The thing I, as a kindergarten teacher, love the most about Hermitcraft is that it is a bunch of responsible grown ups showing everyone that adults can play and be creative together and just enjoy playing pretend, building with blocks and getting excited for imaginary experiences. They laugh, prank each other, care for one another, cry over digital pets and enjoy creative builds made by others or as a joint effort. And most of it isnt even uploaded. Its obvious that they enjoy playing together, something rarely shown in sports or competitions or most workplaces. Kids growing up with Hermitcraft will keep playing and having fun with friends. And adults watching Hermitcraft will be more open to share joy in gaming and playing with their kids, as they see other adults not worry about coming across as being childish. I love the example this community sets. ❤

As someone with a progressive neurological condition, Scar holds an extra special place in my heart. The challenges I face are slightly different to scar in that I haven't had to endure long periods of hospitalisation, I am just forever dealing with new limitations that just slowly creep up and steal portions of my life, little by little. The way Scar is so open and accepting of his disability really helped me to mentally take ownership of my own. X

This is for Scar. I’m a nurse and I follow a lot of nurse creators on IG . One of them, a pediatric nurse, showed the GO Kart in hospital and how impressed they were by it and how much the kids they take care of love it. And it was brand new. I feel certain it was sponsored by the Hermitcraft charity livestream. The nurse didn’t mention Hermitcraft or anything-they didn’t really have any idea where the kart came from, they were just glad to have it and excited to be able to play games with their patients if their patients asked them to. You were right when you described the hospital like a prison. You’ve brought a light in the darkness to so many. Thank you so much.

    • @KingArthurDent
      @KingArthurDent Год назад +5

It's incredibly admirable that he's able to not let that get to him. Even compared to his disabilities, his mentality overpowers it and makes him one of the most "able-bodied" people, probably much more than he's aware of. A lot of us who are reasonably healthy physically are really not doing well mentally, and as he also said, that really kills creativity and joy, making us unable to accomplish what we want. And as someone who's been in and around a lot of mental issues for at least a decade and a half: people, please seek help, both professionally and with friends and (loving) family. As Scar so eloquently put it, down feelings are not forever feelings, even if depression lasts years. There will be ups, and also downs, but also ups, and those ups will be worth it.

Me too. I felt a fiery surge of protectiveness wash over me, like -- how DARE you, whoever you were in the past, saying things like that to ANY other human being, much less SCAR?! To the point where the person who it's directed to can call up an example that casually? How do they sleep at night? I just wanna talk about healthier ways to manage those kinds of impulses that make you feel like you have to take potshots at people like that, c'mere --
That said, I love Scar's perspective on it and how he manages to deflect it to roll off his back. Like "thank you for the five-star review of my performance!" I'm stealing that. X3 And also blessings to his mod team.

While im in the uk and gamers outreach don't work here at the time they did have a similar ish devices in hospitals which were tvs on a mobile rolling device and it helped me so much. Scars videos helped me through so much and when i learned about him working with gamers outreach i was so happy as similar devices kept me sane with me week long stints in hospital.

I believe, as humans, we all desire to do something or be something that will carry on after our lives. This could mean raising children, writing a book, creating a foundation, etc. What you all have been able to do as content creators have made lasting impacts on so many lives. I’m one of those individuals who have been impacted by Hermitcraft and the Hermits (pulled me out of a dark time while deployed). Others laughed when I said Minecraft videos helped me to stay sane, but it’s the truth.
Thank you for all you do and keep up the amazing work! Even if you quit tomorrow, know you’ve made a difference in this world and (at least for me) you’ll be remembered and respected.

Scar talking about owning his disablilty, not letting people attack things that he owns, and, the way I would sum it up, focusing on what you CAN do, not what you can't, all of that was really inspiring, even as someone without a disability. We all have our limitations and our things that get to us.

As a kid I was stuck in the hospital for a few nights dealing with appendicitis and getting my appendix removed. The children's hospital had TV's and video games, and my parents bought Space Jam and that was my first time watching that movie. There was another kid sharing the room with me and we tried to play Super Mario World together. I don't know what was going on with him, but he didn't have the energy to keep playing, but he did want to keep watching me play. The whole thing made my night, even though it got cut short because the IV's kept moving and alerting the nurses so my parents wanted to stop the games, and probably the other kid fell asleep. I would have kept playing the entire time if I could even though I was a little tired too.

Scar is such an inspiration to everyone - I love that "living life on Hard mode" and "those bad feelings aren't forever feelings" lines. He has probably changed more lives than he'll ever imagine. That in itself can feel like pressure, but his community would never want him to feel pressured... We just love him for his a-maz-ing personality! If a Hermitcraft or MineCon came to the Northeast, I'd drive from Maine to say thank you to all of you for the joy you bring!

I swear Scar is the nicest and most upbeat person I've ever seen. Just the overwhelming positivity in the face of his situation is incredibly inspiring. I've actually started to enjoy terraforming in minecraft since watching his videos cause he just makes it look like so much fun and I used to hate it. Numerous hermits have become a part of my RUclips watch lists and I'm grateful that I was recommended one of Grians videos cause that got me into minecraft and it snowballed from there. Grian, Scar, Mumbo, Tango and Impulse have become people I look forward to uploading videos

I've commented this once in a day in the life scar video, but...
I'm a nurse, for a little while there, I worked with children who lived in a car home because the level of daily critical care they needed. I met a young lady who was about to age out of the house and was maybe a junior in highschool.
I remember being so upset with staff before me and her family, because they treated her like she was still a little girl of maybe 11 years. Pushing Disney idols like Selena Gomez, discussing plans to transition her into an adult family care home.
This young woman had no mental delays or disabilities, and in fact was very creative and smart. One day we had some bad weather and I lived about an hour and a half away so I decided just to stay in the guest room. And while I was there I made a point to just sit and chat about her goals and plans. She lamented to me that no one would help her prepare for applying to colleges and she felt like they were trying to scare her away from it. She told me that she knows she can't afford x, y, and z because she was a ward of the state and she knew she wasn't capable of working.
When I tell you I was mad... That didn't even begin to explain half of what I felt. I introduced her to scar's DITL videos and told her there's always something you can do and in this day and she with the technology available to her, she can make a career out of almost anything. There were lots of jobs she could do from home. There were things she could do on her good days etc. She ended up going down a "laugh your RUclips career" rabbit hole on her phone, and by the time I finished my rotation there, she'd started making videos about her art and what life was like for her.
Scar was a major catalyst in pricing to her, that she could be more than the little box people put her in would let her be.

This may be the shortest podcast you’ve ever uploaded.
Scar has so many amazing stories. There are a lot of threads I’d love to pull at. For example, Scar had an offhand comment that he used to do data entry for work. I’d love to hear more about that kind of thing before he made enough money to support his parents who were supporting him and what it must have been like to take care of the family’s needs.
I recently bought a mic to start practicing public speaking and can relate to Scar’s 2011 voice. The fact he went from that to this is inspiring. I know that many youtubers (including you, Impulse!) had that humble start and now your voices are full when you speak on the mic. It’s a shocking transformation that I hope I can look forward to as well.
Really looking forward to part 2 of Scar’s interview!

I have spent many hours at the childrens hospital in seattle up by Scar when i was little. They had a brand new N64 system with mario and zelda. The amount of hours i spent playing those systems trying not to think about what my sister was going thru really helped me get thru some difficult family times. Scar is right on the money about how helpful it is for games to get you thru some hard times when your just waiting in a hospital with nothing to do but stress and worry.

Scar has been a huge HUGE inspiration to myself. I was a previously perfectly healthy late 20’s guy, then got hit with LONG COVID. Very Debilitating and caused me to be bed bound for a bit (which in turn lead me to Hermitcraft and finding all you lovely people!), but Scar immediately gave me more than hope, but a fresh perspective on my situation. Seeing him not only never giving up but putting his best foot forward and ALWAYS maintaining his infectious level of positivity (which I know is the hardest thing in the world) has help me tremendously getting through this life changing horror that I’ve found myself in. As they say in Rouge One “Rebellions are built on HOPE!” And Scar is a shinning beacon of hope for so many!

I know this is will get buried in the comments but I just wanted to say this. I don’t watch you guys often, so I had no idea Skizz that you have MS. But hearing that brought so much happiness to me to hear of a content creator with the same thing that I have. I’ve enjoyed watching Scar’s videos for years now, and seeing him push through his disability has helped me. Now, knowing that Skizz has MS just like I do, I feel like I can be successful too, if I just set my mind to it. My health is currently stable and I’m so blessed to have it be stable. I cried a few times in this episode. The whole discussion about inspiring others with physical disabilities comes to me at a time when I need to hear it. It is so, so valuable and so validating for me. Specifically when Scar said that people with disability live life on hard mode but that we can find our way through in uncoventional ways. What you do IS so inspiring, and it gives me hope and is sparking drive and motivation that I can find my new place in this world, even if I won't get to do the phsyical career I had dedicated myself to.
I found Scar (and Hermitcraft in general- thanks Etho!) when my fatigue and illness started to hit the hardest and I lost my beloved job as a result. Thank you so much for what y'all do, this podcast, the videos, and all the work and effort you put into your content.
