This video explains what "affordances" are, how the concept has evolved, and describes an operational a model called the “mechanisms and conditions framework." The mechanisms and conditions framework (M&C) asks how technologies Request, Demand, Encourage, Discourage, Refuse, and Allow- for whom and under what circumstances?

This ties in with traditional communications. The comm theory handbook (Littlejohn, Foss, and Oetzel; 2018 & 2021) has a few theories with similar ideas. I will buy your book to investigate further.
