This is a classic of cheese, but let me tell you folks, turning on the close-captioned subtitles then using the auto-translate to English function turns it into an incomprehensible yet awesome babble of Engrish that goes perfectly with the stop-motion animation of Takara employees flinging their toys at each other. ;-)
@durge12 Hell, when they were filming this it hadn't come out in America yet either. Galvy's toy and documentation all simply labeled him as "City Commander" to avoid spoilers.
While it could have done with rotoscoping in more laser shots instead of just implying them with explosions, this is overall a very fun piece. Perhaps even superior to its animated counterpart. Certainly the "Scramble Power" limb-swapping sequence is vastly superior, due to camera footage of toys not being at the mercy of half-assed animation. Another treat is Ultra Magnus' transformation, which homages and expands upon the transformation sequence from the Diaclone "Powered Convoy" commercial (advertising the toy that would become him).
THAT was 198x production level. with toys itself having limited articulations.. Today we even have the same G1 Convoy with Masterpiece articulations but with the same ol 'five stage' transformation sequences.
@Padata3000 its because when this was released in japan the 1986 movie wasnt in japanese cinemas yet so they didnt know that galvatron was megatron. they just read 'city commander' and though 'cool, he's one of megatrons big bots'
Interesting... There's not much to this, but I've always wanted to see it. Gotta love how it's blatantly all "Buy all our playsets and toys" at the end. And I thought the US marketing was bad...
Damn! Even their commercials are better than ours! When it came to making G1 awesome, all we had was the movie, but they made the entire animated series & their commercials bad-ass!
great old commercial classic! Though I have no clue what they're saying in Japanese, I still enjoy the video. I wonder if they're using a clear harness.lol
They didn't get him until the Encore line, when it turned out that in one of their acquisitions, Takara had bought out the subcontractor Toybox used to produce the toys that would become Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx. Sky Lynx is kind of hilarious, because they dumped Omega Supreme after Season 2 because he was a Toybox design... only to bring in another Toybox product in Season 3.
Aside from the ambiguous ending, its stuff like this that makes the grand factor that made Transformers super awesome. Except the modern engineering of the figures, Transformers are like dull now.
Localized name. Ramhorn is named 'Armhorn' in Japan. Around the same time there's Urusei Yatsura anime (Adapations of Manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi) being a big hit. one that 'Ramu' (Lum, or Lamu in other localized airings.) is female protagonist. so Takara and Toei Doga decided to localize Ramhorn's name. Transformers G1 Anime is aired on Fuji TV Network. same that aired Urusei Yatsura, and Galaxy Express 999.
I love how the "ending credits" include the prices of the toys lol
I dare Takara to remake this with Combiner Wars and Generations toys.
+Symos I would totally watch that!
I´ll buy it for a dollar!
Gridseeker Nice Robocop reference.

Time for another exciting game of... SPOT. THE. ENGRISH!
I can't find any captions.

Just remarkable

+ZeldaTheSwordsman True. But the OVA was still just as much fun to watch.

I liked this better than the Transformers films by Michael Bay.

If only G1 Metroplex was that much bigger than the combiner/gestalts. Hell, G1 Metroplex should've been as tall as Scorponok!
I wouldn't say as tall as Scorponok because Scorponok in the show was about the same size as Fortress Maximus.
It would have been interesting for Japanese kids to see the English opening animation at the end if they were used to the Japanese one
First Aid didn't feel like being an arm today.
Interesting... There's not much to this, but I've always wanted to see it.

I know every episode of Transformers is technically just an extended toy commercial, but this is ridiculous.
0:38 Teletraan 1 also uses Leijimeters too?
This video is the best. I watched scramble city 1,000 Times but it looks cool in toy version.🎬🌋🚚🇯🇵
Galvatron is Megatron
Back then Galvatron is supposed to be someone else (replacing Starscream specially since his original title was 'Castellan') and not Megatron reborn.
Damn! Even their commercials are better than ours! When it came to making G1 awesome, all we had was the movie, but they made the entire animated series & their commercials bad-ass!

13:03
7:28 - 8:11 what is the name of the music
Man, Japanese toy commercials are built different.
Wow, they actually list the prices. And people give the American G1 series shit about being a commerical.
Where was Omega Supreme? Or was he one of the ones Japan never got?
They didn't get him until the Encore line, when it turned out that in one of their acquisitions, Takara had bought out the subcontractor Toybox used to produce the toys that would become Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx.

Ramhorn's Japanese pronounciation to you.
Localized name. Ramhorn is named 'Armhorn' in Japan.
