    No…. I saw two police here in the Gold Coast in Australia picking on kids and asking to search them… I thought they were being picked on unfairly as they were doing nothing apart from waiting for a train. Then , they started having a go at me. I put in a complaint against them and got them done.
    The kids didn’t know their rights, and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to be searched , let of all in public. Extremely dehumanising and degrading.

    Police should not have a right to do this.
    If police deem it absolutely necessary, then they should be taken to a hospital & medical staff should carry this out.

    Hearing the call about the WW2, reminded me of my Grandfather, died at 63, he had served from 1938 to 1946, but he never spoke to us about his service. Myself, I served for 22 years, I am a veteran of the Gulf War, Northern Ireland and Iraq War, recently I wanted to know what my Grandad did during the war and applied for his records and in doing so it reminded me of the time I had spent with him, his was a loving gentle man, intelligent, engineer by trade and worked in the ship yards on the Clyde, then I recognised the mannerisms I have and how he was suffering from PTSD and Survivors guilt from service. This recognition has made my memories of him more endearing, now knowing how draining it can be to hold it together and the strength it must of took, both of us being of the the "stiff upper lip" coping generation.

      @matt-crumb 22 дня назад

      @@ephre Having looked into this, it seems a big stretch to say they "often" cause suicidal thoughts, and seeing as I was already having them, what new phenomenon would they be creating? Sure, they do tell you that the first few weeks you can experience side effects as your body becomes accustomed to them - some nausea, headaches and sleep issues - but for my SSRI of Sertraline, them "often" causing suicidal thoughts just isn't my or most other people's experience with them.
      I've just had a read of the article "Do Antidepressants Increase the Risk of Suicide in Children and Adolescents?" from the AACAP website, so if it's the FDA warning that you are thinking about in terms of this supposed risk, I'd check this article out.
      Also, it was more my own risk than of my doctor - I read into SSRIs, specifically Sertraline, before consulting my GP that I wanted to know more if it would be the type of help for me, since I have previously had suicidal and depressive episodes and counselling was beneficial but felt temporary. I'm on a low dose, and the NHS states that it has "fewer unwanted side effects than older antidepressants".

    • @matt-crumb
      @matt-crumb 22 дня назад +2

      @@ephre I've had a look into this, it seems a big stretch that they "often" cause suicidal thoughts, what's your source for this? Sure, they state common side effects of nausea, headaches and sleep issues in the first few weeks, but in my and most others experience, you see improvements once your body gets used to them.
      Also, if I was already having those thought before being on SSRIs, how can they cause what's already happening? Do they create more? For how long? Does it improve over time?
      This "huge risk" taken by my GP was actually more on my part - I looked into SSRIs, learned more about a specific one, contacted my GP and a very low point, which they already have a record of my previous episodes, and asked if this would be the right thing for me, seeing as I had had counselling in the past which was beneficial but felt temporary. No one pressured me, I'm on a low dose of one that is detailed as having fewer side effects than older ones
      There's no hate btw, just wanting to understand your thoughts

      @LordLulu93 22 дня назад +3

      @@matt-crumb You are hitting the nail on the head & mirroring a similar situation I was in when I was on SSRIs.
      SSRIs kind of got a bad rap from being linked to individuals who committed 'mass casualty events' in the US & it became politically convenient to blame the drugs. I'm not saying they don't play a factor, but the ease of getting your hands on a firearm is a much bigger one.
      The drug from me lifted me off 'the floor' & when adding in counseling to address both the situation & the underlying issues helped me get to a better place. It's different for everyone so the treatments that work will be wide ranging, the biggest step is identifying there's a problem & doing the work to make that change.
      Thank you Matt for sharing, it's not easy & you're doing great!

    You have people saying "they just have mild anxiety, they don't need to be medicalised" but what they don't see, is when you are referred for mental health help on NHS, you often get met with correspondence that state "we are only able to help with mild to moderate anxiety and depression", so many people are told that their problems are too severe or too complex for the service.
    The people talking about it really should have personal experience of the system, it may guide them to actually improve it.

    This is a difficult situation but needs to be addressed. Of the searches which took place, at least 50% found illegal objects or substances. In my view that means the searches are justified, equally, they must be carried out in a legal manner to protect the innocent and ensure the guilty cannot wriggle out of charges.

    Just wondering how 27% equates to 4 times more, surely that figure (I had to listen 3 times to be certain of what I heard) is near to 1 in 4 not 4 times as many, meaning 3 times as many were not black.
    If we don't search under 18s that are suspected of something,where will that lead,more children being used by gangs to avoid confiscation of illegal substances,more children subscribing to gang culture and if I might remind you of recent events involving an under 18 year old and 3 dead young girls

    • @Code_Dee
      @Code_Dee 23 дня назад +5

      Problem is that being black is enough "suspicion" for most cops to warrant a search. It's not based on behavior it's based on their appearance, their race.

    • @andrewstevenson118
      @andrewstevenson118 23 дня назад +5

      Was it something to do with the proportion of the population versus the proportion of those searched? EDIT: Yeah, I think it's that. It depends on how they define "black" but say 27% of people searched were black. If they made up 9% of the population, then they have a "relative risk" of being searched of 3.0. On the converse, the 91% who aren't black, made up 73% searched they have a "relative risk" of 0.8. If you divide 3.0 by 0.8, you're heading on towards 4. I think that's where it comes from. (I don't have the exact figures, but I hope you see what I'm getting at.)

    • @LB-eb2wx
      @LB-eb2wx 23 дня назад +4

      Think the 27% is the number of searches out of all searches done are children. Then of that 27% who are all children - its 4 times more likely the child is black that is searched.

      @@andrewstevenson118 "95% are boys and 27% are black" percentage of any group can only be based on 100% regardless of the number in the group , surely 27 out of 100 is as pretty much 1 in 4.
