- Just a small tour around a school in Hostomel, used by Russian troops as barracks and artillery position. Hostomel, including the airfield, the base of the National Guard located nearby, as well as the school, were occupied by Russians for almost a month until the city was liberated by Ukrainian army.
P.S. On the second glance this trench which I thought was made for their BMD, turned out to be a Russian "field toilet". Or may be it was used for multiple purposes.

I´m from Finland so we share the same neighbour. I know exactly what you mean. 2 generations ago, we fought the same battle you do now. Every family has grandparents who was involved in the war, and the spirit lives on. It will be the same for you guys.

Yes, Finland's population at that time was some 4 M and we lost 100.000 young men in the battle against the Soviet Union (1939-44). But we maintained independence even if with "finnlandizierung" . Now Finland with 5.5 M people is finally ready to joint NATO. Thanks to Russia and Mr Putin.
We will welcome Sweden & Finland into NATO this year I hope .

Outside of all the damage the Russians have done with the war, I'm struck by how lovely and pastoral parts of Ukraine are. It reminds me a lot of where I live in Texas, and is definitely something worth fighting for. God willing this horrible war will end soon. Europe will be so much better with Ukraine as a fully integrated member!
Hopefully Ukraine wins so hunter can get a bigger paycheck from burisma. And not just him, there is a lot of us politicians who are willing to accept free money from corrupted Ukraine, all paid by us taxpayers

Thank you Operator Starsky. I am sad to say, based on what my late father said about his life in Ukraine before and during WW2 that I am not surprised about what you show us. The difference between then and now is that everyone has a cellphone and can show and share what they see. There were no cameras and footage of the Holodomor and WW2 in Ukraine, just the memories and nightmares of the survivors. The West never saw the suffering of the Ukrainians, but my father was an adult and survived. No, the West didn’t ever suffer a crazy, evil, desperate neighbor, who,like an arrogant and ugly suitor keeps knocking at a beautiful lady’s door, demanding that she marry him. When the lady says “No, l want to be free” the ugly suitor threatens to first rape the lady then kill her so that no one else can have her and so she will never be free again. I pray that the beautiful peaceful Lady that is Ukraine will be free and happy once again. Slava Ukraina (no Cyrillic keyboard). I will keep praying.

Sowjets were pretty strong in ukraine.
I wonder how many of the crimes for which german guilt was established at the nuremberg and following trials are based on sowjet crimes or didn`t happen at all. If i remember right one or both of the sowjet judges at nuremberg was also part of the moscow trials and born on the border to ukraine.
Just remember that german guilt for Katyn has been established in this trials an that people in germany still go to jail over this, even if they haven`t been born back then. If i`m informed right for the area of ukraine for example they used population numbers from before Holodomor in the nuremberg trials.
Some of the rules that were used at this trials:
International military tribunal charter
Article 19.
The Tribunal shall not be bound by technical rules of evidence. It shall adopt and apply to the greatest possible extent expeditious and nontechnical procedure, and shall admit any evidence which it deems to be of probative value.
Article 20.
The Tribunal may require to be informed of the nature of any evidence before it is entered so that it may rule upon the relevance thereof.
Article 21.
The Tribunal shall not require proof of facts of common knowledge but shall take judicial notice thereof. It shall also take judicial notice of official governmental documents and reports of the United Nations, including the acts and documents of the committees set up in the various allied countries for the investigation of war crimes, and of records and findings of military or other Tribunals of any of the United Nations.
A friend of ours had a son with Downs Syndrome, and his mother told us once "I never stress about it, I'm happy he was born to a mother and father who guarantee him the best life possible." Ukraine has not been blessed with this war, but their people will rise and guarantee the best life possible for their children. This, I am certain.

09:43 As a Croatian, I must say we have our neighbours from Serbia. Almost mirrored situation as I see today in Ukraine happened to my country 91 to 95. That's why Croats have strong bond with people from Ukraine and support them all the way. Alot Ukraine woman and children came to my country, city. Our people didnt forget and remember how we were refugees 30 year's ago and make from this sad situation the best that we can do for people came from Ukraine. In this sad situation its beautiful to see Ukrainian children are going in our's schools, play with our children like there's no language boundaries, like there is no war, life just continues. My city organizes public gatherings and social meetings for Ukraine people to fit in new surroundings. There is strong Ukrainian society club in my country, I even got friends from Ukraine been living in my country from early age, still talk Ukrainian and contact with relatives back in Ukraine. Been walking around my city, listening Ukrainian accent, beautiful people, simple and whats more full of pride for they'r country. Much love to Ukraine from Croatia, we support you all the way

As a teacher, this video hits hard. I know it's only property, and it doesn't compare to some of the other atrocities that have been committed by the russians.
But my colleagues and I, and the students we teach, take such pride in our school. We work so hard to make it a welcoming environment for the children. It would be devastating to see this kind of destruction.
Often school communities are like big families. It must be terrible to have them torn apart by war like this.
But once it is fixed up the kids will have a ball playing in the dirt during recess, then come back in school looking like little pigs. Children will adapt an overcome and be right back to learning, laughing, and playing as soon as the last shell drops. The adults are the ones that will be tortured by their memories.

Wassup Starsky, when I see things such as this it makes me hate Putin and the Russian military even more. But, I have never seen so many countries united for a common goal. Literally, almost every country in the world is pulling and praying for Ukraine. The countries that are able to are supplying weapons and aid. I think if it weren't for the threat of WWIII or nuclear war there wouldn't be enough ground to hold the troops that NATO, EU, and UN would send to clear the Russians from this country. I also think these countries would also not rest until Putin was dead or in prison and a regime change. I wonder how much longer these united countries will sit back and watch Putins atrocities. I think if Putin continues to threaten to use nuclear weapons against countries that help Ukraine these countries may begin to believe him. If these countries believe Russian will use nuclear war then I also think NATO and others will act first. I hope to see the united countries flood into Ukraine soon to help drive out the Russian army hopefully force a regime change in Russia.
I'm not sure where you are but the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, pretty clearly stated that the goal here is to "weaken Russia so it can never do this again". I wouldn't fuck with that guy and yeah I believe him. You don't get to that level in the military by being wrong.

I have been a Dutch professional army petty officer for 6 years, and in my civilian life I continued -apart from my business- as fully qualified shooting instructor. Several of my pupils became national and even international champions. I sport still two hours a day intensely. Now my QUESTION : as a my offer was rejected based on my age. I am indeed 73 years old but never ill, stronger in body and mind than many others and on a 2 km crosscountry run, I still outrun many people in their thirties or forties. I am financially completely independent indeed. and I can finance everything myself. Do you have more than enough instructors? (Although I’m now active in not specialized activities the Czech Republic such as the reception and transport of refugees and housing these women and children and finding the most suitable locations for them)
I am an admirer of your thorough and professional reporting and the sober way of explaining.
They make them tough in Holland...Mrs C ,s uncle served with the East Lancashire regiment alongside the American paratroopers at Nijmegen in WW2 ,sadly succumbed to his wounds RIP...

I think our politicians think that We would be the only country left, when all other scandinavian countries are in NATO. And Finland and Sweden has always helped each other, and We Have been on the same ”track”. And Now Finland will join, and Sweden will probably follow.

All good points here. If anything positive comes from this war it's the reminder of how fortunate we are in North America... so far. I'm a 67 year old Canadian🇨🇦 and I have never prayed for, thought about or followed a war so closely as this invasion of 🇺🇦 Ukraine. I know most Canadians feel the same way. I hope people can see that being asked to wear a mask for a few months does not mean you have lost your freedom. This is what true lose of freedom looks like.

Hi, You videos are very important and I thank you. I am not surprised but disgusted by the Russian soldiers behavior. not surprised because my father told me stories of them in WW2 . I am the daughter of a 17th Airborne Paratrooper. My father spoke Pólish as his first language, during the war he was asked by a higher ranking officer to translate to some Russian soldiers, to tell them to stop what they were doing, which was terrorizing some German women who were barracaded up in there house. The city might have been Essen. The Russian soldiers were told to stop and if they did not, well you know what would have happened. So they stopped. The women were grateful . So you see way back in WW2 there were Russian soldiers undisaplined and acting crazy.

Regarding the comments of the western people, as Slovakian I kind of do see where the discrepancy in understanding occurs. Slovakians, Polish, Ukrainians, we do share common understanding that Russia is mentally as society somewhere on the edge of 19th-20th century. So does that logic also make Ukrainian soldiers cowards too? There's more documented footage of them using schools are barracks, equipment storage and firing positions. Ukrainian soldiers posting pictures and videos of them and their entire company sheltering in schools using them as barracks.

I don't, I mean if your unit is dropped in enemy territory & for some reason you're confused, the natural thing to do is move forward, take whatever ground you can until your unit has the airfield. But he just dug in hoping someone with some knowledge would come along. If true, it blows my mind._*
Crazy seeing all of this, the contrast between normal life & war. The fact that the Russian soldiers played with toys but used the school as their base. Ratios side by side with munition.

As an Irishman, unfortunately, we did have such a neighbour. Luckily they mostly gave up on controlling us by the time the weapons got scary.

Just for your English Starsky - which is otherwise excellent. You did say this word for food unit “ration” as “ratio”. Just so you know, these words are different, but we still understand in the context.
“Ratio” means, one thing in comparison to another, in quantity.
Example: if every soldier has two enemy soldiers against which to fight, we say the ratio is 2 to 1, or expressed as 2:1.
I do not know if these two words have the same route or derivation, from Latin or German, but likely as a ration size would be determined by the ratio of food to people.
PS some parts of Ukraine remind me of parts of Australia, just much cooler climate and more green fields. The colours of your nature is softer and inviting. Here our natural colours are harsh and sunburnt, but the landscape can be similar.

I spent many years in Afghanistan. Russian land mines are still all over that country. I saw multiple children killed by these very old land mines. Reading the Kyiv Independence a few minutes ago they had an article about needing EOD specialist from other countries to come and help. Also stated that for every 1 day of war it will take 30 days to clear mines and munitions. Are the Ukrainians training locals to do this job since it will take thousands of workers to do this job and likely a few years?
Fantastic video, the observations are so elegant but the effects so devastating. In a better moment, perhaps a fantasy, I envision hordes of Russian volunteers coming and helping to clean this stuff up and remediate these sites in a gesture of friendship, humility and apology.

Not attacking each other for 'centuries' is a bit optimistic. It's quite recent that European countries stopped going to war on a regular basis. Countries like Britain and France were regularly at war for many centuries and genuinely hated each other. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples. It's only the last 70 years that we finally all learned we were better off co-operating than fighting, despite many differences.

I think that the initial battle for Hostomel Airport was the HUGE success for Ukraine! It decided the war! If Hostomel Airport was taken and secured, the Ruskies would have flown an entire airborne division and probably took the Kiev in a day or two. But by denying them the airport and wiping out the airborne assault the Ukrainians saved the Kiev and the Country. This battle will be taught at every military academy around the World for centuries to come!
Hopefully you guys make sure there's no landmines left behind in the fields where children will be playing in the future.

I tried explaining this to my conservative American friends (I too am a hard right American) who instantly decided they were pro Russia bc if the media was anti Russia, Russia must be in the right. This is an immoral deferral of thought, would one deny the sky is blue bc CNN said so? They would say that the Ukrainian army was committing atrocities with artillery in Donbass. I explained that all one needs to do is set up artillery, fire, re position, and then return once counter battery fire has caused casualties in order to film. Counter battery fire is a defensive action, and if the Russians choose to initiate the exchange by setting up in a residential area, THEY'RE the war criminals. Alas, terminally online partisan tribalists will screech "propaganda" while spouting narratives from Pravda, and will justify a blatantly immoral invasion precisely bc of their ignorance of Russian war crimes in the last 30 years, all with no standard of proof for their narratives other than contradicting the media, and an impossible standard of proof for anything pro Ukraine.
I think that the ranks of these poor confused people are thinning out every day. Notably, the Republicans on Capital Hill (most of whom are highly intelligent and moral people) have not bought into the Kremlin propaganda, and are supporting Ukraine vigorously. I believe it because I've heard it 50 years ago. When I was a young boy I was sitting on my german's grandfathers lap and listening to his war stories from WW2. As a soldier of the German Wehrmacht he was deployed to the Crimea peninsula during the time it was occupied by the Germans. On the retreat later on they came through towns where also the Russians have fought and he saw what the Russian army did to the local people. His telling was exactly what I see today on TV, RUclips and in your reports, @Operator Starsky.
On the retreat our grandfathers came through German Controlled Areas. We did enough atrocoties in the Ukraine ourselves.

Sowjets were pretty strong in ukraine.
I wonder how many of the crimes for which german guilt was established at the nuremberg and following trials are based on sowjet crimes or didn`t happen at all. If i remember right one or both of the sowjet judges at nuremberg was also part of the moscow trials and born on the border to ukraine.
Just remember that german guilt for Katyn has been established in this trials an that people in germany still go to jail over this, even if they haven`t been born back then. If i`m informed right for the area of ukraine for example they used population numbers from before Holodomor in the nuremberg trials.

I'm not sure if ukranians see school in a different way or not but I doubt they were really happy being at school, granted I live in America that has the worst rated schools in the wrold besides very underdeveloped countries.
