I too have several ensigns including different versions of the Autorange. They take some handling with all the levers and adjustments and the squinty viewfinder/rangefinder windows but they are certainly capable of lovely big negatives. I use Fomapan for all the red window cameras because the bold numbering on the backing paper is easier to see. It was probably the handling difficulty that meant some of these cameras were left at home, had little use, and have come down to us to enjoy. Sorry to see your table suffer. Treat yourself to a self healing cutting mat to demonstrate on, which will preserve the table and be brilliant for cutting light seal foam with sharp blades. I have been researching Houghton and Butcher and it's history is complicated to say the least.
