  • How would you edit a file on a remote device? Sure, you could download it, edit it and re-upload it, but that's too many steps! What if you could do all that, all in one place?

    Plugin admin: This should be bundled with newer versions of Notepad++ out of the box. If you can't find it, update Notepad++. You are strongly encouraged to take this route.
    Alternatively, if you want to download the NppFTP plugin directly, you may do so at its github page: github.com/ashkulz/NppFTP/rel...

    Look up moba xterm. It has a built in sftp app. This allow you to open a file remotely with any program and save the file to the remote host. So just by connecting via ssh it includes connecting as a sftp as well.

      Hello and thank you for your comment! This doesn't seem like Free, Open source software! Usually I prefer FOSS options where possible (especially for highlighting on the channel).

      @@NERDfirst I feel the same about software, moba home edition is free but not open source. Although I have purchased the pro version due to the number of rpi I have running. “3d printers, clock, and pi-hole.

      Of course, I'm not against paid software in any way (and moba seems to be a good one-stop for all things remote-related), just that when I spotlight FOSS, it can be of the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people =)

      Thank you very much! And appreciate your sharing. I currently only have one Raspberry Pi which I'm using for a project, but once that's over I'll likely be keeping it always-on and headless. So who knows, I might come back to this application =)

    If only there were a file manager that let you securely browse remote directories this way ... docs.kde.org/stable5/en/extragear-utils/krusader/remote-connections.html

      Hello and thank you for your comment! Definitely not claiming that this is the _only_ way to do things... Rather, just showing off something that worked well to streamline my workflow, is FOSS, and works on Windows =)

      Does the Windows file manager allow for plugins that do this kind of thing?

    • @NERDfirst
      @NERDfirst  3 года назад

      I've no idea! Never tried to look for something like that.
      I've looked specifically for something that integrates into a text editor, and handles uploads and downloads seamlessly in the background, and this plugin did the job flawlessly.

      Maybe you should look more into Linux? Learn about computing capabilities beyond those available in Microsoft Windows.

      I have actually been using Linux on and off for the past 8 years. Not an expert by any means, but I can say I'm familiar enough beyond the surface.
      But so far, for my own use cases, I've found no reason to use Linux as a daily driver. Everything I need to do can be done on Windows (and almost always with less effort). Not that I'm saying Linux isn't useful, but practically speaking, Windows has struck the perfect balance between ease of use and flexibility for me.
