    It blows my mind how little we know about these products. We kind of just trust marketing, which is most often misleading. Very helpful video. Thank you.

    If you pinch a stasher bag it turns white....I don’t think the pinch test is as realizable as people think it is. Because I’ve seen the COA for stasher and they don’t add fillers...the white showing through doesn’t always come from fillers

    Thank you for a great presentation. My bags will be used strictly to freeze chicken in a various marinades.
    Now that I am aware of nano and micro plastic leaching into our bodies I decided to switch to silicone as glass isn't practical.
    I baked a couple of things in silicone and got this creepy feeling it may not be healthy so I stopped.

    Thank you. I bought a silicone utensil from china. Looks great but when I started using it for frying, it started to bubbles the oil. Which made me terrified of what a so called silicone by some vendor. Then I started searching info about the cause of this incident. Which hard to find until i found your video. Thank you. That scam bag really fooled me by saying it was safe. I doubt it bcoz of what had happened. I believed it was not safe at all... specially from china.

      Hi! To my knowledge and brief research, wherever a product is produced, they could apply for and be approved (or not approved!) by regulatory bodies in any country. So even if a product or material is produced in China but it is US FDA or European Commission approved, that means that product has passed the standards of the regulatory bodies you choose to trust.
      Personally for products that will be in contact with food I do try to look out for products that have passed the standards of stringent regulatory bodies. For example, Stasher bags' material have "passed all U.S. and Canadian food safety standards in addition to the most strict guidelines of all, the European Union food safety standard". So I think what regulatory standards the material has passed paints a more accurate picture of a product's safety than where it is made!

    i have a question that may be hard to answer but here it is: i'am trying to create a tool made from silicone which will be used in the mouth to quickly heal cuts or ulcers. I know people just swoosh saline water in the mouth then spit it out, but i found a medical grade safe micro-foam that can come into contact with human tissue (mouth) and saline (salt). It wont exceed regular human body temperature i'am sure (roughly 98 degrees). Basically i need something that won't leech anything within a temperature of 100 degrees and wont leech with contact to saline. I've read that once silicone cures fully AND in the correct setting (dry or wet for certain amount of time), that even if it had something harmful in it, that it can stilll be safe as long as its used in the correct format say. Any help or input would be appreciated.

    Judging by how many years silicone implants have been used I would think food grade silicone is safe.
    And judging by how well it holds up to high heats I think for cooking utensils it will be one of the safer synthetics. I don’t trust the plastics that are supposed safe they melt and west down so your for sure ingesting it in your food.
    I’ve used silicon spoons and spatulas for years now and they look like brand new haven’t broken down at all.

  • @valerievickland9865
    @valerievickland9865 Год назад +7

    SILICONE IS NOT ECOLOGICALLY SOUND NO MATTER HOW THEY TRY TO CONVINCE YOU OF THAT. Silicone is still a type of plasticy polymer so it's not even biodegradable. Creating it requires a massive use of energy to heat furnaces to rock-melting temperatures and notably it is not called silicon (the element) but called SILICONE - that refers to the addition of hydrocarbon molecules (just like plastic) so silicone is actually a hybrid plastic-like substance with some silicon in the mix. But it still takes up to 500 years to break down and will pollute the environment until then. Try using an alternative to silicone containers like glass, metal or fiber containers (like baskets, bamboo, or beeswax wraps) instead.

    • @noamrosenberg3447

      You just flat out lied. Silicone is in no way related to plastic. Although they are similar plastic is non organic and silicone is, meaning it has a form of it in nature. Stop lying and do research

    Thanks for the valuable information! While more study needs to be done on silicone baking ware as you mentioned (due to high temperature), I wonder if it’s safe to use silicone gadgets in microwave such as microwavable steamer? I actually don’t know how high the temperature can go in microwave in general and am unsure if the high temp in microwave is the same as in the regular oven when it comes to leaching chemicals?
