This is exactly it. I think it's to do with the situation too, like how the viewer/captain is quite vulnerable in that moment. The tone and uncharacteristic coldness just does... something, if that makes sense.
it's also the way he forcefully grabs your hand, contrasting with the scene in part one where _you_ grab his hand to save his life. it's the _✨cinematic parallels✨_
From what I've gathered, there's two ways to take this scene. The first is you see this as a moment of superb acting on Mark's part. He's been the comic relief the entire journey, and here at the end he presents himself as someone to be taken seriously. The second is "ooooh Daddy Mark, talk don't to me". Both sides recognize this as an absolute fantastic scene. That's the power of Markiplier.
I don't see how people consider it sexual, but then again, I rarely ever simp for anyone, not even for Mark. To me, it's about gut-wrenching betrayal. It's the moment that you realize Engineer Mark, the only one who has trusted you and believed in you and followed you this entire time, someone who considered you a trusted friend, now he has lost that faith. You are no longer his Captain, you are no longer his friend, you are now the Villain. For that moment, in his eyes, you are a Failure. And boy howdy, does that HURT.
It's true. And Mark explained it pretty well: maybe "you", as a single person, are making good decisions and try your best to not destroy everything, but then, we have the collective "you", the "you" of parallel universes (the other players) who are making horrible decisions and killing millions of people in different universes. All of those universes were connected by the wormhole and the people "you" killed on each universe knows you killed them, like, they're alive and the memories of them dying remains as they are alive. And Mark is one of those people "you" killed, therefore, he losts complete trust on you as "you" killed him and everyone, millions of times.
But, now I get the "don't" moment and Mark does look "hot", but more than that, he looks mature and straightforward, traits that leaves people breathless. I get it, for me is spicey when you isolate that "don't" part, but when looking the whole scene, I feel exactly how I felt the first time...
The thing I find most ironic about this whole thing is Head Engineer Mark *created* that distrust himself. Lady blamed the captain cuz Head Engineer Mark told her we are the captain and are in charge of the ship. She takes that as us being responsible for the wormhole and that leads her into pursuing us. Then later when she attacks us before the universe collapses Head Engineer Mark starts to doubt us because she blames us for all these problems (Mark pointed this out during the stream as that being the point where the first seed of doubt in the captain started to manifest).
This ! Everyone's talking about how it was cool and hot shot but ugh I feel reprimanded af. Kinda how Mack treated us. Like some kid getting inthe way when all we wanted to do was help.
@@beelzezlover The funny thing is you *do* get it, you just don’t feel it. Its the reprimand that people find attractive about it. Is the coldness, dominance and the firmness of it. (For Mack it’s done mostly for comedic effect, which is why this ‘don’t’ hits different for people) As markiplier says himself “It’s about the *power*.” You feel the power shift in that moment, and to some people being made to feel small and powerless suddenly in that kind of way can be very attractive.
It's spicy because he isn't spicy. Because it shows that he's spent so damn long becoming stone cold and efficient. Because he's a previously goofy side character that is now wholly done with your shit and actually realizes his own confidence. And also the way he grabs down from up top, that's just.. whooo. I would have don'ted either way. Didn't need to but ya did, bud.
What people don't comment on that is what gets me, it's the finality of the statement. Finality in two days: it completely breaks the circular narrative the entire series is based on, and it also disrupts the more literary, dramatic flow of Markiplier's villain monologue. Right after his poetic statement of "we couldn't risk more mistakes, funny as it is after an eternity of second chances", he immediately snaps back with the laconic, seething "don't"- it's like don't even try. Playtime is over. This was actually your last chance.
this ENTIRE scene took me by surprise it was built up to SO fucking well. the apathetic and plainly-stated "Hi Captain." followed by being knocked in the head, and all of this coming from someone with whom we built a relationship with, a bond and trust between us. he's been following our lead, but now, he's switching it up. the roles are reversed. YOU drug HIM around, pushing HIM into rooms, letting HIM follow YOUR lead, and him willingly doing it for you because he trusts your judgment. and now, it's his turn. *Don't.* Don't even *try* fighting back, because it's not going to change anything. Once his mind is set on something, it's DONE. That's why this scene was so effective, especially because of the change of character coming from someone who was so bubbly and goofy before. It works so damn well.
I love that Mark totally didn't forsee the public reaction. How could you NOT see that coming?!? 😂 Gives me chills with a single word. Other people have put it much more eloquently but yeah, it's not a simping thing, it's the complete 180 degree turn in his character from silly to dead serious that makes it so gripping. And with the immediate followup that this character has been suffering for so long, building the very device that causes it - you end up completely empathising with and feeling a strong emotional connection to a character who up until this point had largely been the butt of all the series' jokes. That's why everyone is so hung up over the 'don't' moment. Cuz the one word demonstrates just how tired he is and how determined he is to end the infinite looping.
That "Don't." along with the rest of the scene in its entirety... Fuck it was intense. Mark was no longer the goofy, narcissistic punching bag, but a genuine threat. And after that, either when he goes back to try to fix it, or when he realizes just what he's done and how he's responsible, it's just so raw. So real. And when he breaks down after the "Hold on." ending, it just... Shit man, Mark's a better actor than I ever gave him credit for.
THAT'S why he tweeted that?? Because people have been lusting after it??? And not because it's a phenomenal scene and the ultimate heartbreaking proof that, after so so many years fruitlessly trying to remain positive and loyal, he's finally lost all faith in the only companion he's had for countless lifetimes???? 😟😞
ITS ABOUT THE POWER!! Genuinely though, it hit me for a split second and I was shocked. Though, it didn't stop me from feeling betrayed and tearing up milliseconds after.
I'm usually all for a good Darkiplier-esque moment too, but admittedly the inherent eroticism of this "Don't." completely went over my head and I was _so_ confused during stream 🤣 But now that it's pointed out I can't un-see it! I suppose if he doesn't entirely get why people like Dark so much (like he knows we adore Dark but doesn't seem to _entirely_ understand why), this moment would also read as tame to Mark.
this is one of my favorite scenes along with old man mark dying and lady “dying” which was really funny and sad but i like this scene alot not because of the sheer sexual prowe- but because of marks development, he was a dumb and naive yet trustworthy person thatd do anything for the captain, but now he seems smarter, calculated, as anyone would be after an infinity spent dying over and over and over again preparing for your return. still though, i thought he was evil for like 5 seconds until i understood what was going on lmao
I think a lot of the, um, appeal of the "don't" bit is both from the overall build-up to it from all the way in the beginning starting part 1 and of course Mark's delivery of the line. Up until now, younger Mark has been shown fully trusting in the captain and following your lead. Old Mark has been the only Mark that was against you up until now. The sudden switch from our loveably-loyal, goofy head engineer to a man dead serious and at the end of his rope draws you in as you realize that this is a man who is not messing around anymore. Mark's delivery of the line, of course, was great work, he did a fantastic job delivering the switch from the younger Mark we had been with throughout part 1 to a Mark that has had countless lifetimes to ruminate on the countless lives lost due to the choices of the captain. The "Don't" was a mixture of the perfect ingredients to create some damn good soup.
I think I have a theory on why that "don't" has such pleasent, female gaze, it's about power kind of energy. For the first time (to us), after literally 3 hours of acting like a stunt Dummy. Engineer Mark makes a decision without waiting for our approval. No soft "captain?" filled with doubt. That "don't" is acknowledging the Captain as a threat. That is the look of fear, bravery and a sprinkle of stupidity all at once. Only a person with that calculated Tenacity would have. A person filled with determination. As someone who couldn't even guide myself, boih, what a look that is.
Honestly, I liked the 'Hi Captain' more, just because of all the build up to it, but the 'don't' was also really good. I don't find it spicy or hot, I just find it really cool. Gives me chills every time.
Come on, Mark. That "Don't" is giving a dominant vibe. That is literally why a lot of people are simping for Darkiplier. But the fact that it is an actual Mark character, is why people are having these feelings.
Ok, in the context of the scene when watching it for the first time, it was just a sobering moment where Mark's character had lost it and scared me because he had become the beginning of the paradox. Out of context, not being wrapped up in the story, it's hot. It's the voice with the action
i love how confused Mark is and Amy has the whole "Oh no i get it. I think we all felt the same way on set" i mean i didnt feel anything for it other them really admiring the acting but i get why a lot of other people felt something for it. i mean im totally Ace so thats my reasoning. it was great acting though. i gotta give him that. a lot of people may have thought it was hot, others might not feel the same way but i think we can all agree it was great acting.
@@Redneck_Hero I wasn't on set. Amy said people on set felt something. I honestly don't know how to explain it other than what Amy said which is its "spicy"
I don't (haha) understand how it is either. Don't get me wrong, I am the same as you I really admired the acting but I will admit the voice and tone is really cool to me personally.
I understand the spiciness, however, I dont tend to feel emotions like that towards anyone and especially not people I look up to. I would consider it disrespectful if I were to feel...spicy? Towards them? I dont really know how to put it. Oh yeah, I'm ace too
Honestly the stare matpat gave when you try to prevent the fire was more dominating... At this point mark is tired and he's like fed up so I get why he's like "don't, stop just stop, I got it from here, don't fucking do it"
This. Matpat is a great actor too. He's absolutely played some dominating characters before. But as Mack we didn't see as much of a shift. I'll need to rewatch that part to see if I agree that Matpat was more dominating with his stare.
I love the "Don't." It feels so menacing and gentle at the same time. The way he delivers "Another thing I never thought I'd say again" afterward is so good too.
I've been so glad to find out this is a collective reaction we're all having because I saw it for the first time and I absolutely repeated those five seconds a couple of times
I think the "Don't" moment is both "hot" to some people cause we rarely see serious Mark in action while it's also kind of "sad and upsetting" to others because the one guy who trusted us the most and who's always seem so happy, fun loving, childish, gentle, trusting now see us as the villain. You can see how over time he started questioning us and telling himself " The captait wouldn't do that! Would you...?" And now he's not being so playful with us nor trusting us. I think we were trying to either tell him or grab the crystal but he grabbed our hand both firmly and gently and told us to stop. He's like a disappointed feather telling their son and/or daughter that "you messed up big time so I'm the one who has to clean up YOUR mess." He even told us...I don't remember the exact words and I'm too lazy to go back and look but he said something along the lines of "I don't know if you're evil or just stupid!" Which probably hurt a lot of people's feelings and made some of us "Let Go" while others "Held On". So to sum it up I think the "Don't" hurt some people because the Captain and Mark were such good buddies and to see him so angry and disappointed at his best bud really was heartbreaking. For the thirsty ones it was hot to see a moment with Mark being so damn series. Either way, I see both sides and I felt both sides...one more than the other cause my heart literally broke when he did that. But the second time I saw it I was like "that was kind of hot tho". XD
I don't know man. It's like. The power and seriousness behind the word along with the eye contact makes me want to do what he says to make up for what I've done. It gives me chills
I didn’t know people were talking about this, but I certainly reacted to it. The switch in Mark’s tone was both a surprise and a really well written character moment. You had already seen old man Mark and had many conversations with him about regrets and betrayal so it was clear that at some point Mark gives up on you, but old man Mark was much more forgiving and comedic even as he attempted to “sabotage” you, as he has made peace with the past and doesn’t seem to hold any resentment towards you. Younger Mark however was blindly loyal even in the face of forces beyond your understanding. He always waits for your call and defends you without question, even when you’re called to answer for potentially destroying the universe. You see the after and the before, and your first glimpse into the middle is the timeline in which you don’t wake up and Mark is left alone on the ship, when he sees the crystal in your hand. For once he questions you. “Were they right about you? We trusted you!” When we reach the scene where he knocks you out and takes the crystal, you completely understand why he would feel resentful and mistrusting of you, because you’ve seen every other piece of the story. Even if all along he was the one who caused the paradox, you had put him and others in danger countless times trying to resolve it and he was basically trapped in an endless loop trying to do what he thought was the right thing. Mark isn’t just breaking out of the naive and innocent image you were introduced to in part one, he has stopped trusting you, and you finally understand WHY. He died trusting you, he died defending you, and when he realized perhaps they were right about you, he died trying to stop you, again and again and again. “Don’t” is extremely powerful from a storytelling standpoint because while this is the first time Mark has gone against your orders, you can feel the motivation. Up until now he has practically begged you to tell him what the right thing to do is even though he remembers the times your decision has lead to both of your deaths. But he doesn’t trust that you know what the right thing is anymore, YOU did this. You broke time. He isn’t going to let you mess things up anymore.
Wait WHAT. I never noticed this before, probs because I’m so into the story. It just sounded intimidating to me. I guess it’s because Mark usually plays a goofy character, but all of a sudden, the story demands absolute seriousness.
I love it, I love the whole scene, how Mark was an idiotic reckless dunce the whole story but then noticed the mess him and the captain made, he spent forever trying to fix it in this one room. Once he meets the captain again, he makes sure he doesn't get away. His assertion, seriousness and the somewhat booming voice saying "don't" makes you realize how serious he is and that he's finally going to fix it all without you intervening (well he does depending on if you let him go or not) but regardless, it feels so cool and relieving that the chaos finally is being noticed and solved by one of it's causes
Tbh I didn’t see anything “spicy” about the “Don’t.” Until Amy pointed it out. But I still don’t get it. The thing I liked about it is that Mark went from being a goofy dork to being serious and badass in just that one line.
Okay. So so many people say that's hot. I don't really get it... But okay. Also HOW DO YOU MAKE CLIPS SO FAST? it was like 10 minutes when that was live. Oh my lord (Edit. Thanks for the likes! 🏳🌈)
I dunno, the whole 'Mark just before he fucks everything up' scene in the warpcore room along with his realization after you stop him is perhaps the greatest acting I've seen from Mark. He just carries the serious and broken tones so well through those scenes. 10/10. Like, that 'Don't' was so assertive and... well, as Amy said, "it's a little spicy, I don't know..."
I honestly just thought it was a really cool line when I first heard it, like some villain speech at the end of a game or movie. I can’t really see what people get from this. (I know it’s about it sounding ‘spicy’, I personally just don’t see it)
I just wanna note that I’m liking comments on both sides of the don’t argument because I see both opinions. I think we can all agree just D O N ‘ T

E
"A little spicy, I don't know.." That sums it up in a nutshell.
Not Mark saying “Don’t” multiple times on livestream after the disapproval 💀
I WAS LITERALLY LAUGHING THE ENTIRE TIME THEY DID THAT THEY WERE JUDGING SO HARD
Oh NOW I GET THE FACES THEY'RE MAKING
(For Mack it’s done mostly for comedic effect, which is why this ‘don’t’ hits different for people)
As markiplier says himself “It’s about the *power*.” You feel the power shift in that moment, and to some people being made to feel small and powerless suddenly in that kind of way can be very attractive.

Glad they acknowledged this during the stream because I was just as confused as Mark with the reaction to that line and subsequent tweet.
what tweet?
THAT'S what that was about!?
OH SO THATS WHAT THAT TWEET WAS ABOUT
this ENTIRE scene took me by surprise it was built up to SO fucking well. the apathetic and plainly-stated "Hi Captain." followed by being knocked in the head, and all of this coming from someone with whom we built a relationship with, a bond and trust between us.
he's been following our lead, but now, he's switching it up. the roles are reversed.
My take is that it's the same as Mark's reaction the Lady Dimitriscu. The power 😁
“…..I wanna watch it”.
Learning things about Amy today.
But the way Mark keeps saying "Don't" after Amy explains and you can hear her giggling off camera 😂😂😂 I can't help it they're so cute
Did anyone else get the heebees when Mark pulled the thing out of his palm 🤣
Listen.
I didn't like being called out
But i felt things there.
There is no way IN HELL this man firmly grabbed the Captain's wrist, went "Mm... yeah" and didn't know what he was doing
I love that Amy is with us on this one.😆
THAT'S why he tweeted that?? Because people have been lusting after it??? And not because it's a phenomenal scene and the ultimate heartbreaking proof that, after so so many years fruitlessly trying to remain positive and loyal, he's finally lost all faith in the only companion he's had for countless lifetimes???? 😟😞
Ikr?? It's an amazing scene, the betrayal in Mark's eyes. You could see he was hurt. HOW ARE PEOPLE LUSTING OVER THIS??

Amy's facial expression sums it up perfectly.
the thing is, for me, it's not something i see every day, mark being gruff and speaking with that cold, serious voice that says "don't"
Mark and Amy pulling a "LIVE Slug Reaction" on the viewers
STOP 💀💀💀
I love the little "most replayed" hovering right over 1:05 lmao
There is NO WAY HE DIDNT KNOW THAT WE WOULD HAVE THIS REACTION
I truly don't get it m8

Honestly, I liked the 'Hi Captain' more, just because of all the build up to it, but the 'don't' was also really good. I don't find it spicy or hot, I just find it really cool. Gives me chills every time.
Come on, Mark. That "Don't" is giving a dominant vibe. That is literally why a lot of people are simping for Darkiplier. But the fact that it is an actual Mark character, is why people are having these feelings.
EXACTLY
You were on the set? Also I'm confused too. What's the big deal with "don't"?
@@Redneck_Hero I wasn't on set. Amy said people on set felt something. I honestly don't know how to explain it other than what Amy said which is its "spicy"
@@sortamaddog right 🤦♂️
I don't (haha) understand how it is either.
Oh yeah, I'm ace too
It actually made me feel fear for a moment because of how serious he made it feel with that one word.
I love that Amy also sees it
Also, Mark of all people should know it's just about the POWER
I just love these little snipits of Mark and Amy. 🥰🖤
This "don't" moment is precisely why I am so hyped about the movie. I cannot wait to see him act in a more serious toned production!
Me watching this for the first time: *calm*
Mark: “Don’t”
Me: “gaspo. I dear lord-“
I WAS DYING AT THE ITS A LITTLE SPICY
Honestly I had no idea this was even talked about. I didn’t notice. It was just him being assertive, but rewatching it a couple times..I get it. HAHA
"It's a lil spicy" SEE?? AMY UNDERSTANDS!!!!
It’s just oddly serious for Mark when he said “Don’t” that’s the only reason I laughed
It's the authoritative moment with the calm and collected "don't" that really puts the cherry on top 😂
iIT'S ABOUT POWER-
I didn’t know people were talking about this, but I certainly reacted to it.
We trusted you!”
When we reach the scene where he knocks you out and takes the crystal, you completely understand why he would feel resentful and mistrusting of you, because you’ve seen every other piece of the story.
That scene made me feel so many emotions. I really enjoyed it personally.

I liked the "don't" because it set the scene a bit. This was a changed Mark, a more serious Mark. One that ain't gonna take any of your bull crap.
