that being backstabbed every time you spawn and absolutely no one being able to help you because they are also being backstabbed can really piss someone off

We just found out that heavy is one of my friends 😂 Damn paladin, never seen him so angry, well done. Gotta be careful not to go spy near him anymore
Why not just follow him round as spy, and revolver him once each time he reaches full health without overheal, repeat until he carries the hugo long heater and will chace anything that looks like a spy
I am It the Huo-Long Heater kinda loses its strength against spies when people realize you can jump over the ring of fire and then stab the heavy

Man that Heavy player was getting really salty towards the end. When you're making the enemy players salty and paranoid, you know you're doing a good job as Spy. Well done!

IM the heavy at 7:12 and also saved "his butt" at 12:25

Wow you bamboozled the enemy team's morale
First you kept killing the heavies which forced one to get angry at the med causing discord and making that heavy go pyro (less useful class compared to heavyweapons)
Then you tore apart the second heavy's spirit and he just kept spychecking to the point where he didn't even fight for most of the time
then you made everyone shoot randomly in a desperate attempt to find you, but to no avail

I also kept the teleporters down forcing those heavies and respawners to have to walk to the frontlines ;)

Another paragonic display of synergizing determination and skill, Ser Paladin.
Yeti mammaries and Saxton's own package aside, I especially enjoyed the addition of the eye tracker as it gave us insight (hohoho) into your own determination.
It is often been said that a warrior's greatest asset is patience and observation, the former of which i have learned from your calm and collected playstyle, and the latter now manifested in the way your expertise views your surroundings.
Although it is rather a bit distracting, it certainly in a way, bridges our immersion, as we now effectively see as you see.
and golly, you operate with the precision of a surgeon, dear friend.

I noticed that the eye tracker tended to disappear for brief moments as you were changing what your disguise was holding. I'll take a guess that you had to glance down to your keyboard for that, which is interesting to me in all honesty. I would've imagined that you'd be used to doing such a thing and use muscle memory for it.

This was actually a really cool video idea. The eye tracking gave me some real insight about where your focus is. Normally I'm looking all over the place when watching your vids, however this time I found myself trying to match your area of focus. This combined with your commentary suddenly made your actions a lot more cohesive to me. Thanks Mr.P
I gotta say, I'm really impressed with this new tech, and I look forward to seeing it improve self analysis and understanding of how a spy thinks.
whenever I play spy,when i'm invisible, I don't know why, there is always a demo who shots a random pill right in my face, and it always crits.
I was shot by a random pill in the face in this video! :) and later by a not so random one.
Spies have the worst luck with dying to random BS they have no control over, like overzealous team scouts engaging the enemy and then running to the corner you're hiding in.

The eye tracker really helps with seeing what you're focusing on, and it really reflects your playstyle or the place that should be often checked. Seeing that you look at the hiding spots (such as the metal boxes on 2nd) really promotes to have it in the back of our mind
I really like this. Just the idea of where the eye movements are really does show what goes on and the rapidness of being in game. I do hope you continue to use this feature in the future.

It's just amazing to see the difference between where you, as the player, look and where I, the observer, looks. Didn't think there would be so much difference yet so many things in common. For example, I'm really worried about your health and seem to notice it more when you notice it as well. This was only one of several other factors. Love this new thing a lot, keep up the great videos!
Wow. Your videos are great. They've not only help me improve as a spy, but also as my class main (engineer) since it's taught me how to better predict a spy's movements. You're probably one of the only TF2 RUclipsrs I watch regularly.

Psychological spy plays are so satisfying, making the enemy do extra things because of that 1 spy.
extra thinks like "walking from spawn" and "walking back to spawn to put that darn teleporter back up so we dont have to walk!"

Nice videos, I used to play spy a lot back before f2p. I took a really long break and when I came back I was really nervous about spying in casual instead of community because I wasn't as good but your videos have helped me get back to my favorite class!
I love how much you want us to see you play spy. You really break it down in different ways to help people get better. Even with something small as eyesight you still cover it to show what you pay attention to. Nice Job Mr.P!

Well the thought really made a nice video off it, also im sure everybody as stared at the yeti from time to time lol.
I realized (when you go for a trickstab) you generally look above their head and behind their back.
I'm looking for their class and their loadouts and the direction they are looking, all of that can be seen around that area...

Just want to say that the eye-tracker is SUPER COOL. It's really nice to know what you're focusing on as you're explaining your thoughts on your spy gameplay; it'll help a lot of people understand more of what a spy needs to be aware of in any given situation.

I love the eye tracker! I I would love to have similar videos for the other mercs and compare your eye movement depending on the class, loadout, gamemode and gamestate. That would be VERY interesting to know!
